The relation between the critical radius and the particle size distribution for generalized Ostwald type ripening processes whereby the mass transfer coefficient is modelled by a power law was derived. The critical radius is determined by the growth rate, the mass transfer coefficient and the mass balance, and is independent of whether the limiting stationary growth regime has been obtained.

International Eye Science 2016;16(11):2124-2126
AIM: To analyze the associated factors of poor vision after phacoemulsification operation.
METHODS:Clinical data of cases with poor vision after cataract phacoemulsification combined with IOL implantation from 341 patients(418 eyes) during Jan. 2015 to Jan. 2016 in our hospital were collected and logistic correlation analyzed.
RESULTS: The incidences of postoperative low vision were 10. 3% for one month after operation. Forty-three eyes were reported low vision, and 41 of 43 the patients with postoperative low vision had fundus oculi disease before operation, which included 20 eyes ( 48. 8%) with age-related macular degeneration, 16 eyes(39. 0%) with diabetic retinopathy, 3 eyes ( 7. 3%) with glaucomatous optic neuropathy, 1 eye(2. 4%) with pathologic myopia of retinopathy and 1 eye ( 2. 4%) with branch retinal vein occlusion.
CONCLUSION: The associated factors of poor vision after phacoemulsification operation are preoperative eye diseases and the nuclear hardness, and preoperative eye diseases may be the main causes of postoperative low vision. Comprehensive examination should be attached importance to, and be careful in the operation to decrease the harm for visual performance.

Microbiology 1992;0(02):-
Iron uptake mechanism of Vibrio alginolyticus was primarily investigated. V.alginolyticus could survive in the medium with high-concentration iron chelator. The strain of V. alginolyticus isolated from diseased fish produced more siderophore than that from marine environment. The extract of siderophore from V. alginolyticus could stimulate the growth of Escherichia coli mutant AN93. Under iron limitation, the growth rate was decreased and several outer membrane proteins were induced. Adding iron into the iron-limited medium the normal growth could be recovered.

Chinese Journal of Digestive Endoscopy 1996;0(05):-
Objective It is difficult to differentiate tumors in upper GI muscularis proporia, such as GI stromal tumors (GISTs) , leiomyomas and schwannomas. We performed EUS guided fine needle aspirations (FNA) and immunohistochemical evaluation of these tumors in upper GI muscularis proporia. Methods We selected 35 Patients with lesions in upper GI muscularis proporia by EGD and EUS. We assessed the shape , size, and position of the lesions and the status of metastasis. After excluding blood vessel between the lesions and the fine needle, EUS FNA were carried out and immunohistochemical staining for CD-117 (c-kit) , CD34 and smooth muscle actin ( SMA) was performed. Results All patients were performed EUS FNA and enough specimens were obtained in 31 patients. The other 4 failed, although we tried it for several times. Among the 31 patients, Cytology and immunohistochemisty demonstrated 21 GISTs and 10 leiomyomas. All the results were evaluated by surgery. The sensitivity is 88. 6% , and the speciality is 100%. No complication occurred. Conclusion EUS-guided FNA and immunohistochemical evaluation is an accurate method for diferential diagnosis of tumors in upper GI muscularis propria.

Objective To assess the feasibility, safety and efficacy of endoscopic papillectomy (EP) for tumors at the ampulla of Vater (AV).Methods A total of 15 patients with tumor at AV that were indicated for EP were included in this prospective study.Their clinical profiles, procedural parameters and outcome were evaluated. Results All patients underwent EP procedure successfully.Four patients who were diagnosed as having chronic inflammation in the reference endoscopy were confirmed as having adenoma after EP.Out of the 11 patients who were previously diagnosed as andenoma on biopsy,2 of low differentiated adenocarcinoma,1 of well differentiated adenocarcinoma and 1 malignant transformation were pathologically confirmed after EP.Stents were implanted in 8 patients with dilated pancreatic and/or common bile duct.Except for 2 cases of melena and 2 transient elevated level of blood amylase after EP,no other major complications occurred.Three patients, including 1 case of low-differentiated adenocarcinoma,1 case of malignant transformation and 1 case of lesion residual, were referred to surgery, another patient with low-differentiated adenocarcinoma declined any additional intervention because of old age.In the remaining 11 cases ( 11/15,73.3% ) including one well differentiated adenocarcinoma,no recurrence was observed during a follow-up period of 23.4 (5 to 47) months. Conclusion EP is a minimal invasive, safe and effective treatment for tumors at AV,which also can provide an accurate staging of the lesion.

BACKGROUND:We have designed and manufactured a novel artificial cervical vertebra and intervertebral complex (ACVC) which combines the cervical titanium cage with the artificial cervical disc, and also developed the ACVC with a hydroxyapatite biocoating (ACVC-HA). OBJECTIVE:To evaluate biomechanical properties of the joint system, and the role of HA coating in promoting osseointegration and long-term stability. METHODS:Twenty-four goats were randomly divided into three groups and underwent the anterior C2/3 and C3/4 discectomy, and C3 subtotal corpectomy, fol owed by ACVC implantation (group 1) and ACVC-HA implantation (group 2), and given no intervention (black control group), respectively. group. At 12 weeks after surgery, C1-5 samples were col ected to undergo biomechanical tests and histological staining. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Prior to the fatigue test, compared with the blank control group, the range of motion and neural zone of groups 1 and 2 in the directions of flexion-extension and lateral bending showed no significant differences, but the above indicators were significantly increased in the direction of rotation (P<0.05). Additional y, the stiffness in al three directions was significantly lower than that in the blank control group (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in the range of motion and neural zone in al directions between groups 1 and 2. Similar results were found after the fatigue test. The histological staining showed that both two implants had good biocompatibility and abradability, but more new bone formed on the ACVC-HA. These results suggest that ACVC can effectively reconstruct the motor function of the cervical spine after decompression. Furthermore, HA coating can markedly improve bone-implant interface to promote osseointegration.
