1.Relationship between iodine and thyroid cancer
Journal of Chinese Physician 2016;18(11):1748-1750
In recent years, thyroid cancer incidence increased year by year, after the effective prevention of iodine deficiency disorders in many countries, which caused widespread attention in academia.Whether is this increasing trend related to the implementation of policy of iodized salt in many countries? Currently, the association between iodine intake and thyroid cancer is unclear. This review article describes the metabolic and nutritional status of iodine, and the epidemiology of thyroid cancer, and further elaborates the relationship and the pathogenesis of iodine and thyroid cancer.

Aiming at the issue of motor imagery electroencephalography (EEG) pattern recognition in the research of brain-computer interface (BCI), a power feature method based on discrete wavelet packet decomposition is proposed for the channels C3 and C4. Firstly, a six-border Butterworth filter is used to denoise the two-channel EEG signals. Secondly, two-channel EEG signals are decomposed to five levels using Daubechies wavelet and the fourth level and the fifth level are chosen to reconstruct the signals and compute its power feature. Finally, linear discriminant analysis (LDA) is utilized to classify the feature and the Kappa value is utilized to measure the accuracy of the classifier. This method is applied to the standard dataset BCICIV_2b-gdf of BCI Competition 2008, and experimental results show that this method reflect the feature of event-related synchronization and event-related desynchronization obviously and it is an effective way to classify the EEG patterns in the research of BCI.

Neurology Asia 2017;22(2):165-169
Methylacetoacetyl-CoA thiolase deficiency (T2 deficiency) is a rare congenital and metabolic disease
affecting the ketone body and isoleucine metabolism. The typical symptoms are refractory metabolic
acidosis, in which large amounts of 2-methyl-3-hydroxybutyry1 carnitine, 2-methyl-3-hydroxybutyrate
and tiglylglycine are often detected in the blood and urine. We herein describe an atypical case of T2
deficiency with a high level of 3-hydroxybutyrate and a low level of 2-methyl-3-hydroxybutyrate in
the urine. Such a case was diagnosed by urinary organic analysis in combination with gene mutation
evaluation. Organic acids in the urine were measured using a gas chromatography mass spectrometer
and all exons were sequenced via deep sequencing. Molecular biology analysis confirmed the presence
of a homozygous mutation in the acetyl-CoA acetyltransferase 1 (ACAT1) gene. The patient received a
special diet of deeply hydrolyzed protein milk powder and raw corn starch. She was followed about 6
months. There were no ketoacidotic episodes and hypoglycemia even when she had fever. In conclusion,
patients with atypical features of T2 deficiency should also be investigated early. Gas chromatography
mass spectrometry and next-generation full exome sequencing may be helpful in diagnosis.

Objective To explore the value of 18F-FDG PET/CT on the assessment of chemotherapy response in patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Methods 18F-FDG PET/CT was performed before and after 4 cycles of chemotherapy( R-CHOP or CHOP protocol) in 53 patients with DLBCL. The patients were divided into 3 groups: complete response group, partial response group and no response group. The therapeutic response was assessed by comparing post-treatment 18F-FDG PET/CT with pre-treatment PET/CT. Complete remission (CR) rate at the end of chemotherapy was calculated. χ2 test was performed with software SPSS 13.0. Results CR rates of complete response group, partially response group and no response group were 88.5% (23/26), 73.3% (11/15) and 8.3% (1/12), respectively (χ2=23.548, P=0.000). CR rates of the complete and partially response groups were significantly higher than those of no response group (χ2=22.656, P=0.000; χ2=11.407, P=0.001). Conclusion 18F-FDG PET/CT may be useful for the assessment of chemotherapy response in DLBCL.

_ Objective_ To examine the association between sleep duration, TV watching time, and the incidence of metabolic syndrome in people aged 40 or older in Guiyang city. Methods Data were obtained at the baseline examination ofThe epidemiological study on the risk of cancer in patients with type 2 diabetes in China in 2011. Follow-up study was conducted in 2014 to 2015. A total of 4 392(female 2 987, male 1 405)were included in the analysis. Results According to diagnostic criteria of International Diabetes Federation(IDF)in 2005, 1 035(812 women, 223 men) of the cohort developed metabolic syndrome during an average follow up for 3 years. Sleep duration was classified as≤7 h/d, 7-9 h/d,≥9 h/d, the incidence of metabolic syndrome was 24. 46%, 22. 43%, 23. 65%, respectively. TV watching time was divided into 0-1 h/d, 1. 1-2 h/d, 2. 1-4 h/d,>4 h/d, the incidence rates were 20. 67%, 22. 91%, 24. 61%, 25. 76%, respectively. In multivariate logistics regression analysis, compared with 0-1 h/d, the RR values of women with TV watching time during 1. 1-2 h/d, 2. 1-4 h/d,>4 h/d were 1. 098(95%CI 0. 789-1. 528), 141. 6(95% CI 1. 052-1. 906), 1. 559(95% CI 1. 090-2. 233), respectively. Conclusion The standardized incidence rate of metabolic syndrome in the general population was 23. 12%, the crude rate was 23. 57%. The incidence of metabolic syndrome was unrelated to the sleep duration and TV watching time as a whole or in men. TV watching time more than 2 hours a day may increase the risk of the metabolic syndrome in women.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate a nwe, simple technique for preparation of interferon-alpha-liposomes, which may be suitable for industrial use. METHODS The uniform design coupled with computerized optimization was utilized to screen the formulation and preparation procedure of interferon-alpha-liposomes. Pro-liposomes were prepared by the powder bed grinding method and combined with interferon-alpha-solution to form interferon-alpha-liposomes. Liposome size was determined by the particle size analyzer. Free interferon-alpha and interferon-alpha-liposome were separated by gel filtration. Then the recovered activity of interferon-alpha was analyzed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. RESULTS The result demonstrated that the best interferon-alpha-liposome formulation was as follows: the protectant was sorbitol; weight ratio of protectant to lipid was 5:1; weight ratio of octadecytamin to lipid was 1:9; weight ratio of sobey phosphatidylcholine to cholesterol was 9:1 respectively. Interferon-alpha-liposome size determined by the particle size analyzer was 80.8+/-36 nm and the encapsulation efficiency was 59.0+/-3.3%. CONCLUSION The powder bed grinding method can be used to prepare pro-liposomes which can be easily combined with interferon-alpha-solution to form interferon-alpha-liposomes.

Objective Preoperative autologous blood donation ( PABD) may reduce the need for allogeneic blood , but it may also cause a short massive blood loss in pregnant women , and its fetal and maternal safety has to be adequately assessed .This study was to evaluate the feasibility and safety of PABD for pregnant women and their fetuses . Methods A prospective observational study was conducted among the women who met the inclusion criteria and gave birth in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital between January and December 2013 .According to the clinical validation of risk stratification criteria for peripartum hemorrhage of California 2013 , the ca-ses were classified into a low-, a medium-, and a high-risk group.Data on blood donation procedures , obstetric outcomes, and blood transfusions were collected after delivery for analysis . Results Totally, 92 pregnant women accomplished 115 blood donations .The median volumes of the donated blood were 300, 300, and 400 mL in the low-, medium-, and high-risk groups, respectively ( P>0.001).There were no significant changes in HR , SBP and SpO2 during the blood donation procedures (P>0.05) except for the fall of diastolic blood pressure by an average of 3.4 mmHg (P<0.05) at 5 minutes after blood collection, which was restored to normal later.Non-reassuring fetal heart rate patterns were not found in any of the cases .The levels of HB and HCT were remarkably lower af-ter donation than before it (P<0.05) but restored to normal before delivery in the PABD cases who donated once only (P>0.05), which were similar to those in the cases who donated twice , with no significant differences before and after the donation (P>0.05). Homologous blood transfusion was performed for 5 cases (17.9%) in the high-risk group, with the volume of blood loss >2000 mL in all the cases. All the newborns survived without asphyxia and there was no perinatal death . Conclusion PABD can provide timely autologous whole blood donation for pregnant women .Under strict management , PABD is feasible and safe for pregnant patients who are at a high risk for massive blood loss during delivery or have a rare type of blood no readily available .

Objective To assess the value of 11 C-methionine (MET) PET/CT for the diagnosis of residual or recurrent glioma in comparison to 18 F-FDG PET/CT. Methods Forty-six patients suspected of residual or recurrent glioma underwent both 11 C-MET and 18 F-FDG PET/CT within 5-day interval. The glioma was considered as positive on PET/CT images based on ( 1 ) visual judgment of higher tracer uptake compared with the normal gray matter; (2) semiquantitative analysis of tumor to contralateral normal gray matter (T/G) and contralateral normal white matter (T/W) ratios. The diagnosis was confirmed by stereotsctic biopsy or radiological findings of MRI or CT and clinical follow-up ( >6 months). The Chi-square test and paired t test were used for statistical analysis. Results Residual or recurrent glioma was confirmed in 36 patients. The sensitivity, specificity, accuracy of 11C-MET and 18F-FDG PET/CT were 94.4% (34/36) vs 47.2% (17/36), 90.0% (9/10) vs 100% (10/10), 93.5% (43/46) va 58.7% (27/46) (x2 =19. 429, 1. 053, 15. 294, P <0.001, >0.05, <0.001 ), respectively. The T/G and T/W ratios of residual/recurrent giloma by 11 C-MET were significantly higher than those by 18 F-FDG (T/G ratio: 1.68 ± 0.23 vs 1.13 ±0.51, t = 5. 877, P < 0. 001; T/W ratio: 2.52 ± 0.28 vs 1.42 ± 0. 57, t = 10. 470, P <0. 001 ). Conclusion 11 C-MET PET/CT is more sensitive and accurate than 18 F-FDG PET/CT for the detection of residual or recurrent glioma.
