Egr-1 is an important transcription factor, which regulates at least 30 kinds of gene expression. Egr-1 couples extracellular signals to long-term responses by altering expression of Egr-1 target genes. So egr-1 can directly or indirectly affect cell differentiation, apoptosis, immune response, injury and repair. This article reviewed the progress in Egr-1 and the lung disease.

AIM:To observe the image features of Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease (VKH) and multiple central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC) by fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) and optical coherence tomography (OCT).METHODS:Thirty-two eyes of 17 patients with VKH and thirty-five eyes of 30 patients with multiple CSC were collected from 2009 to 2016 in my hospital.RESULTS:All the eyes with VKH were found small and dense fluorescein leakage in the early stage. The 17 eyes (53%) with VKH were found fluorescein accumulation in the final stage;24 eyes (75%) with VKH were found high fluorescence of optic disc. All of eyes with multiple CSC were found multifocal leakage in the early stage. And 2 eyes (6%) with multiple CSC were found high fluorescence of optic disc. There were 28 eyes (14 patients) with VKH and 25 eyes (22 patients) with multiple CSC had been done OCT in my hospital.Retinal pigment epithelial fold was only found in VKH.Fluctuation of internal limiting membrane (ILM) and membrane structure had higher sensitivity to diagnostic VKH from to multiple CSC, with sensitivity of 54% and 68% respectively.CONCLUSION:There are some similarities as well as differences between FFA and OCT in diagnosis of VKH and multiple CSC.A combination usage of FFA and OCT can be more effective in distinguishing VKH from multiple CSC.
4.Selective distribution of IL-1β and IL-6 contents in the right and left cortices of Balb/c mice
Acta Physiologica Sinica 2001;53(2):152-154
The purpose of the present work was to study the different distribution of interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) contents in the right and left cortices, which may be related to the differences in immunomodulatory functions between the two cerebral cortices. Samples of tissue homogenate were prepared from the left and right cerebral cortices of the Balb/c mice and IL-1β, and IL-6 contents were measured using ELISA kits. Both IL-1β (P<0.01) and IL-6 (P<0.001) contents of the right cortex were higher than those of the left. After injection of LPS, the IL-6 content of the left cortex increased. No statistically significant difference of IL-1β contents was found between the two cerebral cortices, while the IL-6 content of the right cortex was higher than that of the left (P<0.01), suggesting that some cytokines are probably involved in the differences between the right and left cerebral immunomodulatory functions in mice.

Objective: To evaluate the influence of recombinant human brain natriuretic peptide(rhBNP)on ventricular remodeling and ventricular systolic synchrony in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).Methods: A total of 48 patients with AMI after PCI were randomized into two groups: rhBNP Group (n=25) and Routine treatment Group (n=23).Two dimension echocardiography was used to measure the index of left ventricular end-diastolic volume (LVEDVI), the index of left ventricular end-systolic volume (LVESVI), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), the index of left ventricular mass (LVMI), the movement index of infarcted regional wall (RWMI) at 1 week, 4 weeks and 24 weeks after the treatment procedure. And at 1 week and 24 weeks period, equilibrium radionuclide angiography was performed respectively to evaluate the ventricular systolic synchrony. Results: ①1 week after PCI, LVESVI in rhBNP group was decreased and LVEF was increased than that in Routine treatment group (P<0.05, respectively).4 and 24 weeks after PCI, LVEDVI, LVESVI, LVEF were significantly different in rhBNP group than those in Routine treatment group (P<0.05,respectively).24 weeks after PCI, RWMI and LVMI were significantly decreased in rhBNP group than those in Routine treatment group(P<0.05,respectively).②24 weeks after PCI, phase shift, full width at half maximum and peak phase standard deviation were significantly improved in rhBNP group than those in Routine treatment group (P<0.05, respectively). Conclusion: Intravenous injection of rhBNP could inhibit left ventricular remodeling and improve left ventricular function.
6.The correlations between plasma TNF-alpha, NO, NOS levels and brain lateralization in mice.
Acta Physiologica Sinica 2002;54(6):513-518
The brain modulates the immune system in an asymmetrical way, as shown by the association between paw preference and immune response in the mice. The purpose of the present work was to study the relationship between plasma tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), nitric oxide (NO) and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and brain lateralization. In the study, paw preference test was used to select right-pawed, left-pawed and ambidextrous mice. Mice were classified as the right-pawed if the right paw entry (RPE) score was equal to or greater than 30 (30-50), as the left-pawed if the score was equal to or less than 20 (0-20), and as the ambidextrous if the score was between 21 and 29. One week after the paw preference testing, the animals were injected intraperitoneally with either sterilized 0.9% saline or lipopolysaccharide (LPS) (5 microg/0.5 ml NS) and were killed 2 h later. Plasma was collected from each mouse. The level of plasma TNF-alpha was measured with ELISA kits provided by ENDOGEN. NO and NOS levels of plasma were detected with kits from Juli Biotechnology Company. The results showed that (1) in the normal mice, ambidextrous mice had higher NO levels compared with left-pawed mice (P<0.05). After the injection of LPS, plasma level of TNF-alpha was lower in left-pawed mice compared with those of the right-pawed and ambidextrous mice; plasma level of NO was higher in ambidextrous mice compared with those of the right- (P<0.01) and left-pawed (P<0.05) ones, and there was no significant difference in the plasma levels of NOS among ambidextrous, right- and left-pawed mice. (2) Immune parameters were correlated with the RPE scores. The shape of the curve describing this relation was similar to a parabola. In general, the levels of TNF-alpha, NO, NOS rose along with the increase of RPE if the scores were in the score range of left-pawed mice. After that, they reached a peak if the scores were in the score range of ambidextrous mice. Then they declined along with the increase of RPE if the scores were in the score range of right-pawed mice. In conclusion, plasma levels of TNF-alpha, NO and NOS were associated with brain lateralization, suggesting that the activities of Mo/Mphi were influenced by brain lateralization, and that the immune parameters were correlated with the RPE scores.

Chinese Journal of Geriatrics 2010;29(2):103-106
Objective To evaluate the effect on the reversal of left ventricular aneurysm (LVA) and on heart function of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) therapy at different time of acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Methods A total of 326 patients with primary anterior AMI-accompanied LVA diagnosed by left ventriculography (LVG) from January 2001 to July 2004 were enrolled in this study. They were randomized into 4 groups according to the time of accepting PCI:≤3 h group, 4-6 h group, 7-12 h group and one week group. At the baseline and 6 months after AMI, the parameters of left ventricular diastolic volume index (LVEDVI), left ventricular systolic volume index (LVESVI), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), left ventricular wall motion score (LVWMS) and left ventricular end diastolic pressure (LVEDP) were measured by LVG. The paradox volume index (PVI) was measured by equilibrium radionuclide at one week and 6 months after AMI.At 3 year following up to, the major adverse cardiac events (MACE) were recorded. Results At 6 months after PCI, the LVESVI, LVEDVI, WMS and LVEDP were all decreased while LVEF was increased in the four groups as compared with pre-PCl (P<0.05, respectively). Those parameters changed most obviously in ≤3 h group. At the 6th month after PCI, the PVI was lower in ≤3 h group (12.1±2.1)% than in 4-6 h, 7-12 h and one week group [(15.4±2.4)%, (16.5±2.5)% and (20.4±3.7)%, all P<0.05]. Within the 3 years follow-up, the MACE was significantly lower in 3 h, 4-6 h and 7-12 h groups than in one week group, and the mortality was lower too [(2.8%, 3.0% and 3.1% vs. 17.9%, all P<0.05]. Conclusions The early, fully and permanent open of the infraction-related artery can effectively inhibit the left ventricular remodeling process, prevent LVA formation, improve LV function and prognosis.

Objective: To compare the clinical efficacy between 'warming-unblocking needling technique' and reinforcing method by twirling in treating knee osteoarthritis (KOA) due to deficiency of liver and kidney. Methods: A total of 72 patients with KOA were divided into a warming-unblocking group and a reinforcing group by complete randomized method, with 36 cases in each group. Xuehai (SP 10), Heding (EX-LE 2), Liangqiu (ST 34), Neixiyan (EX-LE 4), Xizhong (Extra), Dubi (ST 35), Yinlingquan (SP 9), Zusanli (ST 36) and Yanglingquan (GB 34) were the main points in both groups. Taichong (LR 3), Taixi (KI 3) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6) were the combined points. 'Warming-unblocking needling technique' was applied in the warming-unblocking group, and reinforcing method by twirling was applied in the reinforcing group. The treatments were performed once a day, 10 times as a treatment course, at a 2-day interval between two courses, for 3 courses in total. The scores of Western Ontario and McMaster Universities osteoarthritis index (WOMAC) in the two groups were observed before and after the treatment, and the clinical efficacy was compared. Results: After treatment, the total effective rate was 94.3% in the warming-unblocking group and 87.9% in the reinforcing group, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). The component scores of pain, stiffness and daily activities in WOMAC and total WOMAC scores in both groups decreased after treatment (all P<0.01). The component and total WOMAC scores in the warming-unblocking group were lower than those in the reinforcing group (P<0.05 or P<0.01). Conclusion:'Warming-unblocking needling technique' has significant efficacy than reinforcing method by twirling in treating KOA due to deficiency of liver and kidney. It can significantly improve pain, stiffness and daily functional activities of patients.

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of electroacupuncture (EA) plus Tanbo-plucking the trigger points for scapulohumeral periarthritis (SP). Methods:A total of 80 patients with SP were randomized into an observation group and an EA group by the random number table, with 40 cases in each group. The EA group was treated with EA therapy, and the observation group was treated with EA therapy plus Tanbo-plucking the trigger points. After treatment, the visual analog scale (VAS) and Melle scores of the two groups were compared to evaluate the improvement of shoulder pain and functional activity, and meanwhile the clinical efficacy was observed. Results: After treatment, the total effective rate of the observation group was 95.0% and the cure and markedly effective rate was 72.5%. The total effective rate of the EA group was 87.5% and the cure and markedly effective rate was 42.5%. There was no significant difference in the total effective rate between the two groups (P>0.05). The cure and markedly effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the EA group, and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P<0.05). After treatment, the intra-group differences in VAS and Melle scores of both groups were statistically significant (bothP<0.001). The inter-group differences in the changes of the VAS and Melle scores after treatment were statistically significant (bothP<0.001). Conclusion: EA plus Tanbo-plucking the trigger points has a better curative effect than EA therapy alone in the treatment of SP.
