Background and purpose:Epirubicin is one of the fi rst line chemotherapy drugs in the treatment of breast cancer, and liposome doxorubicin is a new antitumor drug that has been reported to have less cardiotoxicity and myelosuppression compared to free doxorubicin. Dentritic cells (DC) play important roles in tumor immunity. Our experiment investigated the impacts of epirubicin and liposome doxorubicin on different human breast cancer cell lines and dentritic cells, and evaluated their roles in the treatment of breast cancer. Methods:Human breast cancer cell lines, Bcap37 and MDA-MB-231, along with human dentritic cells isolated and induced into maturation, were cultured with epirubicin and liposome adriamycin at different concentrations (0, 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, 10.0 ?g/ml), respectively. The inhibitory effects were detected by MTT method after 24, 48, 72 h. Results:Epirubicin and liposome adriamycin could inhibit the proliferation of Bcap37 cells, MDA-MB-231 cells, and human dentritic cells. Objective To investigate the role of sICAM-1 and TNF in the acute rejection of renal graft. Methods Serum sICAM-1 and TNF were sequentially determined in 41 patients with renal graft by ELISA and L_(929) target cell methods. Results The change of serum sICAM-1 was same as TNF, there was no significant difference in serum sICAM-1 and TNF among healthy controls, uremic patients, CsA toxioosis and stable transplantation. During acute rejection(AR) and infection episode, both serum sICAM-1 and TNF were obviously elevated. While the serum creatinine had no significant changes during infection, the serum sICAM-1 and TNF were elevated as early as 1～3 days before the rise of serum creatinine. Conclusion The serial assay of serum sICAM-1 and TNF would be helpful in the early diagnosis and differential diagnosis of AR.

Objective To inquire into the value of Liechtenstein Hernioplasty in the therapy of oblique or direct hernia.Method Liechtenstein was used in the therapy of 163 cases of oblique hernia (154 cases) and direct hernia (9 cases) from Feb.1998 to Jun.2001 and the clinical data was retrospectively studied.Most of them are of onset hernia except 8 cases of recurrent hernia.In 148 cases,the diameter of hernia ring is less than 2.5 cm and 30.1% of patients are elder than 65.The emergent operation was adopted in 12 cases.Results Off-bed exercises can be admitted at early stage of postoperation with slight pain and no local tension.Total recovery was obtained in 5-10 days after operation.After 6-36 months' follow-up,no mortality and less recurrence was detected.Conclusions There are so many advantages to treat oblique or direct hernia with Liechtenstein, such as minimized trauma, accelerated recovery,low recurrence rate and low cost. The indication of this operation involved all kinds of hernia (onset or recurrence of oblique or direct hernia,emergent operation of incarcerated oblique hernia, etc).

The history of Western Pacific Region Index Medicus (WPRIM), and advances in its journal selection, retrieval service platform construction and data acquisition were described.The daily record of users showed that WPRIM is of certain international influencing power, but is not a matured regional international index medicus. Suggestions were put forward for its popularization, project development funds, journal review and data acquisition.
