Objective To evaluate the clinical role of F-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET) for the diagnosis and staging of prostate cancer.Methods 18F-FDG PET/CT and 99Tcm-MDP ECT whole body bone scan were both performed in 40 patients with prostate cancer proved by biopsy or surgery.We then evaluated the diagnostic value of 18F-FDG PET/CT for prostate cancer.Results Of 40 cases,17 cases were detected by 18 F-FDG PET/CT with a sensitivity of 42.5％.Of the 17 cases with lymphoma metastasis,8 cases were detected by CT while 15 cases were detected by 18F-FDG PET/CT.The sensitivity of 18F-FDG PET/CT is 88.2％.Though 18F-FDG PET/CT and 99Tcm-MDP bone scan have a similar sensitivity in detecting bone metastases,18 F-FDG PET/CT has better specificity and accuracy in detecting bone metastases than that of an 99Tcm-MDP bone scan.Conclusions Though the diagnostic value of 18F-FDG PET/CT in detecting primary focus of prostate is limited,it still has an important role in detecting lymph node metastases and bone metastases.18F-FDG PET/CT has its superiority in prostate cancer staging.It can also help clinicians to select the regimen of treatment.

Objective To evaluate the effects of small dose of dopamine on the renal blood flow in the elderly patients undergoing cardiac valve replacement under cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).Methods Sixty elderly patients,of ASA physical status Ⅱ or Ⅲ,aged 65-74 yr,weighing 52-77 kg,scheduled for elective cardiac valve replacement under CPB,were randomized to receive either normal saline (group C,n =30) or dopamine (group D,n =30).After beginning of surgery,CPB was established routinely.In group D,dopamine was continuously infused for 20 min at a rate of 2 μg· kg-1 · min-1 starting from 10 min after the hearts were perfused with cardioplegic solution for the first time,while the equal volume of normal saline was given in group C.The left renal blood flow velocity was measured by transesophageal echocardiography and mean arterial pressure was recorded before and after dopamine infusion.Blood samples were obtained before surgery and at 24 h after surgery for determination of blood urea nitrogen concentrations.Results Blood urea nitrogen concentrations were significantly increased at 24 h after surgery than that before surgery in the two groups.There was no significant difference in mean arterial pressure and the left renal blood flow velocity before and after dopamine infusion between the two groups.Conclusion Small dose of dopamine (2 μg· kg-1· min-1) dose not increase the renal blood flow or improve the postoperative renal function in the elderly patients undergoing cardiac valve replacement under CPB.

BACKGROUND:The human body pulse signal can be regarded as the convolution of the heart excitation resource signal and the pulse transfer system. The backward signal was studied more before, but the research to the forward signal is not enough.OBJECTIVE: To extract the heart excitation source signals in human pulse wave.DESIGN: A randomized controlled design.SETTING: Second Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University;Biomedical Engineering institute of Shandong University.PARTICIPANTS: Health physical-examined persons in the Second Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University on March 11,2004 were recurited. RM6240 physiological signals collection system was adopted.METHODS: The collection of pulse wave in healthy persons was input into system-analysis mode and based on the principle of blind deconvolution and feasible arithmetic, heart source signals were obtained.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ①Normal human pulse wave ②The heart excitation source signals.RESULTS: In the back-half segment of cepstrum (n＞ n0), periodic impulse was in accordance with the basic human pulse frequency. There was an excitation source in the pulse wave. If high-pass filter was defined to the signal (when n0 equals to 30 in the experimentation the result will be best.), we could get the heart excitation source signal after it was filtered, F transformation, index and inverse transformation.CONCLUSION: This method is practical and feasible and will provide a basis to further analyze pulse wave.

Objective To investigate the effect of Gangliosides on brain protection after cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury in rats. Methods The middle cerebral artery (MCA) focal cerebral ischemia /reperfusion rat models were used by thread occlusion method. The cerebral infarct volume, neurologic function deficits and neurons apoptosis in cerebral ischemic region were observed following focal cerebral ischemia 90 min (IR 0 h) and ischemia 90 min / reperfusion 24 h (IR 24 h) by injecting Gangliosides and normal saline intraperitoneally, respectively. Objective: To analyze the death among children under 5 years of age in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province from 2012 and 2021, so as to provide insights into reduction of mortality among children. Methods: The mortality surveillance data among children under 5 years of age in Huzhou City from 2012 to 2021 were collected from Children Death Report Cards and Surveillance Report among Children under 5 Years of Age, including gender, place of residence, date of death and death diagnosis. The trends in mortality and cause of death were analyzed among children under 5 years of age in Huzhou City from 2012 to 2021. Results: A total of 1 262 deaths occurred among children under 5 years of age in Huzhou City from 2012 to 2021, with mean annual mortality of 4.39‰, and the mortality appeared a tendency towards a decline (χ2trend=132.695, P<0.001). A total of 899 infants died, with mean annual mortality of 3.13‰, and 363 children at ages of 1 to <5 years died, with mean annual mortality of 1.26‰. The mortality appeared a tendency towards a decline among both infants (χ2trend=117.778, P<0.001) and children at ages of 1 to <5 years (χ2trend=19.201, P<0.001). A total of 724 local children died, with mean annual mortality of 3.33‰, and there were 538 deaths among floating children, with mean annual mortality of 7.65‰. The mortality appeared a tendency towards a decline among both local (χ2trend=43.728, P<0.001) and floating children (χ2trend=94.038, P<0.001). The five most common causes of death included preterm birth or low birth weight (207 deaths, 16.40%), drowning (155 deaths, 12.28%), accidental asphyxia (138 deaths, 10.94%), other congenital abnormalities (126 deaths, 9.98%), and congenital heart diseases (113 deaths, 8.95%). Conclusions The mortality appeared a tendency towards a decline among children under 5 years of age in Huzhou City from 2012 to 2021, and preterm birth or low birth weight was the predominant cause of death.

AlM: To observe the early tear film changes after trabeculectomy using Keratograph 5M.METHODS:Fourty-one patients (46 eyes) of glaucoma who underwent trabeculectomy were involved. First tear break up time ( FTBUT ) , average tear break up time (ATBUT), non-invasive tear meniscus height (NlTMH), lipid layer thickness and meibomian gland scores were measured at 1d preoperatively and at 1d, 1wk, 1mo postoperatively.RESULTS:At 1d, 1wk and 1mo postoperatively, FTBUT and ATBUT decreased greatly (P<0. 05), as well as lipid layer thickness (P<0. 017). NlTMH at 1d postoperatively increased significantly, but at 1wk and 1mo postoperatively decreased greatly (P<0. 05). There was no significantly difference in meibomian gland scores between preoperation and postoperation (P>0. 05). CONCLUSlON: Keratograph 5M could be used to evaluate tear film function rapidly and accurately. Trabeculectomy significantly alters tear film stability and tear secretion in the short term after operation.

We retrospectively analyzed the etiology of 26 new-onset pituitary neoplasms, which were diagnosed at outpatient department of internal medicine over the last 2 years. Our results showed that most patients visited doctors for hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and menstrual cycle disorder. In addition,gynecomastia, visual field defect, and headache could also be the primary condition. This study indicates that it should be critical to raise awareness of diverse clinical manifestation of pituitary neoplasm.

Background Stickler syndrome is a genetic connective tissue disorder that affects the ocular,skeletal,orofacial and auditory systems.To determine the gene mutation loci can offer a basis for genetic diagnosis and management of Stickler syndrome.Objective The aim of this study was to research the clinical characteristics of a pedigree with Stickler syndrome and identify the disease-causing gene mutation.Methods This study was approved by Ethic Committee of Peking Union Medical College Hospital.The clinical study and pedigree analysis were performed in one family with Stickler syndrome type Ⅰ (STL Ⅰ).Nine family members were examined with informed consent.The entire coding regions of COL2A1 gene with flanking intronic regions were amplified by PCR and directly sequenced.The detected sequence change was confirmed to be mutationloci by examining whether they existed in normal control individuals.Mutant proteins were predicted with online software.Results There were 4 generations and 11 members in this family,and 2 members died,including 1 patient.Three patients were found in 9living families.Inheritance of this family complicd with an autosomal dominant inheritance mode.All affected individuals showed the consistent phenotypes with STL Ⅰ,including high myopia,membranous vitreous anomaly and surface central flat,short nose,palatoschisis,etc.Mutation screening of COL2A1 gene revealed that the first base of intron 12 was deleted(IVS12+1G del).Nucleotide sequence analysis showed that this mutation led to the functional abnormal of this gene by forming termination cordon in advance.This mutation occurred in all affected individuals,however,no mutation was observed in any unaffected member or 100 normal unrelated individuals.Conclusions This study identifies a novel splice-site mutation(IVS12+ 1G del)in COL2A1 gene in a Chinese STL Ⅰ pedigree.This is the first report on a mutation in a Chinese STL Ⅰ family.

AIM　The purpose is to study the anti-arrhythmic effects of extracts from cultured Cordyceps sinensis. METHODS　Aconitine and barium chloride were used to induce experimental arrhythmia models in rats. RESULTS　The results showed that PE was more potent than other ingredients. Pretreatment with PE by oral administration significantly antagonized arrhythmia induced by aconitine. PE significantly prolonged the onset of arrhythmia, decreased the duration and diminished the degree of severity. And in barium chloride-induced arrhythmia model, PE had some anti-arrhythmia effect，which could diminish the degree of severity effectively to some extent. CONCLUSION　PE is an active component to antagonize arrhythmia induced by aconitine and barium chloride.

Objective To investigate surgical opportunity and suitable treatment approach in nodular Hashimoto's disease.Methods An analysis was performed in 388 pathologically confirmed cases with nodular Hashimoto's disease and other thyroid-related diseases.All the cases were involved with surgical treatment due to thyroid nodules from June,1995 to Dec,2005.Results Among the above-mentioned cases,64 cases (16.5%) were Hashimoto's disease with the presence of thyroid cancer,190 (48.9%) nodular thyroid tumor,94 (24.2%) thyroid adenoma,7 (1.8%) hyperthyroidism,the rest (8.5%) simple Hashimoto's disease.Prior to 2000, among 106 cases of Hashimoto's disease there were 15 cases accompanied by thyroid cancer.Since 2001,282 cases of Hashimoto's disease were dealt surgically,49 of which had thyroid cancer.Compared to the period from 1995 to 2000,the complication of Hashimoto's disease and thyroid cancer has been sharply increasing during the recent five years (P
