1.Analysis of capabilities of microscopic examinations of Plasmodium in Dongxihu District,Wuhan City

Objective To investigate and analyze the capabilities of Plasmodium microscopic examinations in medical and health organizations in Dongxihu District,Wuhan City,so as to provide evidences for achieving the standard of malaria elimina?tion and malaria control in the future. Methods The basic information of the laboratorians and the hardware facilities in 15 mi?croscopic examination stations of Plasmodium were collected and analyzed from 2010 to 2015. Meanwhile,the quality of mak?ing,dyeing,cleanliness of all the negatives blood smears were evaluated,and all the positive smears were re?checked in the dis?trict during the period above mentioned. Results Totally,there were 28 laboratorians and 9 qualified microscopes in 15 micros?copy stations in Dongxihu District. The age of the laboratorians in the first?level and third?level organizations was mainly from 40 to 50 years old,but the age of those in the second?level organizations was from 20 to 30 years old. The years for microscopic ex?amination working of most of the laboratorians in the first?level and third?level organizations were more than 15 years,while the working years of those in the second?level organizations were mainly less than 10 years. The education level of the laboratorians in the first?level organization was mainly(50.00%)junior college,while the education levels of those in the second and third or?ganizations were mainly bachelor. From 2010 to 2015,8 561 blood smears were produced and 539 of them were reviewed,the co?incidence rates of review were all 100%,and the average qualified rates of making,dyeing,and cleanliness of the negative blood smears were 82.08%,79.92%and 83.33%,respectively. All the rates mentioned above in 2015 were higher than those in 2010(χ2=26.45,16.85,13.93,all P<0.01). Conclusion The capability of microscopic examinations of Plasmodium has improved obviously in Dongxihu District,but the human resources construction and hardware input in this district should be im?proved,meanwhile,the check on the quality control of microscopic examinations of Plasmodium should be continued,so as to guarantee the sustainable and healthy development of malaria control work in this district.
2.Testing of tuberculosis infection among Chinese adolescents born after terminating the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin booster vaccination: subgroup analysis of a population-based cross-sectional study

The prevalence of tuberculosis infection among adolescents born after terminating the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) booster vaccination in China was estimated using tuberculin skin testing (TST) and QuantiFERON-TB Gold assay (QFT) to investigate the influence of neonatal BCG vaccination on the performance of TST.Data analysis was conducted for 2831 eligible participants aged 5-15 years from the baseline survey of a population-based multi-center prospective study.The prevalence rates of TST (induration ≥ 10 mm) and QFT positivity were 9.3% (264/2827) and 2.5% (71/2831),respectively.The rate of QFT indeterminate result was 2.2% (62/2831).The overall agreement between TST and QFT was low (concordance =88.0%;K coefficient =0.125).Only TST was positively associated with BCG vaccination with an adjusted odds ratio of 1.71 [95% confidence interval,1.26-2.31].A history of close contact with patients of active TB was significantly associated with positivity for TST and QFT.Our results suggested that BCG neonatal vaccination still affects TST performance,and a two-step approach might be considered for TB infection testing among adolescents in China.
3.SMARCA2 deficiency in NSCLC: a clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical analysis of a large series from a single institution.

BACKGROUND:
SMARCA2 (SWI/SNF Related, Matrix Associated, Actin Dependent Regulator of Chromatin, Subfamily A, Member 2) is an important ATPase catalytic subunit in the switch-sucrose nonfermenting (SWI/SNF) complex. However, its relationship with the pathological features of NSCLC and its prognosis remain unclear.
METHODS:
We retrospectively reviewed 2390 patients with surgically resected NSCLC, constructed tissue microarrays (TMAs) and performed immunohistochemical assays. We analyzed the correlation of SAMRCA2 with clinicopathological features and evaluated its prognostic value.
RESULTS:
Among 2390 NSCLC cases, the negative expression ratios of SAMRCA2, SMARCA4, ARID1A, ARID1B and INI1 were 9.3%, 1.8%, 1.2%, 0.4% and 0%, respectively. In NSCLC, male sex, T3 and T4 stage, moderate and poor differentiation, tumor ≥ 2 cm, Ki67 ≥ 15%, SOX-2 negative expression, middle lobe lesion and adenocarcinoma were relative risk factors affecting SMARCA2-negative expression. In lung adenocarcinomas, high-grade nuclei, histological morphology of acinar and papillary, solid and micropapillary and TTF-1-negative expression were relative risk factors affecting SMARCA2-negative expression. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that the OS was shorter in the SMARCA2-negative group. Multivariate survival analysis revealed that SMARCA2-negative expression was an independent factor correlated with a poor prognosis in NSCLC.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, SMARCA2-negative expression is an independent predictor of a poor outcome of NSCLC and is a potential target for NSCLC treatment.
