Objective To observe the treatment difference of using acupiont application alone, pricking Sifeng (EX-UE10) alone, and combination of the two therapies in treating infantile chronic cough. Method Ninety patients were randomized into 3 groups (acupoint application group, pricking Sifeng group, and a combining group), 30 in each group. Same points were selected for the three groups:Feishu (BL13), Pishu (BL20), Shenshu (BL23), and Sifeng (EX-UE 10). By follow-up research of the symptom scale, the therapeutic efficacies were compared. Result The total effective rate was 83.3%in the acupoint application group, 80.0%in the pricking Sifeng (EX-UE 10) group, and 93.3%in the combining group;meanwhile, the symptom scores were significantly changed after intervention in all three groups (P<0.05). Conclusion Separate use and combining use of acupoint application and pricking Sifeng (EX-UE 10) all can improve the condition of infantile chronic cough, while the combining use can produce a significantly higher therapeutic efficacy, thus it’s a safe, effective, and easy-to-operate external treatment in traditional Chinese medicine.

The silk gland of silkworm is the organ of silk protein synthesis and secretion. According to the morphological and functional differences, silk gland can be divided into anterior silk gland (ASG), middle silk gland (MSG) and posterior silk gland (PSG). ASG is the place for silk proteins conformation changes although it cannot synthetize silk proteins. ASG has narrow luminal structures and rigid wall which consists of chitin and cuticle proteins so that it can provide the shearing force which plays an important role in the silk protein conformation changes. The objective of this study is to identify the new chitin binding proteins in ASG of silkworm (Bombyx mori), and to analyze their expression patterns in different tissues. We identified a cuticle protein with chitin binding domain Bml1721 (GenBank Accession No. NM-001173285.1) by chitin affinity chromatography column. We also expressed the recombinant protein as inclusion body using the prokaryotic expression system, and then successfully purified the recombinant protein by nickel affinity chromatography column to generate the polyclonal antibodies. The expression patterns analysis in various tissues showed that both in transcriptional and protein levels Bm11721 was specifically expressed in ASG. Furthermore, the expression level of Bm 11721 protein was unchanged during the 5th instar. Immunofluorescence analysis revealed that Bm1 1721 was located in the ASG inner membrane. It is proposed that Bm11721 is a component of inner membrane and probably provides the shearing force for conformational changes.

Objective :
To investigate the characteristics of mortality of falls among the elderly in Haishu District, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, so as to provide insights into the improvement of fall control strategy.
Methods:
Data pertaining to surveillance of falls in Haishu District from 2017 to 2022 were collected from the Ningbo Municipal Digital Disease Prevention and Control Platform. The trends in mortality of falls in Haishu District from 2017 to 2022 were evaluated using annual percent change (APC). The distribution of demographic characteristics, locations of falls, injury sites, interval from fall occurrence to death and type of falls specified by age were descriptively analyzed.
Results:
A total of 1 206 deaths occurred due to falls among the elderly at ages of 60 years and older in Haishu District from 2017 to 2022, including 414 men and 612 women, with a male to female ratio of 0.67∶1. The average age was (85.20±8.42) years. The average annual crude mortality and standardized mortality of were 101.10/105 and 85.40/105 from 2017 to 2022, respectively, with no obvious changing trends (APC=5.797% and 5.337%, all P>0.05). The standardized death rate of falls in females was higher than that of males (102.60/105 vs. 69.55/105, P<0.05). The average annual mortality of falls appeared a tendency towards a rise with age among the elderly at ages of 60 years and older, with the highest mortality of 147.18/105 seen in the elderly at ages of 85 years and older. Falls predominantly occurred at home (836 cases, 81.48%) and on the same level (881 cases, 85.87%). The injury sites were mainly lower limbs (388 cases, 37.82%) and head (308 cases, 30.02%). In addition, the interval from fall occurrence to death mainly ranged from 24 hours to 6 months (757 cases, 73.79%).
Conclusion
The mortality of falls appeared a tendency towards a rise with age among the elderly at ages of 60 years and older in Haishu District from 2017 to 2022, which was higher in women than in men. The location of falls was predominantly at home and the type of falls predominantly at the same level. High attention to residential environments, and reinforcement of gender- and age-specific interventions are recommended.

Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2017;35(11):1030-1034
Background The deposition of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) in lens is the risk factor of diabetic complications.Researches revealed that AGEs has autofluorescence.Crystallin is a longevity protein.AGEs accumulation is probably associated with diabetic retinopathy (DR).Objective This study was to evaluate the association of AGEs autofluorescence intensity with diabetes and with DR.Methods A cross-sectional study was carried out under the approval of Ethic Committee of Shenyang He Eye Hospital and informed consent of each patient. One hundred eyes of 100 patients with age-related cataract aged 50-70 years were included in He Eye Hospital from September to December 2015.The patients were divided into non-diabetes group (40 patients) and diabetes group (60 patients),and then the patients in diabetes group were subdivided into non-DR (NDR) group,non-proliferating DR (NPDR) group and proliferating DR (PDR) group according to the DR grading criteria,20 patients for each.Glycosylated henoglobin A1c (HbA1c) and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) were detected for each subject, and the lens autofluorescence was assayed with lens fluorescence biomicroscope (Clearpath DS120).The association of lens autofluorescence intensity with serum HbA1c level or DR severity was analyzed. Results The age and diabetes course were matched among the non-diabetes group,NDR group,NPDR group and PDR group (F=2.587,2.899,both at P>0.05),and the FBS and HbA1c level were evidently higher in the NDR group,NPDR group and PDR group than those in the non-diabetes group (all at P<0.01).The autofluorescence intensity of lens was (0.159±0.032),(0.256±0.024),(0.319 ±0.013) and (0.394±0.035) cd in the non-diabetes group,NDR group,NPDR group and PDR group, respectively, showing a significant difference among the groups (F =90.265,P =0.000).The autofluorescence intensity of lens in the NDR group,NPDR group and PDR group was significantly increased in comparison with the non-diabetes group and the autofluorescence intensity of lens was gradually increased with the severity of DR (all at P<0.01).A positive linear correlation was found between autofluorescence intensity of lens and serum HbA1 c level in diabetes patients (r =0.654,P < 0.05).Conclusions The autofluorescence intensity of AGEs in lens appears to be associated with the severity of DR and HbA1 c.The autofluorescence intensity of AGEs in the lens of diabetes patient is probably one of the evaluation indexes of early stage of DR.
