Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of KAI1 mRNA and the clinicopathological parameters and prognostic outcome of patients with gastric Callcer. Methods The expressions of KAI1 mRNA in 70 samples of gastric cancer tissue and 18 samples of benign gastric lesion were detected by in situ hybridization. Results The positive rates of KAI1 mRNA expression in benign gastric lesion and gastric cancer tissue were 94%(17/18)and 31%(22/70),respectively.The expression of KAI1 mRNA was influenced by tumor difierentiation degree and the state of lymph node metastasis. The positive rate of KAI1 mRNA expression was gradually decreased as the increase of invasion depth and the tumor clinical stages. The 5-year survival rate of patients with positive expression of KAI1 mRNA WaS higher than these with negative expression of KAI1 mRNA.Conclmions The less and down-regulation of KAI1 gene expression may be involved in the occurrence and development of gastric cancer.KAI1 gene might be a valuable indicator for early diagnosis and predicting the malignancy and metastasis potential of gastric cancer and the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer.

BACKGROUND:Hydrothermal condition of oral environment has an effect on the mechanical properties of dental core materials.
OBJECTIVE:To evaluate effect of water storage on the weight change rates and flexural properties of three dual-cure core buildup composite resins.
METHODS: Rectangular specimens (25 mm×2 mm×2 mm) were prepared from three dual-cure core buildup composite resins (LuxaCore Smartmix Dual, Para core and Clearfil DC Core). Specimens were stored in distiled water at 37℃ for 0, 1 day, 1, 2, 3 weeks and 1 month, respectively, weighted and then subjected to three-point bending test in a universal testing machine.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Weight change rates of the three composite resins increased with immersion time; at the same immersion time, weight change rates of three composite resins ranked as the folowing order: LuxaCore Smartmix Dual > ParaCore > Clearfil DC Core. The flexural strength of LuxaCore Smartmix Dual decreased with immersion time. The flexural strength of ParaCore showed no significant change during 3 weeks immersion (P > 0.05), while it showed a significant decreasing after 1 month immersion (P < 0.05). There was no significant change on the flexural strength of Clearfil DC Core in the whole immersion process(P > 0.05). The flexural modulus of LuxaCore Smartmix Dual showed a decreased trend in the whole immersion process, but it showed that there was no significant change during the first 2 weeks(P > 0.05), while a significant decrease occurred after 3 weeks and 1 month (P < 0.05). Compared with original specimens, the flexural modulus of ParaCore and Clearfil DC Core showed a decreased trend, but this change was not significant (P > 0.05); the flexural properties of three composite resins showed a fluctuant decreased trend along with weight changes increased. To sum up, Clearfil DC Core showed the best water resistance among three composite resins.

Objective To study the changes of umbilical blood lactate,pH, blood sugar(BS),bilirubin, electrolyte, osmotic pressure (OP) in the newboms with fetal distress. Methods Thirty-five newborns with fetal distress (distress group) and 40 healthy new-borns (control group) were studied. Distress group were divided into distress group Ⅰ and distress group Ⅱ respectively, based on without or with neonatal asphyxia. Concentration of umbilical blood lactate was determined with enzyme method, pH, BS,serum total bilirubin (BIL), serum electrolyte (Na+ ,K+ ,Ca2+ ) and OP were analyzed respectively. Results 1. The difference of incidence of newborn asphyxia between distress groups (29.03%) and control group (2.50%) was statistically significant. 2. Compared with the controls and distress group Ⅰ, the umbilical blood lactate concentration significantly increased in distress group Ⅱ (P 0.05).The incidence of hyperglycemia was significantly elevated in distress groups than that in the control group. 4. Lactate concentration in distress I and distress fl group showed negative correlation with pH. Conclusion The concentration of umbilical blood lactate can provide the proof for diagnosis and prognosis of fetal distress.

AIM: To compare the visual acuity and contrast sensitivity of eyes with different corneal spherical aberration implanted with the same aspherical IOL and evaluate the effect of different ocular spherical aberration on visual performance after phacoemulsification.
METHODS:It was a prospective case series study. Forty-six eyes of thirty-nine age-related cataract patients in our department were included. The patients were divided into 3 groups according to the value of preoperative corneal spherical aberration. Eyes with corneal spherical aberration≤0. 2μm were assigned to group A, those with corneal spherical aberration >0. 2μm and ≤0. 3μm to group B, and those with corneal spherical aberration≥ 0. 3μm to group C. All patients underwent phacoemulcification and recieved AcrySof IQ aspheric IOL. Uncorrected visual acuity ( UCVA ) , best-corrected visual acuity( BCVA) , contrast sensitivity, and total ocular higher - order aberrations for a 6. 0mm pupil were recorded 3mo postoperatively. ANOVA were used to analyze the data.
RESULTS: There were no significant differences in UCVA and BCVA between the 3 groups (P=0. 287, 0. 115). Contrast sensitivity was no statistically significant difference between the 3 groups at any spatial frequency under photopic、 mesopic, and mesopic with glare conditions (P>0. 05). With a 6. 0mm pupil diameter, root mean square values for total ocular higher - order aberrations were lower in groups A and B than that in group C (P=0. 000). The difference of total ocular spherical aberration was statistically significant between the 3 groups (P=0. 000). Coma and trefoil were similar between the groups (P=0. 788,0. 590), with no statistically significant differences.CONCLUSION:Implantation of the same aspherical IOL in eyes with different corneal spherical aberration results in similar visual acuity and contrast sensitivity. Small differences of ocular spherical aberration after phacoemulsification have no effect on visual performance.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the protective effect and mechanism of Naoningkang Granule (NG), a Chinese medicinal preparation formulated for clearing heat and detoxication, on brain tissue in intracerebral hemorrhagic (ICH) rats.
METHODSRats were randomly divided into 5 groups: the sham operated group, the model group and the high-, medium- and low-dose NG groups. Collagenase VII was injected into caudate nucleus to induce rat model of ICH, corresponding dosage of NG was started to give to the 3 NG groups by gastrogavage 2 h after modeling, and saline of equal volume was given to the other 2 groups instead. The brain tissue of rats was taken in batches at the 3rd and 7th day for pathomorphological observation using HE stain, and detection of thrombin receptor-1 (PAR-1) expression and nerve cell apoptosis in the peripheral tissue of hemorrhagic brain with immunohistochemistry and TUNEL assay, as well as for measurement of water content in brain tissue by wet-to-dry weight method.
RESULTSPAR-1 expression elevated in the model rats. As compared with the model group, the pathomorphological changes significantly improved, PAR-1 expression decreased, apoptotic cells re-duced and brain edema alleviated in the 3 NG groups.
CONCLUSIONOverexpression of PAR-1 in the brain tissue might mediate the nerve cell apoptosis and brain edema in ICH rats. The mechanism of NG in protecting hemor-rhagic brain tissue might be related with its actions in inhibiting the post-cerebral high PAR-1 expression to re-duce cell apoptosis and relieve brain edema.

Objective:To observe the effects of different moxibustion time on cartilage morphology, tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α and interleukin(IL)-10 of the knee joint in rats with knee osteoarthritis(KOA),and to explore the best treatment time of moxibustion for KOA.Methods:Healthy male Wistar rats were randomly divided into a blank group,a model group,a 15-minute-moxibustion group,a 30-minute-moxibustion group, and a 60-minute-moxibustion group, with 10 rats in each group.Except for the blank group, the KOA model was established in all groups by injecting sodium iodoacetate solution into the knee joint cavity of rats.Rats in the 15-minute-moxibustion group, the 30-minute-moxibustion group, and the 60-minute-moxibustion group were all treated with mild moxibustion intervention for 15 min,30 min,and 60 min, respectively at Neixiyan(EX-LE4)and Dubi(ST35)points near the patella,3 times a week for 4 weeks,12 times in total.Rats in the blank group and the model group were fixed for 30 min without moxibustion intervention.Macroscopic observation for the smoothness of knee cartilage surface was performed after the intervention.Hematoxylin-eosin staining, toluidine blue staining, and Mankin score were used to evaluate the pathological changes in the cartilage. The expression levels of TNF-α and IL-10 in the serum were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results:Compared with the blank group, the articular cartilage surface in the model group was rough, the chondrocyte arrangement was irregular, the Mankin score and the serum TNF-α expression were significantly increased(P<0.05),while the expression of serum IL-10 was significantly decreased(P<0.05).Compared with the model group, the articular cartilage surface was smoother, the chondrocytes were arranged neatly, the Mankin score and serum TNF-α expression level were significantly lower in the three moxibustion intervention groups(P<0.05);the serum IL-10 level in the 30-minute-moxibustion group and the 60-minute-moxibustion group was increased significantly(P<0.05).Compared with the 15-minute-moxibustion group, the articular cartilage surface in the 30-minute-moxibustion group and the 60-minute-moxibustion group was smoother, the chondrocyte arrangement was more regular, the Mankin score and the serum TNF-α level were decreased significantly(P<0.05),and the serum IL-10 level was increased(P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the serum TNF-α or IL-10 level between the 30-minute-moxibustion group and the 60-minute-moxibustion group(P>0.05).Conclusion:Moxibustion can obviously improve the morphology and structure of KOA articular cartilage, protect articular cartilage, inhibit cartilage inflammation, and delay KOA cartilage degeneration.Moxibustion's effect is closely related to moxibustion time;the therapeutic effect of the 30-minute-moxibustion and the 60-minute-moxibustion is better than that of the 15-minute-moxibustion.
