Objective Percheron artery is an uncommon anatomic variant. Percheron artery infarction with unilateral embryonic posterior cerebral artery ( PCA ) was rarely reported. The aim of this study was to characterize the clinical and imaging patterns of Percheron artery infarction with the unilateral embryonic PCA for early diagnosis and treatment.MethodsClinical and imaging data of 2 patients with Percheron artery infarction were reviewed retrospectively.ResultsTwo patients presented acute coma and one had paroxysmal blurred before coma.On neurological examinations, one patient had vertical gaze palsy besides two were unconsciousness. MRI showed symmetrical high signal intensity on diffusion weighed imaging (DWI)in bilateral paramedian thalami in two patients and a distinct pattern of V-shaped hyperintensity on DWI andFLAIR was present on the midbrain in one patient. Digital subtraction angiography and magnetic resonance angiography demonstrated unilateral embryonic PCA in two patients.ConclusionsThe classical clinical symptoms, symmetrical high signal in bilateral paramedian thalami and V-shaped sign in midbrain on DWI can improve recognition, evaluation and management of Percheron artery infarction. The unilateral embryonic PCA may be underlying risk factor of Percheron artery infarction.

Objective To detect DNA damage of peripheral blood lymphocytes in patients and family members of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD),and to study the effect of irradiation on genomic stability of lymphocytes. Methods Before and after 0.5 Gy radiation dose,single-cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE) was employed to analyze DNA damage of lymphocytes in 10 ADPKD patients (group A),3 members without clinical symptoms of a ADPKD family (group B) and 20 healthy control people (group C).The damage was estimated based on the content of DNA in tail (TDNA%) with comet analysis software (CASP). Results Both before and after irradiation, the TDNA% (8.85%±0.14%,14.84%±0.77%) and the value-added (6.00%±0.77%) of TDNA% of group A were significantly higher than those of group C (7.50%±0.37%,12.46%±0.26%,4.96%±0.44%) respectively. There were no significant differences between group B and group C or group A and group B.While 1 person in group B had higher TDNA% as compared to group C both before and after irradiation. Conclusions The lymphocytes of ADPKD patients are more sensitive to ionizing radiation as compared to healthy people. The genomic instability in ADPKD patients or member of ADPKD family may trigger cystic formation in multi-organs when exposing to environmental agents. SCGE may provide a new approach to elucidate the pathogenesis and prognosis of ADPKD.

OBJCETIVETo investigate the method of separation of culture of bone microvascular endothelial cells (BMECs) of human femoral head in vitro.
METHODSFrom October 2013 to January 2014,15 femoral heads without pathologic change from patients resected during hip replacement were selected involving 2 males and 13 females with a mean age of 71.2 years old ranging from 38 to 92. Cancellous bone in femoral head was bited into broken bone grain and transfered into medium in aseptic contidion. Cells were isolated by the methods of enzymic digestion and density gradient centrifugation, purified by differiential attachment. The characteristics of cells was observed by inverted microscope. vWF and CD31 immunofluorescence analysis was applied for identification of cells.
RESULTSThe number of cells was positively correlated with patients' age after 24 hours in primary culture. The older patients had the less cells numbered. After 4 to 5 days' culture, primary cells appeared short spindle, polygon shaped and cobblestone-like morphology. After 7 to 10 days' culture, primary cells proliferated densely, became fusion, arranged in swirl, and contact inhibition appeared significantly. Immunofluorescence staining revealed the cells were 100% positive for vWF and CD31, and it showed that the cultured cells were BMECs.
CONCLUSIONIt was a simple, steady, effective method with good reproducibility, by which highly purified human BMECs can be obtained.

The shape and structure of granules are controlled by the granulation process, which is one of the main factors to determine the nature of the solid dosage forms. In this article, three kinds of granules of a traditional Chinese medicine for improving appetite and promoting digestion, namely, Jianwei Granules, were prepared using granulation technologies as pendular granulation, high speed stirring granulation, and fluidized bed granulation and the powder properties of them were investigated. Meanwhile, synchrotron radiation X-ray computed micro tomography (SR-µCT) was applied to quantitatively determine the irregular internal structures of the granules. The three-dimensional (3D) structure models were obtained by 3D reconstruction, which were more accurately to characterize the three-dimensional structures of the particles through the quantitative data. The models were also used to quantitatively compare the structural differences of granules prepared by different granulation processes with the same formula, so as to characterize how the production process plays a role in the pharmaceutical behaviors of the granules. To focus on the irregularity of the particle structure, the box counting method was used to calculate the fractal dimensions of the granules. The results showed that the fractal dimension is more sensitive to reflect the minor differences in the structure features than the conventional parameters, and capable to specifically distinct granules in structure. It is proved that the fractal dimension could quantitatively characterize the structural information of irregular granules. It is the first time suggested by our research that the fractal dimension difference (Df,c) between two fractal dimension parameters, namely, the volume matrix fractal dimension and the surface matrix fractal dimension, is a new index to characterize granules with irregular structures and evaluate the effects of production processes on the structures of granules as a new indicator for the granulating process control and optimization.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the shoulder function after arthroscopic reduction and internal fixation in patients with bony Bankart lesion.
METHODSBetween May 2004 and May 2008, 45 patients with bony Bankart lesion who were treated with all arthroscopic reduction and internal fixation with metal anchors were included in this study. Among them 40 patients were male and 5 patients were female. The average age at the surgery was 27.6 years (16.5 - 50.1 years). The average duration of follow-up was 29.7 months (24.8 - 49.0 months). A history of recurrent dislocation of affected shoulder was found in all patients. Metal anchors were used to fix the bony Bankart lesion during the surgery. Hill-Sachs remplissage technique was used to treat the Engaging Hill-Sachs lesion. The preoperative American Shoulder and Elbow Society (ASES) score, Constant-Murley score, Rowe score and the VAS score for instability were 84 ± 14, 95.1 ± 4.6, 39.4 ± 2.9 and 5 ± 3 respectively.
RESULTSNo significant change was found regarding active forward elevation, external rotation and internal rotation after the surgery. The ASES score, Constant-Murley score, Rowe score and the VAS score of stability were 95 ± 7, 98.3 ± 2.2, 84.5 ± 22.0 and 1 ± 2, improved significantly higher after the surgery (P < 0.01). One subluxation and 3 redislocation were happened during follow-up. The overall failure rate was 8.9% (4/45).
CONCLUSIONSAll arthroscopic reduction and fixation of bony Bankart lesion can achieve a good result.
