Phosphate-dissolving microorganisms are widely distributed in soil, rhizosphere and other ecological environment. Understanding the characteristics of these microorganisms in solubilizing phosphates is helpful to apply them in improving P use efficiency. The obtained results indicated that the fungi had much higher capacity to dissolve the rock than the bacteria. Existence of Fe, Al, Mg and Na in the culture media reduced the rock solubilization by the bacteria, but increased the solubilization of the fungi. The higher content of the rock in the media, the lower capacity of the rock phosphate solubilization was found. The capacity was also significantly reduced if the concentration of C material in the media was higher than 3%. It was also found that the microorganisms destroyed the rock structure. The P was more easily released from the rock at further incubation. In conclusion, there is some potential to utilize the microorganisms to activate the rock phosphate.

Objective To investigate the influence of factors related to metabolic syndrome(MS)on the outcome in subjects without diabetes mellitus in a community. Methods A two-year follow-up study was conducted in 885 subjects who were enrolled in the epidemiologic survey carried out in Pingliang Community, Shanghai in 2002.Oral glucose tolerance test, lipid prefde, blood pressure(BP),body mass index(BMI),waist and hip circumferences were measured. Results (1)The baseline of BMI,fasting plasma glucose(FPG),2h plasma glucose after glucose loading(2hPG),BP,triglyceride(TG)in the subjects with impaired glucose regulation(IGR)increased significantly as compared to those with normal glucose regulation(NGR)(all P

Objective To explore the influence of lifestyle intervention on type 2 diabetes mellitus ( DM) at high risk way of life. Methods Sixty residents with high risk of type 2 DM received individual instruction lasting 18 months, including exercise, diet and psychological aspects. Results After the intervention, their daily meals collocation was reasonable, the intake was reasonable in terms of three main nutrients, edible oil, salt, vegetables. The total amount, effective exercise and effective level/total amount, body mass index, waist circumstances were better than those before the intervention ( P < 0. 05, P < 0. 01). Conclusions Intervention will help strengthen the high risk of type 2 diabetes and gradually establish a healthy lifestyle to reduce the incidence of risk factors, to gradually control the occurrence and development of type 2 diabetes.
6.Increased expression of ERp29 in retinoic acid-induced PC12 cells by mutant presenilin-1 and its significance
Chinese Journal of Neuromedicine 2008;7(3):250-253,257
Objective To investigate the effect of mutant presenilin-1(PS-1)on retinoic acid (RA)-induced PC12 cell gene expression, and find out the pathogenesis-related genes of Alzheimer's disease. Methods Gene-engineered PC12 cells stably expressing mutant PS-1 or wild-type PS-1 gene were induced by RA and then investigated by silver staining difrerential display (DD) technique for detecting gene differential expression. Results The gene-engineered PC12 cell models expressing mutant or wide-type PS-1 gene were successfully established by Lipofectin transferring technique. The endoplasmic reticulum protein 29 (ERp29) was higher expressed in gene-engineered PC12 cells with mutant PS-1,moreover,it had a close relationship with cell apoptosis. Conclusions The increase of ERp29 expression may be result from endoplasmic reticulum stress. The higher expression of ERp29 may play an important role in pathogenic mechanism of Alzheimer's disease.

Objective: To observe the effects of microwave on the activity of SOD and the contents of MDA in renal cortex and testis of mice. Methods: Microwave generator(2 450 MHz, 10 mW/cm2) was used to expose mice; NBT,DTNB and TBA were used to mearure the activity of SOD and the contents of MDA in renal cortex and testis of the mice after microwave exposure. Results: The content of MDA in renal cortex and testis of the mice increased progressively on days 1,6,12 and reached the highest level on day 24 after the microwave exposure (P<0.01). The activity of SOD in renal cortex and testis of the mice decreased progressively on days 1, 6, 12 and reached the lowest level on day 24 after the microwave exposure (P<0.01). Conclusions: Microwave exposure can produce reactive oxygen free radicals and lead to depress SOD activity.

Objective To compare the value of dipyridamole 201T1 Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) myocardial imaging and exercise myocardial 99Tcm-MIBI SPECT imaging on diagnosing cardiac syndrome X.Methods Sixty-three patients with known cardiac syndrome X were divided into dipyridamole 201T1 SPECT myocardial imaging group (group 1,n = 35) and exercise myocardial 99Tcm-MIBI-SPECT imaging group (group 2,n = 28) and the diagnostic accuracy rates were compared. Results Thirty-one out of 35 cardiac syndrome X patients showed reverse redistribution in group 1 and the diagnostic accuracy rate was 89%.Positive test results were evidenced 24 out of 28 cardiac syndrome X patients in group 2 and the diagnostic accuracy rate was 87% (P > 0.05 vs.group 1).Conclusion The diagnostic accuracy rates of these two myocardial imaging methods were satisfactory and comparable on detecting cardiac syndrome X.

Objective To observe the protection and distribution of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) by distinct intravenous infusion time on renal ischemia reperfusion injury (IRI) in rats. Methods We used unilateral nephrectomy and contralateral vascular occlusion method to establish renal IRI model in rats. The experimental groups which received 2 × 106 MSCs infusion through the tail vein, were subsequently divided into 3 subgroups:2 h pre-reperfusion (PreOp,n =16),immediately after reperfusion (Op,n =16),6 h post-reperfusion (PostOp,n - 16).The control groups included sham operation group (n =16) and ischemia group (n =16).Chemotaxis of DAPI-labeled MSCs was detected 6 h after administration in the IR kidney.Renal function was detected at 6,24,and 48 h respectively after operation. Forty eight h after operation, the renal tissues were harvested to observe the pathological changes by HE staining and the tubular epithelial cell apoptosis via TUNEL assay. Results MSCs were found in the experimental groups after IR in the kidney, most in PostOp group.Twenty-four and 48 h after reperfusion, there was no significant difference in Cr and BUN between the experimental groups and sham operation group (P>0.05),but the levels of Cr and BUN in the experimental groups were significantly lower than in the IR group (P< 0.05). As compared with IR group, the renal pathological injury was alleviated, the number of apoptotic cells was decreased in the experimental group, most significantly in PostOp group (P<0.05).Conclusion MSCs can reduce the inflammatory response and inhibit renal tubular cell apoptosis in rat renal IRI.Post-reperfusion administration of MSCs leads to the best chemotaxis efficiency and protection.

OBJECTIVETo determine the value of the use of a pneumatic tourniquet in total knee arthroplasty.
METHODSSixty patients were prospectively randomized into 2 groups, one group underwent total knee replacement with a tourniquet (n = 30) and one without (n = 30). Operating time, blood loss, postoperative mean morphine requirement, swelling, ecchymosis, earlier straight-leg raising and postoperative knee flexion were measured in both groups.
RESULTSThere was no significant difference in the total blood loss between the 2 groups although the intraoperative blood loss was significantly greater in those without a tourniquet. The mean morphine requirement, postoperative swelling, scope of ecchymosis, earlier straight-leg raising and postoperative knee flexion in the patients that had surgery without a tourniquet were significantly better than those with a tourniquet.
CONCLUSIONKnee arthroplasty operation with the use of a tourniquet has only small benefits on the total blood loss, but hinder in patients' early postoperative rehabilitation exercises.
