AIM: To evaluate visual outcome and wearing times in eyes fitted with a rigid gas permeable contact lenses and to assess the role of these lenses in therapeutic contact lens practice.METHODS: Patients fitted with RGP from May 2004 to December 2005 were retrospectively reviewed. Ocular diagnosis, flat and steep curvatures by corneal topography. The data included initial base curve, power, and the number of changes made in parameters during the follow-up. The outcome data included visual acuity and the duration of follow-up and lens wear. Complications and complaints were also noted.RESULTS: Forty-Three eyes of 25 patients had keratoconus were reviewed. The mean age of patients was 19.88 ±3.11years. 26 (60.5%)eyes achieved 20/20 visual acuity;15(34.9%) eyes achieved 20/25 to 20/40; and 1 (2.3%) eyes achieved 20/50 to 20/70. 37 (86.0%) eyes achieved visual improvement. No infection or neovascularization was noted; a corneal abrasion occurred in one eye.CONCLUSION: RGP may be a better alternative in selected patients with keratoconus rather than penetrating keratoplasty.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of fast track surgery in laparoscopic gastrectomy for gastric cancer. Methods: All patients received elective gastric cancer resection, and were divided into three groups: group Ⅰ (open gastrecomy, n = 30) , group Ⅱ (open gastrecomy with fast track surgery, n = 30) , and group Ⅲ (laparoscopic gastrecomy with fast track surger-y ,n =30) . Clinical data and gut function were assessed in three groups. Results: There were no significant differences in postoperative complication and the number of lymph node harvest between 3 groups. Blood loss was less in group Ⅲ than group Ⅰ and group Ⅱ (P <0.01) ,but its operative time was longer and its cost was more than other two open surgery groups (P < 0. 01). Recovery of bowel function in group Ⅲ was faster, and postoperative hospital stay was shorter than group Ⅰ (P<0.01). However, recovery of bowel function and postoperative hospital stay in group Ⅲ was not different from group Ⅱ (P > 0. 05). Conclusion: Postoperative hospital stay can be shorter and recovery of bowel function can be faster in laparoscopic gastrectomy with fast track surgery plan compared to traditional care group. But when using fast track surgery plan, laparoscopic gastrectomy was not superior to open surgery.

OBJECTIVETo determine the exact location of the opening of the ejaculatory duct in men and provide some basic anatomical evidence for seminal vesiculoscopy and the treatment of ejaculatory duct obstruction.
METHODSWe performed ureterocystoscopy for 21 male patients aged 26 - 47 years with hematuria (n = 12), hematospermia (n = 2), glandular cystitis (n = 6), and anejaculation after radical resection of rectal carcinoma (n = 1), and meanwhile, with the consent of the patients, massaged the prostate and ejaculatory duct and observed the outlet of the expelled fluid. Under the microscope, we described the fluid samples with sperm as the expulsion from the ejaculatory duct.
RESULTSUreterocystoscopy showed that the exact anatomical sites of the expulsion of prostatic fluid and semen in the patients were the side and lower side of the prostatic utricle opening above the verumontanum and the ventral side of the verumontanum. Quantities of sperm were found in the expulsion fluid of 13 of the patients, and no expulsion, including semen, was seen from the prostatic utricle opening.
CONCLUSIONAnatomically, the ejaculatory duct openings of males are located at the two sides of the verumontanum adjacent to the opening of the prostatic utricle, rather than in the prostatic utricle above the verumontanum.
