AIM: To investigate the effect of low intensity white light irradiation on the retinas of mice.
METHODS: Thirty C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into two groups. The number of the mice in each group was 15. The mice in experimental group received dark adaptation from 5:00p. m. to 6:00p. m. , and then exposed to LED white light from 6:00p. m. to 7:00p. m. everyday for a month. At 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30d after the beginning, we examed the histology of mice retinas, calculated the thickness of outer nuclear layer ( ONL ) , inner nuclear layer ( INL ) and analyzed electrophysiology of mice.
RESULTS:One month after experiment, compared to the control group, the latency of Rod-R a wave of the mice in experimental group significantly prolonged, the amplitude of Cone-R b wave of the mice in experimental group significantly decreased and the latency of b wave of the mice in experimental group significantly prolonged ( P<0. 05). There are no significant difference in the histology of retina, ONL and INL thicknesses.
CONCLUSION: 100lux low intensity white light could give rise to the impairment of the retinal functions in dark-adapted mice.

Based on the counting results from nutrition agar in our study, and compared with another two kinds of coliform bacteria detective plates for dinner and drinking sets which were provided by two manufactures and inspected by China National Health Bureau , we accomplished the detectability test of the Huankai coliform bacteria plates. In our study, 3kinds of cell density were adopted: 10cells/mL, 50cells/mL and 100cells/mL . The results shew that the detectability of Huankai plates basically conformed with that of nutrition agar , and was no evident difference from that of another two kinds of plates. The conclusions were that Huankai plates can completely be used in the inspection and test for conform bacteria.

Persicae Semen (PS), a traditional Chinese medicine, has been widely used for the syndrome of blood stasis in China since the Eastern Han Dynasty. In the present study, we developed an HPLC-UV fingerprint analysis method for the quality control of PS. The HPLC fingerprint was performed on Shimadzu Inertsil C18 column (4.6 mm x 250 mm, 5 microm) at 35 degrees C. The mobile phases were composed of acetonitrile and water using a gradient elution. The flow rate was 1.0 mL x min(-1), and the detection wavelength was set at 210 nm. The fingerprint method was validated according to the Guidelines for Traditional Chinese Medicine Injection Fingerprint, and applied to determine 41 batches representative herbs collected from Xinjiang of China. The chromatographic peaks were characterized by UPLC-Q-TOF-MS, and nine of them were identified by comparison with the literature and/or reference standards. In order to classify and assess the samples, hierarchical clustering analysis and partial least square discriminant analysis were performed based on the common chromatographic peaks, and the samples were geographically classified into two classes, with six chemical compounds as classification markers which were significantly different between the two classes (P < 0.05).

Objective To profile the phenotype and pathogens of cutaneous and mucous mycoses in a dermatology outpatient clinic in Nanchang region. Methods A review was performed to assess cutaneous and mucous mycoses diagnosed in the dermatology outpatient clinic of Dermatology Hospital of Jiangxi Province from 2006 to 2008. The relationship of clinical phenotype and pathogens to season, patients' age and gender was analyzed. Results A total of 7251 cases were collected, and the ratio of male to female patients was 2.3: 1. The most prevalent mycoses included tinea cruris (2702, 37.1%), pityriasis versicolor (1505, 20.8%) and tinea manus (727, 10.0%). In total, 4953 fungal strains were isolated from all the patients except for those with pityriasis versicolor, of them, Trichophyton rubrum accounted to 69.9%, Candida to 20.4%, and Trichophyton violaceum to 4.5%. Season, patients' age and gender were found to be associated with clinical phenotypes and pathogens of mycoses. Conclusions In the dermatology outpatient clinic of Nanchang region, tinea cruris is the most common superficial fungal disease, with the predominant pathogen being Trichophyton rubrum. Trichophyton violaceum is the primary pathogen of tinea capitis, which is different from other reports.

Objective To observe the distribution of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) and the effects on expression of apoptosis relative proteins Caspase 3 and Bcl-2 after intravenous transplanted into ischemic rat brains. Methods MSCs from SD rats were cultivated and proliferated in vitro and marked with CFSE.MSCs were then intravenously transplanted into middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO)models of SD rats. The rats were killed at different time points to observe the distribution of MSCs under fluorescence microscoDe as well as the effects on expression of apoptosis relative proteins Caspase 3 and Bcl-2 using immunohistochemical method. Results Density of Caspase 3 in immunohistochemically positive area in transplantion group were(2.81±0.35)%,(3.98±0.67)%,(5.58±0.92)%,(3.51±0.63)%,(1.64±0.29)%in 6,12,24,72 hours and in 7 days, respectively, and decreased significantly compared with those of control group[(3.92±0.44)%,(5.23±0.30)%,(6.89±0.57)%,(4.39±0.57)%,(2.29±0.21)%],the difference being significant(t=4.37,3.34,2.60,2.32,3.90,P<0.05 or<0.01).The density of Bcl-2 in immunohistochemically positive area in transplantation group were(4.70±0.16)%,(5.61±0.26)%,(3.00±0.28)%respectively in 6,12 hours and in 7 days, which had improved significantly compared with those of control group[(3.28±0.27)%,(4.54±0.59)%,(2.15±0.62)%],the difference being significant(t=8.32,3.25,2.54,P<0.05 or<0.01).Conclusions Bone marrow MSCs can exert protective effects on brain ischemia and reperfusion injury possibly by down-regulating Caspase 3 and up-regulating Bcl-2.

Objective To compare the heart function and observe the clinical prognosis of dilated cardiomyopathy(DCM) in children treated with combination of prednisone and azathioprine and high dose intravenous immunoglobulin(IVIG).Methods From Jan.1998 to May 2004,20 children who met the diagnostic criteria of DCM were divided into 2 therapeutic groups(groupⅠ,groupⅡ) according to the time of hospitalization. On the basis of traditional congestive heart failure(CHF) therapy, the children in groupⅠwere treated with immunosuppressive therapy(prednisone plus azathioprine) and the children in groupⅡ were treated with high dose IVIG.The course of treatment was 6 months for all children.Heart functions in all children were evaluated and echocardiographic parameters including left auricular diameter(LA),left ventricular end diastolic diameter(LV),left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) and cardiac index(CI) were measured before and after therapy, respectively. All children were followed up for 1 year to observe survival rate(%).The findings were analyzed by t test and ?~2 test. Results The percentage of heart function increased from Ⅲ-Ⅳ toⅠ-Ⅱin groupⅠ,which was lower than that in groupⅡ(P
