1. Review of Rhubarbs: Chemistry and Pharmacology
Chinese Herbal Medicines 2014;5(1):9-32
Rhubarb is a perennial herb belonging to the genus Rheum L. (Polygonaceae). Rhei Radix et Rhizoma (rhubarb roots and rhizomes) is one of the most popular Chinese materia medica and has been widely used for strong laxative function. About 200 compounds with six different types of skeletons (anthraquinone, anthrone, stilbene, flavonoids, acylglucoside, and pyrone) have so far been isolated from eighteen species of the genus Rheum L. These constituents showed extensive pharmacological activities including cathartic, diuretic, anticancer, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic effects, as well as toxicological effects. Chemical fingerprint, LC-MS, and other analytical techniques have been used for the quality control of rhubarb. This comprehensive review summarizes the researches into the isolation, pharmacological activities, and phytochemical analysis reported since investigations began in the late 1940s. In addition, pharmacokinetic studies and clinical application of rhubarb are also discussed in present paper. © 2013 Tianjin Press of Chinese Herbal Medicines.

Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 1994;0(04):-
Objective To assess the efficacy of ropivacaine in combination with different doses of sufentanil for epidural anesthesia in patients undergoing hysterectomy. Methods Eighty ASA Ⅰ or Ⅱ patients aged 30-55 yrs weighing 40-70 kg undergoing elective hysterectomy were randomly divided into 4 groups ( n = 20 each) : ropivacaine group (R) and 3 ropivacaine-sufentanil groups (R-S1-3). The patients were unpremedicated. ECG, BP, HR and SpO2 were monitored during ansthesia. Each patient received an epidural catheter placed at L2,3 interspace. After correct placement of epidural catheter was confirmed 0.75% ropivacaine 13 ml and normal saline (NS) 2 ml were given through epidural catheter in group R whereas in the 3 R-S groups 0.75% ropivacaine 13 ml and sufentanil 10 (R-S1), 20 (R-S2) or 30 (R-S3) ?g in NS 2 ml were injected into epidural space. BP, HR and SpO2 were recorded every 3 min. The onset time, upper spread and duration of sensory block; onset and duration of motor block (Bromage scale); degree of abdominal muscle relaxation; level of sedation (OAA/S scale); anesthetic efficacy and side-effects were recorded. The dose-response curve constructed by probit regression analysis was established to calculate ED50 and ED95. Results The onset time, the time needed to reach the highest sensory level were significantly shorter and the duration of sensory block was significantly longer in the 3 R-S groups than in R group ( P

By exploring the different components of the lysis buffer and optimize the 2-DE conditions, established the best proteomics technical system for Populus euphratica's heteromorphic leaves, while take the heteromorphic leaves in the same blanche as the test materials to find differences between the protein expressions of the leaves. It showed that the lysis solution which containing 2mmol/L thiourea,7mmol/L urea,2% CHAPS,60mmol/L DTT and 0.2% IPG buffer could dissolve the protein better.Through tandem mass spectrum, the results show that heteromorphic leaves are different in photosynthesis and respiration. This research offered valuable informations for understanding the molecular mechanism during leaves development and elucidating the mechanism of the eco-adaptability of Populus euphratica.
5. A new chain-like cembranoid diterpene from leaves of Nicotiana tabacum
Chinese Traditional and Herbal Drugs 2015;46(14):2040-2044
Objective: To study the cembranoid diterpenes from the leaves of Nicotiana tabacum. Methods: The cembranoid diterpenes were isolated and purified by silica gel and preparative HPLC, and their structures were elucidated on the basis of their physicochemistry properties and spectral data. Results: Five cembranoid diterpenes were obtained from the ethanol extract of the leaves of N. tabacum and identified as (1S,2E,4R,6R,7E)-4,6,11-trihydroxy-1-isopropyl-4,8-dimethylpentadeca-2,7-dien-12-one (1), (1S,2E,4R,6R,7E,11E)-2,7,11-cembradiene-4,6-diol (2), (1S,2E,4S,6R,7E,11E)-2,7,11-cembradiene-4,6-diol (3), (1S,2E,4R,6R,7E, 11S)-2,7,12 (20)-cembratriene-4,6,11-triol (4), and (1S,2E,4S,6R,7E,11S)-2,7,12(20)-cembratriene-4,6,11-triol (5). Conclusion: Compound 1 is a new chain-like cembranoid diterpene named nicotiaditerpene A.

Electronic case report forms (eCRFs) instead of the traditional paper case report forms (pCRFs) are increasingly used by investigators and sponsors of clinical research. We include a total of 14 phase III studies (8 pCRF, 6 eCRF) to compare paper and electronic data documentation both quantitatively and qualitatively in clinical studies. The result suggests that adaptions of electronic data capture (EDC) in clinical trials have the advantages in optimization of data capture process, improvement of data quality and earlier clinical decision compared to paper-based methods. Furthermore, the successful implementation of EDC requires accouplements with corresponding data management processes and reallocation of resources.

Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica 2015;50(11):1456-1460
Due to a great amount of data in clinical trials, the data cleansing needs to adopt a variety of measures, including the latest developed visual check approach. According to the different types of clinical data and the different stages in the course of clinical data management, this study reviews 8 types of visual graphics that show the relevance and trend among the data. The series of graphics can rapidly detect abnormal data, monitor clinical research in real-time, make the data management process much easier and improve the clinical trial efficiency and data quality.

Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica 2015;50(11):1380-1387
Validation is a documented process that provides a high degree of assurance. The computer system does exactly and consistently what it is designed to do in a controlled manner throughout the life. The validation process begins with the system proposal/requirements definition, and continues application and maintenance until system retirement and retention of the e-records based on regulatory rules. The objective to do so is to clearly specify that each application of information technology fulfills its purpose. The computer system validation (CSV) is essential in clinical studies according to the GCP standard, meeting product's pre-determined attributes of the specifications, quality, safety and traceability. This paper describes how to perform the validation process and determine relevant stakeholders within an organization in the light of validation SOPs. Although a specific accountability in the implementation of the validation process might be outsourced, the ultimate responsibility of the CSV remains on the shoulder of the business process owner-sponsor. In order to show that the compliance of the system validation has been properly attained, it is essential to set up comprehensive validation procedures and maintain adequate documentations as well as training records. Quality of the system validation should be controlled using both QC and QA means.
