Objective The purpose of this study was to determine if recombinant ?-defensin-2 can prevent the lung from being injured by pseudomonas aeruginosa infection. Methods Ten male SD rats ( class SPF) weighing 250-300 g were randomly divided into 2 groups ( n = 5 each) : I defensin group and II control group. The animals were anesthetized with intraperitoneal thiopental 10 mg? kg-1 and intubated. 50 ? l of 5 ? 107 PFU? ml-1 adenovirus with or without ?-defensin-2 gene was instilled into the trachea via tracheal tube. 48 h later 200 ? l of 6? 108 CFU?ml-1 pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC27853 was instilled into the trachea in both groups. All the rats were killed after 24 h and the lungs were removed for (1) histologic examination, (2) determination of ICAM-1 expression in the lung and (3) broncho-alveolar lavage. The number of WBC and pseudomonas aeruginosa in broncho-alveolar lavage fluid (BALF) was counted. Results The number of WBC and pseudomonas aeruginosa in BALF was significantly less in defensin group than in control group. The degree of instologic damage and the expression of ICAM-1 in lung tissue were significantly decreased in the defensin group as compared with control group. Conclusion Recombinant ?-defensin-2 can kill pseudomonas aeruginosa in vivo and modulate the expression of ICAM-1. It can protect the lung against injury induced by pseudomonas aeruginosa infection.

Objective To study the effect of p38MAPK on the activity and c-myc protein expression in rat acetaldehyde-induced hepatic stellate cell(HSC),and to investigate the alcoholic liver fibrosis related mechanism. Methods The different concentrations of SB203580 as the p38 specific blocker was adopted to conduct the intervention on rat acetaldehyde-induced HSC.The cellular mor-phological change was observed by the microscope. The cell proliferation was detected by MTT,the cell cycle was analyzed by flow cytometry(FCM),and the expression of c-myc protein was examined by the SABC method. Results (1)after acetaldehyde stimula-tion,HSC was increased in size and proliferated rapidly, but with the added SB203580 concentration increase, the cellular prolifera-tion was slowed down, the cells size was diminished and the deformed cells were increased.(2)The proliferation of acetaldehyde-in-duced HSC was inhibited by different doses of SB203580,and the higher concentration has the more significant inhibiting effect.(3) With the SB203580 concentration increase, the cells at the phase G0 and G1 were increased, while the cells at the phase S were de-creased,at the same time the expression positive rate of c-myc protein was decreased. Conclusion Blocking p38MAPK pathway ac-tivity could inhibit the proliferation of acetaldehyde-induced HSC,which may be related to the down-regulation of C-myc protein ex-pression and blocking the DNA synthesis in cells entering from G0/G1 phase to S phase.

Objective To establish an accurate method for estimating the indoor gamma dose rate from decorative stones. Methods Combining a room model with decorating conditions, the gamma dose rates and dose rate conversion factors (DCF) at 1 m above the floor in the room center were calculated with the Monte Carlo simulations, and the calculation results were verified through experiments.Based on the results, the limit of radionuclide contents in stone materials was further discussed. Results The DCF increases with the increase of area or thickness of decorative stones in the same room. The increase of DCF with the thickness of decorative stone is approximately linear. The DCF also increases with the area of decorative stones, but the increasing trend slows down. For the same decorative stones, the smaller the room, the larger the increase of gamma dose rate.Experimental results were consistent with the simulation results within ± 20%.Conclusions The increase of indoor gamma dose rate depends not only on the radionuclide contents, but also on the area and thickness of the decorative stones as well as the room size. The method used in this study can be used to estimate, more accurately than ever, the additional external exposure to residents due to decorative stones, and it provides a theoretical basis for revising the limit standard on radionuclide contents in decorative materials.

Objective To investigate the association of restriction fragment length polymorphisms (RFLP) in p.S267F of SLC10A1 gene with clinical outcomes of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Methods Clinical data of 1 268 patients with HBV infections admitted in Public Health Clinical Center Affiliated to Fudan University during July 2014 and February 2015 were collected.Polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism ( PCR-RFLP) method was used to genotype the p .S267F of SLC10A1 gene in all patients, and the potential association between variants in p .S267F of SLC10A1 gene and the clinical outcomes of HBV infection was analyzed .Results Among 1 268 patients with HBV infections, 1 226 were of genotype CC, and 42 were of genotype CT, so the variation rate in p.S267F was 3.31%(42/1 268).Compared with patients with genotype CC , patients with genotype CT had a higher incidence of acute HBV infections (13.6%vs.28.6%,χ2 =19.819, P<0.05) and a lower incidence of HBV-related liver cirrhosis or hepatocellular carcinoma (13.9% vs.4.8%, χ2 =18.945, P <0.05). Conclusion RFLP in p.S267F of SLC10A1 gene may be associated with chronicity and aggravation of HBV infection, and genotype CT is possibly a protective factor .

Interferon and nucleotide/nucleoside analogues are currently widely used in the management of chronic hepatitis B virus ( HBV) infections, but are facing problems such as poor sustained virologic response, low HBsAg clearance rate and a high risk of recurrence after drug withdraw.Exploring new target of anti-HBV agent has become a hot topic in recent years. This paper reviews the research progress on new anti-HBV targets and related drugs.

International Eye Science 2016;16(7):1329-1331
AIM: To investigate the clinical effect of vitamin B12 eye drops for vision fatigue caused by visual display terminals (VDT).
METHODS: Totally 50 patients (100 eyes) with vision fatigue caused by VDT were averagely divided into two groups. The control group were treated with normal saline, the treatment group were treated with vitamin B12 eye drops, 3 times per day, one drop each time, continuous for 60d. Accommodative parameters and Schirmer Ⅰtest were measured and analyzed before and after treatment.
RESULTS: After treatment, the results of Schirmer Ⅰtest, accommodative amplitude and accommodative facility of the treatment group were higher than those of the control group ( all P < 0. 05 ). And the results of accommodation lag of the treatment group were lower than those of the control group (P<0. 05).
CONCLUSION: Vitamin B12 eye drops can lessen symptoms of dry eye, improve accommodative function and treat vision fatigue caused by VDT.

BACKGROUND:Due to the puncture and difficult reduction, severe vertebral compressive fracture is considered to be the relative contraindication of vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the vertebra reduction after the treatment of severe vertebral compressive fractures with percutaneous kyphoplasty. METHODS:Thirty patients (42 vertebral bodies) with severe compressive fractures were included. The compressive rate of the affected vertebral bodies was 75%-83%. The direction of percutaneous puncture was guided under digital subtraction angiography, and then postural reduction and local kyphoplasty were performed. After satisfactory reduction, bone cement was injected. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Al the 30 patients tolerated procedure wel . The mean height of the anterior, mid and posterior vertebral body was improved from (0.48±0.17) cm, (0.83±0.23) cm and (2.44±0.33) cm preoperatively to (0.71±0.22) cm, (1.21±0.25) cm and (2.44±0.33) cm respectively after operation. The postoperative height of the anterior, mid and posterior vertebral body was significantly higher than that before operation. The visual analogue scale score after treatment was significantly lower than that before operation. The results indicate that percutaneous kyphoplasty can ease pain, restore vertebral body height and improve quality of life of the patients with severe vertebral compressive fractures.
