OBJECTIVEThis study aimed at investigating effects of exogenous interleukine-10 (IL-10) on IL-6 and intercellular adhesion molecular (ICAM-1) expression in inflamed gingival tissue.
METHODSThe expression of IL-6 and ICAM-1 was examined using immunohistochemical techniques. Inflammatory gingival tissue treated with IL-10 was taken as the experimental group and the same patient's inflammatory gingival tissue without treatment of IL-10 was included into the control group.
RESULTSIL-6 expression was found mainly in monocytes, macrophages, lymphocytes, endotheliocytes and fibroblasts. The expression of ICAM-1 was found mainly in epithelial cells, monocot-macrophages, lymphocytes, endotheliocytes and fibroblasts. The immunohistochemical optical density (IOD) of the expression of IL-6 and ICAM-1 was detected by using Image-Proplus software, and the results showed that the expression in the experimental group differed significantly from that in the control group.
CONCLUSIONThe exogenous IL-10 may down-regulate IL-6 and ICAM-1 expression in inflammatory gingival tissue.

ObjectiveTo evaluation the intervention effects of hand hold hands method in brick tea borne fluorosis.MethodFour to six grade pupils were selected in brick tea borne fluorosis areas, and health education knowledge questionnaire investigation was conducted.Drinking tea related health behaviors were also surveyed by the method of questionnaire. Then health education lecture on brick tea borne fluorosis was carried out,and health education material and low fluoride brick tea were provided to the pupils, the students were also requested to tell their parents brick tea related knowledge and supervise them to get rid of harmful drinking tea behavior, and cultivate healthy lifestyle. One year later pupils' health knowledge questionnaire and parents health related behavior questionnaire were carried out once again. The knowledge awareness rates of students before and after the intervention were compared.Health related behavior change rates of the parent between different ages and education levels were compared, and the implementation rates of different brick tea related behaviors before and after the intervention were compared.ResultsAfter 1 year of health education, the student's knowledge awareness rate on brick tea fluorosis was [94.3% (33/35)],compared with the rate before intervertion [14.3% (5/35)] increased significantly(X2 =46.111,P < 0.01 ).The overall behavior change rate of health related behavior was 68.6%.After the intervention, the implementation rate of whether drinking tea, drinking overnight tea, drinking boiled for a long time tea decreased(P < 0.01).But the behavior implementation rates of drinking tea with milk, drinking and buying low fluoride brick tea significantly increased(P < 0.05).Implementation rate of whether drinking brick tea did not change significantly(P > 0.05).ConclusionsThrough hand hold hands health education intervention, the knowledge awareness of students on brick tea fluorosis increases, and their parents can actively change bad tea drinking habits, and cultivate healthy lifestyle.
3.Comparison of clinically used shade guide systems with color range of natural teeth.
Chinese Journal of Stomatology 2008;43(7):422-425
OBJECTIVETo analyze the limitation of currently used shade guide systems comparing with color range of nature teeth.
METHODSDigital pictures of shade guide systems A (VITAPAN Classic), B (VINTAGE Halo), C (3D-MASTER), and 322 central incisors were taken under the same condition as light source of D65 with the observation method of d/0 degrees. The data obtained from nature tooth color were compared with the color range of three shade guide systems mentioned above in items of L * a * b */C * H degrees.
RESULTSThe normal chroma value (95%) of the natural teeth were L* 61.631-73.250, a * -0.719-1.879, and b * 8.701-17.790. Natural tooth colors were different from those of the shade guide system A which color range was narrower, short of red hue, higher values, and unevenly distribution of saturation. On the other hand, the range of red hue increased in shade guide system B while its saturation was slightly high. The color range of shade guide system C was greatest among the three shade guide systems. The saturation and value of shade guide system C covered all varieties of nature teeth measured in this research, but it still lacked red hue comparing to the nature teeth.
CONCLUSIONSComparing the color range of nature teeth, the shade guide systems used in clinic have uneven hue distribution and cannot cover all colors of nature teeth. Generally, all the shade guide systems are lack of the hues which are named under the category of red tone.

4.Circulating test and analysis of clasp retention.
Chinese Journal of Stomatology 2003;38(6):420-422
OBJECTIVETo show the trend of the retention change during the circulation of the clasp dislodging and inserting, and to discuss the proper depth of the undercut for a specific clasp. It is also a basic study for the best designing of RPD.
METHODSThe Chatillon force measuring instrument was used to record the variation of the retention of Co-Cr alloy casting Akers clasp when they were dislodging from undercuts of different depths (0.25 mm, 0.50 mm, 0.75 mm) on bicuspid and molar.
RESULTSThe data was analysed of Correlation and Regression by SPSS 10.0 statistic software. The variations of the retention in the circulation are obvious from the different teeth and different undercut depths. It shows an attenuation trend in circulation (P < 0.01). After 400 times dislodging, in bicuspid group, the retention of the clasp used in 0.50 mm undercut became less than the one used in 0.25 mm undercut. While the retention of the clasp used in 0.75 mm decreases most obviously, it values 0.7670 kg. In molar group, the attenuations of the retention at different depths of undercut are similar, the retentions of the clasp still rank as, from great to less, 0.75 mm, 0.50 mm and 0.25 mm, in the depth of undercut.
CONCLUSIONthe proper depth of the undercut for bicuspid is 0.25 mm, and 0.50 mm for molar.

BACKGROUNDLarge discrepancy of the incidence of myocardial bridging (MB) has been reported either among the postmortem studies or among the studies with coronary angiogram. This study was to investigate the prevalence of MB in large number of coronary angiograms and the angiographic characteristics of MB.
METHODSA total of 5525 consecutive patients who underwent first diagnostic coronary angiography from January 2003 to March 2006 in Zhongshan Hospital were enrolled in this study. MB was diagnosed when the angiographical "milking effect", defined as the systolic compression and complete or partly release of the compression in diastole, was seen in the epicardial coronary arteries. Angiography was routinely repeated after intracoronary injection of 200 microg nitroglycerin. The systolic compression and length of MB were compared before and after the administration of nitroglycerin and also before and after stent implantation in patients with significant stenosis in segment proximal to the MB.
RESULTSAmong 5525 patients, MBs were found in a total of 888 patients angiographically with the prevalence of 16.1%. Atherosclerotic lesions were found more often in the segment proximal to the MB with 344/854 (40.3%) patients than in the segment distal to the MB with 47/854 (5.5%) (P < 0.01). The systolic compression ((43.3 +/- 13.7)% at baseline vs (54.2 +/- 14.0)% after nitroglycerine) and the average length ((20.9 +/- 7.5) mm at baseline vs (22.7 +/- 8.0) mm after nitroglycerine) of the MB segment were increased after intracoronary injection of nitroglycerin (both P < 0.01). Stent implantation was performed in 88 patients with significant stenosis in the segment proximal to the MB. The systolic compression and the length of the MB segment were increased after stenting compared with those before stenting (systolic compression, (49.4 +/- 14.6)% at baseline vs (57.3 +/- 12.3)% after stenting, and length of MB, (19.5 +/- 6.1) mm at baseline vs (21.8 +/- 6.3) mm after stenting, P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONSMB was a frequent finding in coronary angiogram with an incidence of 16.1%. Intracoronary administration of nitroglycerin and stent implantation in the segment proximal to the MB could enhance the systolic compression and the length of the MB angiographically.

OBJECTIVETo study cardiac troponin T (TNNT2) gene mutations in Chinese patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and analyze the correlation between the genotype and phenotype.
METHODSNinety-five unrelated Chinese patients with HCM and 120 control individuals were screened for TNNT2 gene mutations. Seven exons (8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, and 16) in the functional regions of TNNT2 gene were amplified using PCR and the products were sequenced. The patients with positive results underwent further family screening.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSIONThis study did not find any HCM-caused mutations in TNNT2 gene, a result different from the reported rates of TNNT2 gene mutation ranging from 10% to 20% in other nations, suggesting that TNNT2 gene is not a susceptible gene for HCM in Chinese population.

9.A primary study of color tolerance of anterior tooth crown prosthesis.
West China Journal of Stomatology 2008;26(6):622-625
OBJECTIVETo study the color tolerance of anterior ceramic crown and seek an effective approach for color-matching of oral prostheses.
METHODS30 single maxillary incisor ceramic prostheses and the corresponding nature teeth were measured by a digital camera in a steady environment for image taking and color measurement, which based on the standard recommended by CIE. The color tolerance was analyzed in two groups based on satisfaction and dissatisfaction of prostheses color-matching.
RESULTSThe deltaE of satisfaction group was 2.5503, while the deltaE of dissatisfaction group was 4.0772. There was significant difference between chromatic aberration of satisfaction group and dissatisfaction group (P<0.01). When the lightness and saturation of prosthesis were higher than nature teeth, there was no significant difference between deltaL*, deltab*, deltaC* of satisfaction group and dissatisfaction group (P>0.05). When the lightness and saturation of prosthesis were smaller than nature teeth, there was significant difference between deltaL*, deltab*, deltaC* of satisfaction group and dissatisfaction group (P<0.01). There was significant difference between deltaa*, deltaH of satisfaction group and dissatisfaction group (P<0.05, P<0.01).
CONCLUSIONControl of color difference is the key for shade matching of anterior tooth prosthesis. Applying the color tolerance is beneficial to improving the prosthesis quality.

Photodynamic therapy (PDT), because of its good targeting, minimal invasion, and safety, is becoming a very active area in cancer prevention and treatment, in which the photosensitizers have proved to be the core element for PDT. We developed a new HPLC method for analyzing porphyrin photosensitizers using Shiseido Capcell PAK C18 (150 mm x 4.6 mm, 5 µm) as the column at 30 °C, methanol-1% aqueous solution of acetic acid as the mobile phase in a flow rate of 1.0 mL · min(-1) in a gradient elution mode, and the detection wavelength at 380 nm. This method, showing good specificity, precision, accuracy and robusty via methodology validations, can be applied to the purity test and assay of porphyrin photosensitizers, and has played a key guide role in the R&D of the new porphyrin photosensitizer--sinoporphyrin sodium.
