International Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2011;34(2):86-90
Objective To analyse the variability of spontaneous firing frequencies and firing patterns of a Hippocampal CA1 neuron with the changes of extracellular potassium concentration[K+]0 and ion channel conductance. Methods A 16-compartment cable model of a Hippocampal CA1 neuron was developed based on the Warman model with computer software MATLAB.The dendrites contained no active channels, while five active channels (INa,INap,IDR,IA,IM)were contained in soma.In the model, the calcium currents and potassium currents(ICm,,ICT and IAHP) regulated by calcium concentration were not included.ResultsSimulation results showed that the neuron could generate periodicspontaneous firing activity. The spiking frequency increased with the increasing of[K+]0 and sodium conductance and decreasing of potassium conductance.Spontaneous single neuron activity appeared in singlet or in grouped bursts of two or three spikes. Conclusion The variability of spontaneous firing frequencies and firing patterns of single neuron are relevant to[K+]0 and ion channel conductance.
2.Different removable partial dentures for dentition defects: denture inplace rate and biocompatibility
Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2015;19(16):2593-2597
BACKGROUND:In recent years, commonly used removable partial denture materials include Vitalium200 material, cobalt-chromium aloys and titanium materials. OBJECTIVE:To explore the value of different removable partial dentures in the repair of dentition defects. METHODS: Ninety cases of dentition defects, including 45 males and 45 females, aged 20-57 years old, were subject to removable partial denture repair. Among them, 30 cases were treated with Vitalium2000 removable partial dentures, 30 cases with titanium removable partial dentures, and 30 cases with cobalt-chromium removable partial denture. Denture inplace rate, incidence rates of denture stomatitis, periodontal disease and secondary caries, patient satisfaction self-evaluation were compared between three groups within 2 years after implantation. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Vitalium2000 material group was superior to pure titanium and cobalt-chromium aloy groups in the denture inplace rate, incidence rates of denture stomatitis, periodontal disease and secondary caries (P < 0.05). Patients in the Vitalium2000 material group were more satisfied with lightweight and comfort, aesthetics, chewing ability, odor degree of removable partial dentures than those in the other two groups (P < 0.05). These findings suggest that Vitalium2000 removable partial dentures can better improve the denture in place rate, reduce the incidence of denture stomatitis, periodontal disease and secondary caries, ensuring the comfort level and aesthetics of dentures.

Objective The purpose of the present study was to examine the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of the impulsive-premeditated aggression scale (IPAS) in a sample of Chinese adolescents with aggression. Methods 126 adolescents completed the IPAS,Barratt impulsive scale and self-report questionnaires. In order to assess test-retest reliability, the IPAS was re-administered to 30 participants 3 weeks later. Results Item analysis showed that IPAS had satisfactory item discrimination, 6 items were excluded in the later analysis. The internal consistency of the IPAS Cronbach alpha was 0.77 and the test-retest reliability was 0.74.Exploratory factor analysis demonstrated two stable factors of aggression with good internal consistency and construct validity, the value of KMO was 0.646, the χ2 value of Bartlett test was 691.93 ( P <0.001). The confirmatory factor analysis showed that the value of χ2/df,GFI,AGFI,RMSEA were 1.42,0.874,0.837 and 0.058 respectively. The whole scale and the two secondly scales all correlated with BIS-11 and MOAS.Conclusion The results of the current study indicate that the Chinese version of the IPAS is a useful tool to subtyping aggressive behavior among adolescents, but it still need to be modified to apply in China.

Objective To study the effect of estradiol supplementation during the luteal phase on mouse endometrial expression of leukaemia inhibitory factor and pinopodes in controlled ovarian stimulation cycles. Methods Female mice were randomly divided into four groups:group A[controlled ovarian stimulation(COS)group],group B(COS group with progesterone for luteal-phase-support),group C(COS group with progesterone and estradiol for luteal-phase-support),and group D of natural cycle group.Pinopodes were investigated by scanning electronic microscopy(SEM)in the uterine endometrium of pregnant mice on pregnancy days(pa)3-5.LEukaemia inhibitory factor(LIF)protein Was determined by immunohistochemistry in the uterine endometrium of pregnant mice on pd 3-5.Results (1)In groups B,C,and D,there were small developed pinopodes in the endometrial surface of pregnant mouse on day 3;there were large fully developed pinopodes in endometrial surface, which Was smooth with well defined borders resembling a mushroom on day 4.The regressing pinopodes were observed on day 5.In group A,there were small developed pinopodes in endometrial surface of pregnant mouse on day 3.The regressing pinopodes were seen on day 4.(2)In the pregnant mice of groups C and D,the level of LIF protein on days 3-5 ( 138.5±20. 3,143.1±19. 0) was significantly higher than group A ( 103. 2 ± 5.0, P < 0. 05 ), and strong immunostaining of LIF protein was found on day 4 of gestation. In group B, the level of LIF protein on days 3-5 ( 123.5±10. 8)was significantly higher than group A (P <0. 05), but significantly lower than groups C and D ( P <0. 05 ). Strong immunostaining of LIF protein was found on day 4 of gestation. In group A, weak immunostaining of LIF protein peaked on day 3 of gestation. In groups B, C, and D, the level of LIF protein on day 4 was significantly higher than group A on day 3 ( F = 55.76, P < 0. 01 ). Conclusions Estradiol supplementation during the luteal phase can improve the expression of LIF and pinopodes in mouse endometrium in controlled ovarian stimulation cycles and redress the harmful effect on implantation window by COS. Therefore, estradiol supplementation can improve the endometrial receptivity.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effects of electroacupuncture (EA) at "Dazhui" (GV 14) on Wnt-β-catenin signal pathway in annulus fibrosus cells in intervertebral disc in rats with cervical spondylosis.
METHODSForty SD rats were randomized into a control group, a model group, an EA group and a medication group, 10 rats in each one. Rats in the control group were treated with sham operation, only incision on local skin; rats in the remaining groups were made into cervical spondylosis models. After model establishment, rats in the control group and model group received fixed treatment under identical condition; rats in the EA group were treated with EA at "Dazhui" (GV 14), 30 min per treatment; rats in the medication group were treated with intragastric administration of meloxicam tablets. Treatments were both given once a day, and 14 days were taken as one session; there was an interval of 2 days between two sessions, and totally two sessions were given. After the treatments, immunohistochemistry was applied to measure the expression of Wnt, glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) and Axin in annulus fibrosus cells; western blot was used to test the expression of P-β-catenin.
RESULTSIn the control group, there were more positive cells of Wnt, GSK-3β and Axin, which were intensively distributed, deeply colored, and strongly positive; In the model group, there were less positive cells of Wnt, GSK-3β and Axin, which were sparsely distributed and weakly positive. The expression of Wnt, GSK-3β, Axin and P-β-catenin in the model group was less than that in the control group (all P < 0.05); expression of Wnt, GSK-3β, Axin and P-β-catenin in the EA group and medication group was higher than that in the model group (all P < 0.05); expression of Wnt, GSK-3β, Axin and P-β-catenin was not significantly different between EA group and medication group (all P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONEA could delay the degeneration of intervertebral disc, which may be related to EA inhibiting signal pathway of Wnt-β-catenin.
