The experiment included three potassium levels (K0 0 g x kg(-1), K1 0.33 g x kg(-1), K2 0.67 g x kg(-1)) and two water gradients (well watered and drought stress), then measured growth indicators, SOD, POD, CAT activities and concents of osmotic regulation substances. To explore the effects of K fertilizer and water on growth and physiological characteristics of Isatis indigotica, providing reference for improving drought resistance of I. indigotica. The result showed drought stress inhibited the growth and decreased the biomass of I. indigotica but K fertilizer can alleviate the drought stress. Compared with K0 treatment, K1, K2 treatment increased the biomass of overground part of by 89. 13% ,60. 87% under drought stress. The corresponding increase in soluble sugar content was 16.67%, 5.00%, and in proline content was 42.41%, 65.62%, respectively. SOD,POD and CAT activities was significantly improved in K1, K2 treatment in comparison with K0 treatment under drought stress, but soluble protein content significantly reduced. The conclusion is that appropriate amount of K fertilizer can increase the activities of antioxidase and the content of osmoregulation substance under drought stress, and improve drought resistance of I. indigotica.

Objective To investigate the distribution of Leptotrombidium deliense among different small mammal hosts in some areas of Yunnan province. Methods A field survey was carried out in some counties of Yunnan province and the small mammal hosts were captured, using mouse cages and traps with baits. Chigger mites on the surface of two auricles were scraped off by a bistoury, and then preserved in 70% ethanol. Every specimen of the chigger mites on the slides was finally identified into species under a microscope. Some conventional statistical methods were adopted to calculate all the collected chigger mite species and the constituent ratios of Leptotrombidium deliense in different areas and on different hosts, together with its prevalence and mean abundance on different hosts. Results A total of 10 222 small mammal hosts were captured from 19 counties and identified as 11 families, 34 genera and 62 species in 5 orders, and 92 990 individuals of chigger mites were collected from the body surface of these small mammal hosts. All the collected chigger mites were identified as 3 subfamilies, 22 genera, and 225 species. Meanwhile, Leptotrombidium deliensee only accounted for 1.659% of the total. The host specificity of Leptotrombidium deliense was very low and 1544 individuals of Leptotrombidium deliense collected from 8518 small mammal hosts belonged to 6 families, 13 genera and 19 species in 3 orders. Our results showed that Leptotrombidium delienses were mainly collected from Insectivora and Rodentia. Leptotrombidium deliense had long been considered as the dominant species of chigger mites and the main vector of tsutsugamushi disease in Yunnan province of China, but our results seemed not thoroughly supporting this point of view. Conclusion Traditionally, Leptotrombidium deliense was the dominant species and the main vectors of scrub typhus in Yunnan province. However, based on our results, the above view might be true in some local places and the composition of chigger mites and the main vector of tautsugamushi disease might be different in regions and habitats in Yunnan province.

To reveal the variation of polysaccharides and alcohol-soluble extract contents of Dendrobium officinale, the polysaccharides and alcohol-soluble extracts contents of three D. officinale strains were determined by phenol-sulfuric acid method and hot-dip method, respectively. The results showed that the contents of polysaccharides and alcohol-soluble extracts and their total content were significantly different among D. officinale samples collected in different periods, and the variations were closely related to the phenology of D. officinale. Additionally, the quality variation of polysaccharides was closely related to the flowering of D. officinale, while the alcohol-soluble extracts was closely associated to the formation and germination of buds. According to the dynamic variation of these two compounds, it is more reasonable to harvest D. officinale at biennials pre-bloom than at specific harvesting month considering polysaccharides content. It is better to harvest before the germination of buds considering alcohol-soluble extracts. While with regards to both polysaccharides and alcohol-soluble extract, it is better to harvest this plant at the period from the sprouting to pre-bloom next year.

Journal of Sun Yat-sen University(Medical Sciences) 2017;38(2):254-259
[Objective]To investigate the effect of pantoprazole on skeletal muscle wasting in cancer cachexia and the possible mechanism.[Methods]24 male BALB/c mice were randomly divided into control group(NN),cancer cachexia group(CC),pantrop?razole treatment group(PPI). The mice in CC and PPI were inoculated subcutaneously with mouse colon adenocarcinoma C26 cells to establish a model of cancer cachexia. The mice in PPI group were gavaged with 75 mg/kg pantoprazole dissolving in physiological saline, while those in NN and CC group were gavaged with 0.1 mL/10 g physiological saline. The mice were killed 12d after treatment. The weight of gastrocnemius and tumour and the size of tumour were measured. The morphological change of skeletal muscle were evalu?ated by the method of stain with hematoxylin and eosin(H&E). The levels of IL-6 and TNF-αin serum were tested by ELISA. qRT-PCR was used to assess the expression of mRNA of Myod1 and myf5 in skeletal muscle. The protein expressions of MuRF1,MAFBx, Myod1 and myf5 were measured by Western blot.[Results]Compared with CC group ,pantoprazole can increase the weight of mice and gastrocnemius(39.8% and 24.2%,respectively),cross section area(25.4%),levels of mRNA and protein of Myod1 and myf5(P<0.05),while the levels of IL-6 and TNF-αdecreased(30.7%and 18.9%,respectively),as well as the levels of protein ex?pression of MuRF1 and MAFBx(P < 0.05).[Conclusion]Pantoprazole can attenuate the wasting of skeletal muscle, the potential mechanism may be related to the inhibition of inflammatory factors and UPS ,and up-regulation of Myod1 and myf5.

Objective:To observe the effects of electroacupuncture(EA)combined with Western medication on lower-limb motor function and blood circulation in patients with cerebral infarction-induced hemiplegia in the acute stage. Methods:One hundred eligible patients with acute ischemic stroke accompanied by lower-limb motor dysfunction were allocated to an observation group and a control group using the random number table method, with 50 cases in each group. The control group received routine Western medications for treatment, and the observation group received additional EA intervention. After 2-week and 4-week treatments, the improvement of lower-limb motor function was assessed using the Fugl-Meyer assessment scale for lower extremity(FMA-LE),and changes in the peak blood flow velocities of the posterior tibial(PT)and dorsalis pedis(DP)arteries on the affected side were detected using Doppler. Results:Three cases dropped out during the study,so there were 48 cases in the observation group and 49 in the control group collected for statistical analysis. The FMA-LE score and the peak blood flow velocities of PT and DP arteries increased after 2-week and 4-week treatments in both groups compared with the pre-treatment baseline(P<0.05).After 2-week treatments, the FMA-LE score and the peak blood flow velocities of PT and DP arteries showed no significant differences between the two groups(P>0.05).After 4-week treatments, compared with the control group, the FMA-LE score was higher(P<0.05),and the peak blood flow velocities of PT and DP arteries on the affected side were larger in the observation group(P<0.05). Conclusion:EA combined with Western medication can significantly improve the motor function and blood flow velocity of the affected lower limb in patients with acute cerebral infarction accompanied by hemiplegia.

OBJECTIVETo study the effects of various planting densities on dynamic growth and root yield of Isatis indigotica.
METHODThe planting samples were collected to measure the growth period of each organ.
RESULT AND CONCLUSIONUnder different planting densities, both main root length and breadth exhibited a trend of "fast-slow" by stages. However, the number of individual plant leaves were showed a trend of "slow-fast" on growth period. Meanwhile, the leaf length and breadth were exhibited a trend of "increase-decrease". The increase of dry leaf, dry root and whole plant dry matter was faster during the period of 65-76 days after seeding. The differences of root and leaf yields under various densities were significant. Planting densities has a great effect on yield of root. It must be shown that there was a positive development between the individual plant and colony. According to the dry matter of root and leaf, treatment B (i.e., 7 cm x 25 cm) was good choice.
