Objective To investigate and analyze the relative factors in elderly men with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)complicated with osteoporosis(OP),thus to provide guidance for prevention of OP complicated with T2DM in elderly men.Methods Dual X -ray absorptiometry determination of bone mineral density (BMD)of 67 cases of elderly men with diabetes,men were divided into OP group (n =32),NOP group (n =35).Then,we compared differences in body mass index(BMI),diabetes duration,fasting plasma glucose (FPG),glycosylated hemo-globin(HbA1c),patients'age,fasting insulin(FINS),insulin sensitivity index(ISI),quantitative of urinary albumin (ALb),quantitative of urinary protein in 24 hours and alkaliphosphatase level(ALP),low density lipoprotein choles-terin(LDL -C),triglyceride(TG),and made correlation analysis.Results Compared with those in NOP group,pa-tients in OP group had older age,longer disease course,smaller baric index,lower BMD,higher ALP,lower FINS,low-er ISI,higher HbA1c,higher quantitative of urinary protein in 24 hours and urinary albumin,higher LDL -C,which were significantly different (P <0.05);BMD of elderly men with T2DM was negatively correlated to patients'age, disease course,HbA1c,quantitative of urinary protein in 24 hours,ALb,ALP and LDL -C,but positively correlated to BMI,FINS and ISI.Conclusion Many factors,such as elderly,low body weight,long duration of the disease,high level of blood sugar,insulin dysfunction,low insulin sensitivity,high level of blood suger,insulin dysfunction,low insulin sensitivity,high serum alkalinephosphatase,high LDL -C and diabetic nephropathy,contribute to osteoporosis in elderly men with T2DM.

AIM: To study the curative effect for patients with age related cataract and shallow anterior chamber after phacoemulsification.METHODS: Totally 38 patients (38 eyes) with age related cataract and shallow anterior chamber were selected and divided into two groups according to the depth of the anterior chamber, as mild shallow anterior chamber group (2-2.5mm) 23 eyes, high risk shallow anterior chamber group (<2.0mm) 15 eyes.Thirty-eight patients (38 eyes) with age related cataract with normal anterior chamber were as control group at the same period.All the patients received the operations by the same doctor and were followed up for 3mo.The observed items included visual acuity before and after operations, intraocular pressure, anterior chamber depth, corneal endothelial cell density and complications.RESULTS: There were no significant difference on visual acuity, intraocular pressure and corneal endothelial cell density between the two groups before operations (P>0.05).The visual acuity improved significantly after operation in both groups (P<0.05).Intraocular pressure after operation decreased significantly in both groups (P<0.05).Anterior chamber depth increased significantly after operation in both groups (P<0.05).Corneal endothelial cell density decreased significantly in both groups (P<0.05).There were no significant difference on anterior chamber depth, intraocular pressure and corneal endothelial cell density between the two groups at different time point after operations (P>0.05).Posterior capsular rupture occurred in shallow anterior chamber group in 1 eye, suspensory ligament rupture in 1 eye.Posterior capsular rupture and suspensory ligament rupture occurred none in normal anterior chamber group.Postoperative corneal edema occurred in 10 eyes (26%) in shallow anterior chamber group, which occurred in 3 eyes (8%) in normal anterior chamber group.The difference on the incidence was significant (P <0.05).CONCLUSION: Phacoemulsification should be taken timely for patients with age related cataract and shallow anterior chamber.The postoperative visual acuity can be improved and the anterior chamber depth can increase.The operation is safe and effective for those patients.

Objective To build a normal value of serum sex hormone in the healthy children in favour of the diagnosis of children precocious puberty and the evaluation of the growth of the children.Method Serum of 462 healthy children(aged from 1 month to 14 years;205 females,257 males)was collected,and the level of testosterone(T) and 17-estradiol(E2).Results There were no significant deviation in the levels of E2 of deferent genders between 1-12 months,but the level of T in boys and girls were obviously different.The puberty of boys was la-ter than girls.There was no significant deviation in the level of E2 of the boys in different periods,but the levels of T in boys at different ages were obviously different.Conclusions With the improvement the detection methods,the normal values of the serum sex hormone in healthy children have been changing.It is helpful for diagnosis of children precocious puberty by rebuilding normal values of T and E2 .

Vascular dementia,an acquired,persistent syndrome of intelligent disorder,mainly caused by cerebrovascular disease is one of the main types of senile dementia.Its pathogenesis remains unclear.Brain-derived neurotrophic factor sustains multiple neuronic survival,development, differentiation,and repair following injury.It also induces and maintains the long-term potentiation of hippocampus and cortex,and changes the morphologic plasticity of hippocampal neuron by regulating hippocanoal synaptic transmission and synaptic plasticity.It participates in the processes of hippocampus-dependent learning and memory,and it may play an important role in the onset and development of vascular dementia.

Objective To investigate the effect of telephone follow-up on peripherally inserted central cathter(PICC) maintenance.Methods Two hundred and eighty-nine patients with PICC in our hospital from January to December 2010 served as the control group,given conventional health education on intubation,another 305 patients with PICC from January to December 2011 were set as the observation group,where telephone call follow-up was done on the basis of conventional health education on intubation. The two groups were compared in terms of timely catheter maintenance,catheter-related complications,accidental extubation and satisfaction.Result The observation group was significantly better than the control group in terms of timely catheter maintenance, catheter-related complications,accidental extubation and satisfaction (allP<0.05).Conclusion Telephone follow-up helps to improve patients compliance with PICC catheter maintenance,effectively control the complications and improve the quality of life and satisfaction degree.

Purpose To investigate the effects of intervention with Tanakan on anterior ocular segment in diabetic retinopathy (DR) after retinal photocoagulation. Methods Prospective random controlled study was performed on 72 patients (72 eyes) with ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM),by obtaining and quantitatively analyzing the changes of anterior ocular segment including anterior chamber, anterior chamber angle, ciliary body and choroids before and the 3rd day and the 7th day after retinal photocoagulation. Objective To analyse the effective rate and adverse effect of only levetiracetam (LEV) versus LEV plus other drugs in the treatment of middle and old aged patients with partial seizures (PS) and secondary generalized tonic-clonic seizure (SGTCS).Methods The self-control study was used and 59 elderly patients with PS and SGTCS were treated with LEV single or plus drug (therapeutic dose was 1000-2000 mg/d,bid).The effective rate and the side effects of LEV were observed and compared between LEV single and plus drug or between the patients with only epilepsy versus epilepsy plus other diseases,respectively.Results The effective ratios at the end of 3,6,9and 12 months after LEV treatment were 76.2％,70.6％,64.3％ and 66.7％,respectively and there were no significant difference among above time points (x2=1.911,P＞0.05).A chi-square test showed that the differences in effective ratios were not statistically significant (P＞ 0.05) between single and combination of drugs (x2 =1.437) and between two groups of patients at the end of 12 months.Clinical effect of LEV showed no remarkable difference between different types of epilepsy at the end of 6 months (x2 =1.315,P＞0.05)and 12 months(x2 =2.700,P＞0.05).The control ratio of epileptic attack was higher in single LEV than in combination drugs (x2 =10.83,P＜0.05).The total side effects were 13.6％,including somnolence,weakness,anorexia,headache,irritability and forgetfulness.Conclusions The curative effects of levetiracetam single or in combination are definite,stable and continuous for PS and SGTCS,especially in combination with other diseases.
