Objective To evaluate the technique of Kirschner with a hole and tensile developed from the Kirschner tensile band wire.Methods Forty-two cases with fracture of patella and 23 cases with fracture of ulna olecranon were successfully operated with this apparatus.Average age was 42 years old(range,24～78 years),including 38 male patients and 27 females totally.Results Fracture healing rate was 100%,the rate of excellent and good result was 95% after 9 months to 3 years follow-up.No tenderness,skin penetrating caused by the bolt ends,and loosen fixations were found.Conclusion This apparatus can be considered as a rigid,safe and effective method and can meet the biomechanics principle of the Kirschner tensile band wire,complication of the Kirschner tensile band wire could be avoided by using this technique.

Objective To investigate the curative effect and the feasibility of treating femoral neck fractures with cannulated screw fixation.Methods Twenty-three patients with femoral neck fractures were treated with cannulated screw fixation,their average age was 51 years old(range,12～86 years),including 7 male patients and 16 females totally.Garden Ⅱ 2 cases,Garden Ⅱ 6 cases,Garden Ⅲ 12 cases,Garden Ⅳ 3 cases.A patient who suffered from fractures displacement needed traction for 3～7 days before surgical operation and the opening reduction was necessary if reduction was not satisfactory.Results During the follow-up 11～33 months the rate of nonunion was 9%(2 cases) and the rate of avascular necrosis was 13%(3 cases).Conclusion Trectin femoral neck fracture with cannulated screw fixating is very simple and the trauma is small.This may improve the cure rate of the femoral neck fractures and it is easy to be spreaded across the basic-level hospital.

Objective To summarize the experience of the trans-unilateral nasal and sphenoidal approach to pituitary denomas.Methods 20 cases of pituitary adenomas were removed by the trans-unilateral nasal and sphenoid approach under operating microscope,of which there were 2 microadenoma patients,16 macroadenoma patients;2 giant pituitary adenoma patients.Results Of all the 20 patients,12 had total resection of tumor;4 had subtotal resection of tumor and 4 had part resection of tumor.All cases showed improvement.After the operation,3 had diabetes insipidus and 2 had CSF rhinorrhea,which had been cured by the time they left the hospital.Conclusion this method is minimally invasive with short operative distance,time and fewer complications.

Objective To investigate the effects and mechanism of visfatin on matrix metalloproteinases-9(MMP-9)expression and invasive activity in macrophages.Methods THP-1 monocytes were induced into macrophages.To investigate the effects of visfatin on MMP-9,cells were divided into 2 groups:①macrophages+visfatin 12 h;②macrophages+visfatin 24 h.The concentrations of visfatin in each group were:0(control),50,100,200,400 ng/mL.MMP-9 mRNA and protein expression were analysed by RT-PCR and Western blotting,and MMP-9 invasive activity was assayed by gelatin zymography.To investigate the mechanism of visfatin on MMP-9,cells were divided into 5 groups:①macrophages without stimulation(control);②macrophages pretreated with MAPK p38,ERK1/2,JNK pathway inhibitor for 1 h,then stimulated with visfatin(200 ng/mL)for 24 h;③macrophages pretreated with retinoid X receptors(RXR)nature ligand or peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor ?(PPAR?)natural/synthetic ligand for 1 h,then stimulated with visfatin(200 ng/mL)for 24 h;④macrophages stimulated with visfatin(200 ng/mL)for 24 h;⑤macophages+visfatin(200 ng/mL)for different time(5,10,15,30,60 min).MMP-9 expression,PPAR? expression,and the effect of visfatin on MAPK phosphorylation were analysed by Western blotting.Results Visfatin not only significantly enhanced MMP-9 mRNA and protein expression in macrophages(P

NAD +-dependent cytosolic glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase in Sacch aromyces cerevisiae is one of the key enzymes in metabolic pathway of glycerol . catalysing the reduction of dihydroxyacetone phosphate to glycerol-3-phosph ate.It has two isoenzymes.To study the differences between their structures, their expression of encoding genes and their functions may help increase the understan ding of the cell response mechanism to the hyperosmotic and anoxic conditions. In this paper the research on the two isoenzymes was reviewed.

Objective To investigate the effects of Kinesio taping on function of knees in girls. Methods 20 female students were tested the peak torque of centripedal and eccentric contraction of knee flexion and extension with Biodex isokinetic testing at 60°/s angular velocity, with Kinesio taping, placebo taping and without taping. Their amplitude root of mean square (RMS) of surface electromyography of vastus medialis (VM), rectus femoris (RM) and vastus lateralis (VL) were also recorded. Results For centripedal isokinetic contraction, the relative extensors peak torque was the most as Kinesio taping (P<0.01). There was no significant difference in relative flexor peak torque (P> 0.05). Standardized RMS of VM and VL were the least as Kinesio taping (P<0.01), but not significantly different of RF among all the conditions (P>0.05). For eccentric isokinetic contraction, the relative extensor peak torque of both extensors and flexors were the most as Kinesio taping (P<0.01), while the Standardized RMS of VM and VL were the least (P<0.01), but no significant difference was observed in RF (P> 0.05). Conclusion Kinesio taping may enhance the strength of centripedal, eccentric contractions of quadriceps and eccentric contractions of hamstring, and increase the muscle fibers recruitment of VM and VL.

Objective To study the state of erythrocyte immune function in neonates with hyperbilirubinemia,and analyze the influence of various clinical status on erythrocyte immune function.Methods Fifty-two neonates with hyperbilirubinemia were enrolled and 104 healthy neonates as the control group.The adherence rate of complement 3b-receptor on the surface of red blood cell(RBC-C3bRR) and the immune complex adherence rate of red blood cell(RBC-ICR) were detected with erythrocyte saccha-romycete rosettet test.Results 1.The level of RBC-C3bRR in neonates with hyperbilirubinemia was lower than that in control group,and the level of RBC-ICR in neonates with hyperbilirubinemia was higher than that of control group(Pa0.05).3.Comparing the neonates with unconjugated bilirubin of different concentrations,there were significant difference in RBC-ICR(Pa0.05).4.There were positive correlation between RBC-ICR and bilirubin,unconjugated bilirubin in the neonates(Pa0.05).Conclusion Erythrocyte immune function in neonates with hyperbilirubinemia is obviously lower than that of control group and it is influenced by the concentratron of bilirubin and the time of phototherapy.

We aimed to study the effect of allitridum (All) on the transient outward potassium current (Ito) of ventricular myocytes of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR). Totally 30 male SHRs were randomly divided into three groups: low-dose All group (7.5 mg·kg(-1)), high-dose All group (15.0 mg·kg(-1)) and normal saline group. The other 10 sex and age matched Wistar-kyoto rats (WKY) were also taken as control group (WKY group). All animals received i.p. administration for 8 weeks. The dual enzymatic method was used to separate single ventricular myocyte from animals. Patch-clamp technique was used to record Ito and analyze the effect of All on the current. It was shown that the left ventricular hypertrophy of SHR was reversed significantly by All. Furthermore, the density of Ito was recovered in both high and low dose All groups. The peak current densities of Ito were enhanced from 18.23±3.64 to 25.17±2.86 pA/pF (P<0.01) and 36.47±5.42 pA/pF (P<0.01) at +50 mV by All 7.5 mg·kg(-1) and 15.0 mg·kg(-1), respectively, which was not significantly different with WKY group. The effect was associated with positive shift of the steady-state, close-state inactivation, and shortened recovery from inactivation of Ito. It is concluded that All decreases the remodeling of Ito of ventricular hypertrophic myocytes of SHR.

The role of methyl-CpG binding domain protein 2 (MBD2) in an ApoE-deficient mouse model of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) was investigated. Eight-week-old Mbd2/ApoE double deficient (Mbd2(-/-) ApoE(-/-)) mice (n=12, 24 eyes, experimental group) and MBD2 (wt) ApoE(-/-) mice (n=12, 24 eyes, control group) were fed on Western-type diet for 4 months. The mice were sacrificed, and total serum cholesterol levels were analyzed and Bruch's membrane (BM) of the eyes was removed for ultrastructural observation by transmission electron microscopy. Moreover, intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) immunoreactivities were evaluated by fluorescence microscopy in sections of the eyes in both groups for further understanding the function mechanism of MBD2. There was no significant difference in the total serum cholesterol levels between control group and experimental group (P>0.05). Transmission electron microscopy revealed that AMD-like lesions, various vacuoles accumulated on BM, notable outer collagenous layer deposits and dilated basal infoldings of retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) were seen in both groups, and the BM in control group was significantly thickened as compared with experimental group (P<0.05). Fluorescence micrographs exhibited the expression of ICAM-1 in choroid was higher in control group than in experimental group. We are led to conclude that MBD2 gene knockout may lead to accumulation of more deposits on the BM and influence the pathogenesis of AMD via triggering endothelial activation and inflammatory response in choroid, improving microcirculation, and reducing lipid deposition so as to inhibit the development of AMD-like lesions. Our study helps to provide a new therapeutic approach for the clinical treatment of AMD.

Neonatal stroke leads to cognitive deficits that may include hemispatial neglect. Hemispatial neglect is a syndrome after stroke that patients fail to be aware of stimuli on the side of space and body opposite a brain lesion. We report here a 7-year-old girl who suffered neonatal right brain stroke and underwent right hemispherectomy due to refractory epilepsy. Post-surgical observation of the child’s behavior and tests did not show any signs of hemispatial neglect. We concluded the spatial attention function of the child with neonatal stroke might be transferred to the contralateral side during early childhood.
