Objective To observe the protective effect of hydroxysafflor yellow A(HSYA) on anoxia/reoxygenation (A/R) injury of neonatal primary cardiomyocytes, and its relationship with phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein ki-nase B/glycogen synthase kinase 3β(PI3K/Akt/GSK3β) signaling pathway. Methods Primary cardiomyocytes of neonatal rats were isolated from the rats and incubated for 48 hours. The cells were adhered to each other and then divided into five groups:control group (Con group), anoxia/reoxygenation group (A/R group),HSYA treatment group(A/R+H group),PI3K inhibitor (LY294002)treatment group(A/R+L group)and HSYA+LY294002 treat-ment group (A/R+H+L group),then to collect the supernatant fluid of each group to measure LDH.The flow cy-tometry was used to measure the apoptotic cells. The protein levels of Bcl-2,Bax,Akt,p-Akt (Ser473),GSK3β, p-GSK3β (Ser9) were evalated by Western blot. Results A/R increased LDH release, the apoptosis rate (P<0.001),and the expression of pro-apoptotic protein Bax (P <0.001) with the decrease of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2,p-Akt(Ser473), p-GSK3β(Ser9)(P<0.001) as compared with the control group. HSYA treatment de-creased LDH release, the apoptosis rate (P<0.001),and the expression of Bax (P<0.001) and increase the ex-pression of Bcl-2,p-Akt(Ser473),p-GSK3β(Ser9)(P<0.001). Compared with the A/R+H group, the expres-sion of Bax was increased (P<0.001),while the expression of Bcl-2, p-Akt(Ser473), p-GSK3β(Ser9)was de-creased (P<0.001) in the A/R+H+L group. Conclusions HSYA protects rats'cardiomyocytes from anoxia/reoxy-genation injury by regulating PI3K/Akt/GSK3β signaling pathway.

In this paper, the number of rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere microbial organisms of fusarium wilt resistant and susceptible watermelon under soil culture and soilless substrate culture was studied by traditional culture methods. The results showed that, the number of rhizoshpere microorganisms was significantly higher than non-rhizosphere, and the number was changed with the stage of watermelon grow, the number was the lowest in seedling stage and increased with the watermelon grow, and achieved highest at the flowering and fruiting stage, decreased with the watermelon ageing. The fusarium wilt resistant of watermelon was correspondence with number of rhizosphere bacteria; the number of rhizosphere bacteria of resistant watermelon was higher than that of susceptible watermelon in each stage under soil culture and soilless culture. The fusarium wilt resistant of watermelon is no correspondence with number of rhizosphere fungi and actinomycete. The number of non-rhizosphere microbial organisms was changed in a small range in the whole growing stage. The non-rhizosphere bacteria have no significant change in the whole stage under soil culture and increased quickly under soilless substrate culture and decreased at the later stage. The non-rhizosphere fungi and actinomycete reached highest at the later stage under soil culture or soilless sub-strate culture.

The traditional culture methods and the molecular biology methods were used to study the rhizosphere bacterial diversity between fusarium wilt resistant and susceptible watermelon. The results showed that the diversity and the equality of cultured rhizosphere bacteria of resistant watermelon were higher than those of the susceptible watermelon. The reason was that the cultured rhizosphere bacterial di- versity index H′ and 1/D of the resistant watermelon were higher than those of the susceptible watermelon and that the cultured rhizosphere bacterial equality index E of the resistant watermelon were higher than those of the susceptible watermelon. The dominant cultured bacterial genotypes were different between re- sistant and susceptible watermelon. The genotype 1 is the dominant genotype of resistant watermelon, con- sists 51.1%. The genotype 7 is the dominant genotype of susceptible watermelon, consists 58.7%.

Chinese Journal of Neuromedicine 2012;11(3):246-249
Objective To explore the therapeutic effect of a new material--complex of shape-memory alloy brace and artificial dura (nitinol brace and NormalGEN) on reconstruction of frontal sinus and repair of cerebrospinal fluid leakage on dog models of lateral media skull base defect. Methods Seven adult healthy dogs were induced into models of frontal sinus defect and cerebrospinal fluid leakage; complex of nitinol brace and NormalGEN assisted by its corresponding apparatus was employed to reconstruct the defect and repair the leakage. The cranial profile, wound healing and leakage after operation were observed. Three months after the operation, cranial projections of X-ray,three-dimensional reconstruction of CT and 1.5T MRI were detected, and the histopathalogical outcome was noted. Results Seven dog models of frontal sinus defect and cerebrospinal fluid leakage were successfully established; 6 received reconstruction of frontal sinus and repair of cerebrospinal fluid leakage and survived without any complications as continuous leakage of cerebrospinal fluid, local tissue eminence and neurological function defect; 1 dead 5 d after the operation. The imaging detection showed that the nitinol brace was clear with satisfactory position without shift and artifact. Histopathalogical outcome showed that granulation tissue, which substituted NormalGEN,grew around the brace with a great quantity of fibroblast. Conclusion The complex of nitinol brace and NormalGEN assisted by its corresponding apparatus is suitable for reconstructing frontal sinus and repairing cerebrospinal fluid leakage in dog models.

OBJECTIVETo set up a new grading system of intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) and determine the value of predicting the probability of post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH) in IVH.
METHODSWe first modified the Graeb criteria, then compared the value of prediction for PHH assessed by the Graeb criteria with the modified Graeb criteria. One hundred and thirty one IVH patients were divided into two groups: the upper group (n = 67) and the lower group (n = 64). Gold standard of PHH was assessed by CT scan or by out-drainage. The diagnostic parameters such as sensitivity (SE), specificity (SP) were analyzed. In the cutoff point of SE and SP curves, diagnostic efficiency (DE), and Kappa value (K) were analyzed. The probability of PHH was estimated by binary logistic regressions.
RESULTSIn all ventricular group, to Graeb criteria in the cutoff point, SE, SP, and K was 0.78, 0.84, and 0.60; and to modified Graeb criteria SE, SP, and K was 0.90, 0.84, and 0.74 respectively. The probability of PHH from point of 3-12 was 0.011, 0.032, 0.085, 0.212, 0.435, 0.689, 0.865, 0.949, 0.981, and 0.994 respectively according to modified Graeb criteria.
