Objective To explore the role of fibrogenic cytokines and inflammatory cytokines in the pathogenesis of frozen shoulder. Methods From September, 2014 to April, 2016, 20 patients with frozen shoulder accepted arthroscopic surgery were included, ten of them were diagnosed as primary frozen shoulder (group A), the other ten were secondary frozen shoulder (group B). Other ten patients undergo-ing shoulder arthroscopy for instability (4 cases), rotator cuff injury (3 cases) and subacromial impingement (3 cases) were as the controls (group C). The mRNA levels of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) 1, MMP3, tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6, IL-8, granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) and M-CSF in synovium were analyzed with quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Results The expression of mRNA of MMP1, MMP3, TNF-α, IL-1, IL-6, IL-8, GM-CSF and M-CSF were more in group A and group B than in group C (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between group A and group B (P>0.05). Conclusion The fibro-genic cytokines and inflammatory cytokines may play a role in the pathogenesis of frozen shoulder.

The complete genome of encephalomyocarditis virus (EMCV)strain GXLC isolated from swine was sequenced and analyzed. Five overlapped gene fragments covering the entire open reading frame (ORF) were amplified by RT-PCR, and the 3'-untranslated region (UTR) and 5'-UTR were amplified by the 3'-rapid amplification of cDNA ends (RACE) and 5'-RACE method, respectively. The genome sequences of strain GXLC were obtained by assembling the sequences of RT-PCR-generated cDNA fragments. The length of the complete genome was 7 725 nucleotides (nt). The homology comparison and phylogenetic analysis of the nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences between strain GXLC and other EMCV strains available in GenBank were performed. The results showed that the complete genome identity between GXLC strain and the strains from China, i.e. GX0601, GX0602, BJC3 and HB1 and the strains from other countries, i.e. CBNU, K3, K11, TEL-2887A, EMCV-R and PV21 was over 99%. The phylogenetic trees based on the complete genome, the structural protein or the non-structural protein gene sequences revealed that the tree topology was similar. All the EMCV strains could be divided into two groups: group I and group II, and group I could be subdivided into subgroup Ia and subgroup Ib. The strains from swine belonged to subgroup Ia or Ib, and the strains from mice belonged to subgroup Ia, while the strains from Sus scro fa belonged to group II. Strain GXLC, together with other EMCV isolates from China, belonged to subgroup Ia.

BACKGROUNDIn-hospital medical complications are associated with poorer clinical outcomes for stroke patients after disease onset. However, few studies from China have reported the effect of these complications on the mortality of patients with acute ischemic stroke. In this prospective work, the China National Stroke Registry Study, we investigated the effect of medical complications on the case fatality of patients with acute ischemic stroke.
METHODSFrom September 2007 to August 2008, we prospectively obtained the data of patients with acute stroke from 132 clinical centers in China. Medical complications, case fatality and other information recorded at baseline, during hospitalisation, and at 3, 6, and 12 months after stroke onset. Multivariable Logistic regression was performed to analyze the effect of medical complications on the case fatality of patients with acute ischemic stroke.
RESULTSThere were 39 741 patients screened, 14 526 patients with acute ischemic stroke recruited, and 11 560 ischemic stroke patients without missing data identified during the 12-month follow-up. Of the 11 560 ischemic patients, 15.8% (1826) had in-hospital medical complications. The most common complication was pneumonia (1373; 11.9% of patients), followed by urinary tract infection and gastrointestinal bleeding. In comparison with patients without complications, stroke patients with complications had a significantly higher risk of death during their hospitalization, and at 3, 6 and 12 months post-stroke. Having any one in-hospital medical complication was an independent risk factor for death in patients with acute ischemic stroke during hospital period (adjusted OR = 6.946; 95%CI 5.181 to 9.314), at 3 months (adjusted OR = 3.843; 95%CI 3.221 to 4.584), 6 months (adjusted OR = 3.492; 95%CI 2.970 to 4.106), and 12 months (adjusted OR = 3.511; 95%CI 3.021 to 4.080). Having multiple complications strongly increased the death risk of patients.
CONCLUSIONShort-term and long-term outcomes of acute stroke patients are affected by in-hospital medical complications.

To investigate the effect of ginseng neutral polysaccharide on gut microbiota composition and diversity as well as the therapeutic effect for antibiotic associated diarrhea( AAD) in mice. The water-soluble ginseng neutral polysaccharide( WGPN) was purified from water-soluble ginseng polysaccharides( WGP) by DEAE-sepharose fast flow column, which was obtained from the roots of Panax ginseng. AAD mice were induced by gastric gavage with lincomycin hydrochloride, followed by administration of normal saline( natural recovery group,NR) or WGPN( WGPN group) for one week. Body weight changes, psychosis and diarrhea status were observed and assessed. 12 h after the last administration, histological observation of ileum and 16 S rRNA high throughput sequencing analysis of intestinal contents were conducted to identify the effects of WGPN on AAD mice. The results showed that WGPN could alleviate the symptoms of diarrhea in mice, decrease the inflammation and edema of ileum, and increase the length of intestinal villi. As compared to NR mice,WGPN could increase the relative abundance of Lactobacillus, and significantly decrease the relative abundance of Bacteroides,Streptococcus,Ochrobactrum and Pseudomonas at the genus level. In conclusion,WGPN could improve the gut microecology by recovering the ileum structure and improving the diversity and composition of the gut microbiota in AAD mice.

Objective To validate the accuracy and reliability of structured-light three-dimensional (SL-3D) scanning in measuring the length and area of the regular and irregular scars on body surface and discuss its value in forensic practice. Methods The lengths of 30 cases of simulated linear scars and 50 cases of linear scars after injury were measured using soft ruler, vernier caliper + thin line method, and SL-3D scanning. The areas of 35 cases of simulated patchy scars and 15 cases of patchy scars after injury were measured using length × width, film tracing with coordinate paper method, pixel method, and SL-3D scanning, and then statistically analyzed. Results The differences between the length of the simulated linear scars measured by SL-3D scanning and standard length had no statistical significance. When simulated patchy scars and patchy scars after injury were measured with high surface curvature and large irregular areas, the differences between the results of SL-3D scanning measurement and the standard area had no statistical significance. When the length of 50 cases of linear scars after injury were measured using SL-3D scanning, the correlation coefficient between the measurement results of two different investigators was 0.998, and the correlation coefficient between the two measurement results by the same investigator was 1.000. The correlation coefficient between the results of SL-3D scanning and that of vernier caliper + thin line method was 0.996. Conclusion The three-dimensional information of the scars on the body surface can be acquired using SL-3D scanning. The measurement of the length and area of the scars is not influenced by the location of scars, curvature of surface, and human factors. The measurement results are accurate, reliable and has unique advantages.

Chitinases(EC3.2.1.14), which are present in various organisms, catalyze the hydrolytic cleavage of chitin and play a vital role in plant defense mechanisms against fungal pathogens. In addition, the chitinases are well known to regulate plant growth and development and are involved in programmed cell death(PCD).A chitinase expressed sequence tag(EST) was isolated from Panax notoginseng, and the full-length cDNA of this EST was cloned with the method of rapid amplification of cDNA ends and named as PnCHI1. PnCHI1 was 1 022 bp in length and contained an intact open reading frame(ORF) of 822 bp, a 26 bp 5'-untranslated region(UTR), and a 174 bp 3'-UTR.The predicted protein of PnCHI1 with 273 amino acid residues belongs to glycoside hydrolase family 19 and fell into the class IV of chitinases through phylogenetic analysis.QRT-PCR analysis showed that the expression of PnCHI1 was induced by methyl jasmonate, ethylene, H2O2, and salicylic acid.PnCHI1 was quickly induced after inoculation with Alternaria panax. Moreover, the expression level of PnCHI1 was increased after pretreatment with methyl jasmonate, and then the transcription level of PnCHI1was sharp increased after inoculation with Fusarium solani, and the highest transcription level was achieved at 4 h post inoculation. But the expression level of PnCHI1 in the sterile water pretreated P.notoginseng was increased gradually after inoculation with F.solani, and the highest expression level was achieved at 48 h post inoculation. All the results of present study indicated that PnCHI1 was involved in defense response of P.notoginseng against the F.solani and A.panax.

Objective: To analyze the influencing factors of healthy life expectancy (HLE). Methods: Seven Chinese and English databases were used for the retrieval of related literatures published by May 7, 2022 to identify influencing factors of HLE, including diseases and injuries and their risk factors. Based on the ecological model of health determinants, this study classifies the risk factors of diseases and injuries into five levels: personal characteristics, individual behavior and lifestyle, social network, living and working conditions, and macroscopic socio-economic, cultural and environmental conditions. Contents of research area, HLE indicators, research population, influencing factors, data sources and results were extracted. The frequencies of reported documents of different HLE indicators and influencing factors of different dimensions were visualized by using evidence map, and the empirical studies of four authoritative English medical journals and Chinese core medical journals were further compared and described. Results: A total of 90 studies were selected, in which 26 were conducted in China (28.9%). Fifty-three studies are about diseases and injuries in the first dimension, and all of them have studied non-communicable diseases, accounting for the highest proportion (58.9%). There were 77 studies about the analysis on the determinants of health at five levels by an ecological model, all the studies reported multi-level results. Among them, 53 studies reported personal characteristics (58.9%), 47 studies reported individual behavior and lifestyle (52.2%), 10 studies reported social networks (11.1%), 35 studies reported living and working environment (38.9%), 8 studies reported social economy, culture status and environment condition (8.9%). The literatures about HLE published by 4 authoritative English medical journals and 21 Chinese core medical journals in recent three years were selected. Non-communicable diseases and personal characteristics were the top two most commonly studied factors of HLE, and 11 (52.3%) and 12 (57.1%) studies reported these two kinds of factors respectively. The most important factor contributing to the global disability-adjusted life years of non-communicable diseases was individual behavior and lifestyle, which was the most changeable factor. Conclusions: In recent three years, studies involving influencing factors of HLE were mainly non-communicable diseases and personal characteristics. In the future, individual behavior, lifestyle and working environment should be strengthened.
