Objective To explore the main affecting factors on sanitary quality of public places and to assess the sanitary quality scientifically. Methods The sanitary qualities of 6 kinds of public places of entertainment in Taiyuan during 1998～2000 were assessed using the method of compreheusive fuzzy assessmeat. Results All of 6 kinds of public places revealed similar sanitary qualities. All of the sanitary indexes accorded with the related National Sanitary Standards. The sanitary qualities were better for ballrooms, theaters, bar and billiard rooms in hotels with Grade Ⅰ quality, and were worse for tennis and bowling halls with Grade Ⅱ quality. The assessments on single index showed that the affecting factors of sanitary quality of public places of entertainment were the levels of CO2, noise and CO. Conclusion The sanitary quality of entertainment public places was better during 1998～2000.

ObjectiveTo overview the relationship between translational medicine and Chinese medicine, and the developments of translational medicine in TCM. MethodsResearch and reporting literatures on translational medicine m TCM and western medicine were collated and analyzed. The development and application of translational medicine was introduced. Objective To study whether the mechanism of mifepristone in treating adenomyosis is suppressing matrix metalloproteinase-9 and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1(MMP-9/TIMP-1). Methods Thirty-five patients in the mifepristone treated group(19 cases of adenomyosis) and the control group(16 cases of adenomyosis,non-drug treated) underwent hysterectomy.Endometrium was looked as eutopic endometrium and adenomyosis as ectopic endometrium.Expression of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in eutopic and ectopic endometrium were measured by immunohistochemical techniques. Results The ectopic endometrium of the mifepristone treated group expressed lower level of MMP-9,higher level of TIMP-1 and lower ratio of MMP-9/TIMP-1 than the ectopic endometrium of the control group(P

Two Kinds of monoclonal antibodies (McAbs), Ft9 and Ft9t44, have been produced using the vaccine strain of Franciisela.tularensis as an antigen.The McAbs. Ft9 and Ft4,4, were isotyped to be IgG2b and IgM respectively Ft9 was found to be directed against outer membrane protein of F. tularensis, while Ft44 directed against lipopolysaccharide. The McAbs have been identified in detecting F. tularensis cells in an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Ft9 was able to react with the bacterium in agglutination test and fluorescent antibody stain with no cross-reaction with other bacteria was found.

Objective To study the adverse effects of air pollution on children's health. Methods Based on statistical data on monthly outpatient visits of Shanxi Provincial Children Hospital, the monitoring data on air pollution and meteorological factors during 1995～1997 in Taiyuan, a correlation analysis on the levels of air pollutants and monthly children outpatient visits was carried out. Results The monthly means of both TSP and SO2 were over the National Air Quality Standard of grade Ⅱ. The level of TSP in air was 1.77 times as high as the national standard. The children outpatient visits to department of internal medicine made up the largest proportion in the hospital (60.72%). Canonical correlation analysis revealed that the levels of SO2 in air gave a greatest contribution (?=0.9901), air temperature did less than air humidity, and the levels of air pollutants did more than meteorological factors to children health damage. Compared with different departments in hospital, the outpatients of department of internal medicine provided the largest share in the total outpatients visits (?=2.2793), then did the emergence department of internal medicine (?=1.9201). Conclusion The more close correlation of air pollution and the children outpatient visits was mainly observed between the levels of SO2 and the outpatient visits to the departments of emergency and internal medicine. The air pollution in Taiyuan had caused adverse effects on children's health to a certain extent.

To study the effects of fractioned ir radiation on the total RNA and MDR 1 mRNA of NCI H 446 small cell lung cancer cell line, NCI H446 cells in the period of exponential growth were exposed to 60 Co ? radiation at 2 Gy/fraction, 2 fraction/week, with the cumulative dose of 50 Gy by 25 fractions. The total RNA of the cells of the irradiated group and control group were extracted by the acid guanidine thiocyanate phenol chloroform method and the amount of the expression of MDR 1 mRNA was assessed by qualitative RT PCR assays. Under the conditions of same cell number and volume, in cells of the control group, the concentration of the total RNA was 25 9 ?g/ml and the ratio of MDR 1 DNA/? actinDNA was 1 078, whereas in cells of the irradiation group, the corresponding values were 16 6 ?g/ml and 1 338, respectively. It is concluded that, for the NCI H446 small cell lung cancer cell line, a high dose accumulated during fractioned irradiation can inhibit the synthesis of its total RNA and enhance the expression of its MDR 1 gene at the same time.
