Professor YANG Zhao-min inherited the ancient doctors'experiences about point-prescription with the principle of 'inheriting the ancients without being formalistic in the ancients, bringing new ideas without losing contact with fountainhead of TCM'. He explored new ideas based on the ancient therapy, and summed his distinctive experience up as two types:simple recipe of acupuncture and moxibustion (single point, double points, three points) and compound recipe of acupuncture and moxibustion (more than fi ve points). Those were simple-clear-essential-new in composition and form, and effective therapy in clinic.

This article was aimed to study effects and mechanisms of Gymnema sylvestre on protein kinase B (PKB) and its phosphorylation in adipose tissues of KKAy mice which were mainly characterized by insulin resistance (IR). A total of 18 KKAy mice were randomly divided into the diabetes model (DM) group and Gymnema sylvestre (GS) group according to body weight levels. And 9 normal C57BL/6J mice were used as the normal control (NC) group. Intragastric administration of medication was given to mice for 8 weeks. At the end of the experiment, all animals were tested for fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and fasting insulin level (Fins) for evaluation of insulin sensitivity index (ISI). Expressions of phosphoinositide-dependent kinase-1 (PDK1), PKB, P-PKB (Ser473), P-PKB (Thr 308) in adi-pose tissues of epididymis were determined. The expression of phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) mRNA was also determined. The results showed that compared with the DM group, the GS group showed lower FPG and Fins, higher ISI. The expression of P-PKB (Ser473) phosphorylation and P-PKB (Thr 308) were increased, and the PDK1 and PTEN mRNA were decreased. It was concluded that GS can improve insulin sensitivity of KKAy mice through activating PKB by up-regulate the expression of P- PKB (Ser473) and its phosphorylation ratio and P- PKB (Thr 308) in adipose tissues.

Objective To observe the value of speckle tracking imaging(STI) in assessing early changes of left ventricular diastolic and systolic function in patients with essential hypertension (EH). Methods Sixty-five EH patients with left ventricular normal geometry (LVN) ,including 33 cases with non-left atrial enlargement(NLAE) and 32 cases with left atrial enlargement (LAE),and 45 normal persons out of them were recruited as study subjects. Peak systole (S), peak early diastole (E'), peak late diastole (A')and E'/A' ratio at longitudinal strain rate(SrL) of three segments in long-axis views and radial strain rate (SrR),circumference strain rate(SrC) and rotation rate(RotR) of three levels in short-axis views were measured. Results There were no segment differences between A' at SrL in three segments or level differences between S and A' at SrR and S at SrC in three levels in NLAE group and LAE group. Compared with controls,NLAE group and LAE group had significantly decreased S and E' at SrL and E'/A' at SrL, SrR and SrC,increased A' at SrL,SrR and SrC and E' at RotR. Conclusions It was indicated by STI that early LV dysfunction in EH was appeared on diastolic as well as systolic dysfunction.

Objective To examine the relationship between hematocrit and risk of long term mortality among patients with acute myocardial infarction. Methods A total of 274 patients with acute myocardial infarction were recruited and divided into two groups by death after long term follow-up, the relationship between hematocrit and mortality was evaluated through the methods of independent t-test,chi-square test and multivariate regression analysis. Results The mean age was 69. 79 ± 7.45 years, with 73. 0% of male. The average of followup was 44. 4± 10. 7 months, with mortality of 38.7% . Comparison of baseline data showed that NYHA classification, smoking history, hemoglobin, hematocrit, mean red cell volume, glomerular filtration rate, ejection fraction, left ventricular diastolic diameter and right ventricular diameter was significantly different between the two groups( Ps < 0. 05), Multivariable logistic analysis showed that hematocrit ,glomerular filtration rate, ejection fraction and smoking history were independently predicted factors, with OR of 0. 904 (95% CI: 0. 832 - 0. 982,P =0. 016) ,0. 983 (95% CI: 0. 969 -0. 996,P =0. 014) ,0. 932 (95% CI: 0. 887 -0. 979,P =0. 005) and 3. 230 (95% CI: 1.468 - 7. 106, P = 0. 004), respectively. The power of hematocrit to predict mortality was examined by ROC curves, the area under the curve was 0. 669(P < 0. 001,95% CI: 0. 603 - 0. 736) Conclusion Hematocrit is a significant independent predictor for long term death among patients with acute myocardial infarction.
