Professor Jin Shi-yuan has been worked in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) over 70 years. He made prominent contributions in identification, processing, dispensing of TCM and reasonable use proprietary Chinese medicine. In over 70 years, he has mastered herbal medicine and traditional Chinese Medicine. It is also professor JIN's academic characteristic. Professor JIN's practical experiences were summarized according to the current situation about clinical medication, change of species of Juhong and Chenpi has been different from species of medical history. The quality is lower than before. Medicinal parts of Danggui, Gancao, Huangqin and Wuyao has been changed. So the actions of these herbal medicines have been changed also. Fresh herbal Qianchangpu has disappeared but it should be used clinically. Medical history, change of species, change of medicinal part, and change of preparing process in professor JIN's academic idea were be summarized periodically. The result is hoped to be referred by administration, manufacture, medical treatment of TCM.

Objectives: The survivors of first-ever stroke are at a high risk of recurrent stroke. The time interval between first-ever stroke and first recurrence of stroke, however, have not been well studied. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the time interval between first-ever and first recurrence of stroke and the risk factors of stroke that were related to the length of time interval. Methods: Patients admitted in our hospitals during 2014 with first recurrence of stroke were included in the study. A total of 377 patients were enrolled and a standardized questionnaire was used to collect data in this retrospective study. Results: The mean time interval among all the subjects was 58.42 months (median, 36.01 months; range 0.16months to 455.98months). The mean time interval was shorter in hemorrhagic stroke group (56.78 months) than in ischemic stroke group (58.75 months), but the difference was not significant (p=0.819). The median of time interval was similar in the two groups. The associated risk factors to the length of time interval were age over 60 years, subtype of first-ever stroke, the length of history of hypertension. Age was the only associated risk factor to the time interval among patients with first recurrence of hemorrhagic stroke. Conclusion: Factors associated with the time interval are different among different types of recurrent stroke. This provides the basis for preventive treatment for recurrent stroke after their first-ever stroke

As an important neurotransmitter, adenosine displays its functions by acting on the adenosine receptors. Recent studies have shown that the distribution, expression and balance among subtypes of adenosine receptors are closely related with cognitive activities, and changes of adenosine receptors play key roles in neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer's disease. It has been pointed out that prolonged activation of adenosine receptors by high level adenosine may lead to the disturbance of balance among adenosine receptor subtypes. This imbalance mainly performed as increased expression of A2a receptor and decreased expression of A1 receptor, and enhancement of the excitatory signals mediated by A2a receptor and weakened inhibitory signals mediated by A1 receptor. Changes of these two subtypes of adenosine receptors may lead to a lot of disorders of neurological activities which developed into dysfunction of cognition to the end. These findings imply that the potential of maintaining the balance among adenosine receptors on the treatment of AD would facilitate both the revealing of the mechanism and the cure of AD.

ABCB11 gene encodes bile salt export pump (BSEP).It is almost exclusively expressed in the canalicular microvilli of liver.It is the principal conveyor of bile acids from hepatocyte cytoplasm into bile canaliculus.It is clearly that BSEP defects can induce progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis type 2 and benign recurrent intrahepatic cholestasis type 2.ABCB11 gene variation are also responsible for intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy,drug-induced cholestasis,primary sclerosis cholangitis and primary bile cirrhosis.This paper reviewed the association of ABCB11 gene variation and these diseases.

According to the designed specific primers of gene fragment based on the Salvia miltiorrhiza transcriptome data, a full-length cDNA sequence of SQS2 from S. miltiorrhiza f. alba was cloned by the method of reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The SmSQS2 cDNA sequence was obtained, this sequence is named SmSQS2 and its GenBank registration number is KM244731. The full length of SmSQS2 cDNA was 1245 bp, encoding 414 amino acids including 5'UTR 115 bp and 3'UTR 237 bp. Sequence alignment and phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that SmSQS2 had relative close relationship to the SQS2 of S. miltiorrhiza. The induction of E. coli [pET28-SQS2] in different temperature, induction time, IPTG concentrations and density of inducing host bacterium (A600) were performed, Shaking the culture at 30 degrees C until the A600 is approximately 0.6 and add IPTG to final concentration of 0.2 mmol x L(-1), and then the optimal expression of SmSQS2 recombinant protein were accumulated after the induction time of 20 h. The research provided important base for the study of sterol and terpene biosynthesis of SQS2 in S. miltiorrhiza f. alba.

A cationic liposome was prepared with a ligand directed at folate receptor in cancer cells to improve selectivity and facilitate its access to the cancer cells. Folate-polyethyleneglycol-distearoylphosphatidylethanolamine (F-PEG-DSPE) was synthesized by reacting folic acid (F), polyoxyethylene-bis-amine (NH2-PEG-NH2), succinic anhydride (SUC) with distearoylphosphatidylethanolamine (DSPE). Folate receptor-targeted liposomes composed of DPPC/DC-Chol/F-PEG-DSPE (10:10:0.75, molar ratio) were prepared by film dispersion method. A negative charged dextran fluorescein anionic (DFA) was used as a model to explore the in vitro properties and cell uptake efficiencies of liposomal DFA on KB and HpeG2 cells. The formulations were investigated by orthogonal experiment using encapsulation efficiency as the optimized indexes. The size, 4 potential, entrapment efficiency and DFA release in vitro were investigated. The results showed that DFA loaded folate receptor-targeted liposomes had high encapsulation efficiency and the mean size approximately 144 nm. The cationic liposomes had some toxicity to HepG2 cells, and at low concentration (0.0125-0.1 micromol x L(-1)) , the toxicity was linear with the concentration of DC-chol. The folate receptor-targeted liposomes showed great effects on increasing liposome cellular uptake of DFA. In summary, the method of film dispersion method is suitable for producing DFA loaded lipsomes with high entrapment efficiency, small size and slow release. The folate receptor-targeted liposomes can efficiently deliver DFA into cells in vitro. This may represent a promising option for researches on cancer gene therapy.
