1.Analysis of toxicity of traditional Chinese herbal medicine and its connotation.
Journal of Integrative Medicine 2009;7(2):101-4
Based on traditional Chinese medicine theory and clinical experience, traditional Chinese herbal drug toxicity has its own special connotation. From the perspective of history and logic, the different comprehension of toxicity between Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine was discussed after retracing the meaning of "drug toxicity" in traditional Chinese medicine. The authors suggest that it's not feasible to study the Chinese medicine coping mechanically and applying indiscriminately the concept and the research idea about modern drug toxicity since there is different understanding of "drug toxicity" between traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine. Many control elements are involved in the use of traditional Chinese herbal drugs, and Chinese drug components and actions are complex as compared with Western drugs. More and more drugs with toxicity will be found due to the relativity of drug toxicity. Currently, the study of Chinese drug toxicity should pay more attention to the relation between the toxicity and Chinese drug nature, compatibility and the corresponding disease or syndrome pattern after making definition of Chinese drug toxicity and its connotation.
2.Preparation of components of defensins from human and rabbit neutrophils by continuous acid-urea-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (CAU-PAGE)
Journal of Medical Postgraduates 2001;14(2):106-109
Objectives:To develop a preparative method of continuous acid-urea-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (CAU-PAGE) to purify the defensin components from human and rabbit neutrophils (HNP-1~3 and RNP-1~5).Methods:Neutrophils were isolated from human peripheral blood or rabbit artificial aseptic ascites. The components of defensin were extracted by 5% acetic acid directly followed by elution of CAU-PAGE,and purified HNP-1~3 or RNP-1~5 were harvested.Polyacrylamide gel filtration was used as the method for comparison. Results:For each elution circa 1.50 mg of purified HNP or 2.50 mg of RNP were obtained from 5×108 of neutrophils, and their natural biological activity was preserved.Conclusions:CAU-PAGE is a relatively simple, rapid, economical method for purifying cationic peptides as the components of defensin.

4.Multivariate analysis for prognostic factors on non-operative treatment of cervical spinal cord injury without fracture or dislocation.
China Journal of Orthopaedics and Traumatology 2016;29(3):242-247
OBJECTIVETo analyze the factors in the non-operative treatment of cervical spinal cord injury without fracture or dislocation.
METHODSThe clinical data of 122 patients with cervical spinal cord injury without fracture or dislocation from January 2009 to December 2012 treated by non-operative treatment were retrospectively reviewed. There were 84 males and 38 females, aged from 18 to 83 years with an average of (52.37 +/- 13.27) years. The clinical features, such as age, gender, cause of injury, time from injury to treatment, ASIA grade of spine cord injury, MRI type of spine cord injury, range of spine cord injury, effective cervical spinal canal ratio, Pfirrmann grade of intervertebral disc herniation, segment of intervertebral disc herniation, intervertebral disc ligament complex injury, treatment of high-dose methyiprednisolone, were observed. Single factor and multiple factor Logistic regression analysis were used in the clinical data in order to analyze the influencing factors of above items to prognosis.
RESULTSFor univariate analysis, the factors such as MRI type of spine cord injury, extent of spine cord injury, effective cervical spinal canal ratio, Pfirrmann grade of intervertebral disc herniation, segment of intervertebral disc herniation, ASIA grade of spine cord injury, associated with prognosis (P < 0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the main prognostic factors including MRI type of spine cord injury, range of spine cord injury, effective cervical spinal canal ratio, Pfirrmann grade of intervertebral disc herniation, ASIA grade of spine cord injury according to its effective intension (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe main prognostic factors on non-operative treatment of cervical spinal cord injury without fracture or dislocation were MRI type and extent of spine cord injury, meanwhile, correlate with effective cervical spinal canal ratio, Pfirrmann grade of intervertebral disc herniation, ASIA grade of spine cord injury. It is deliberative to choose no-operative treatment, for it only refers to the patients with the mild localized edema type or no signal change of spinal cord in MRII. Operative treatment shoud be recommended for other patients.

5.Effect of Community Rehabilitation on Stroke Patients during Convalescence
Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2008;14(8):786-787
Objective To observe the effect of community rehabilitation on the motor function and activities of daily living(ADL)of stroke patients. Methods 155 stroke patients were randomly divided into the exercises group(n=76)and control group(n=79)and evaluated with simple Fugl-Meyer Assessment(FMA),Modified Barthel Index(MBI)and Functional Comprehensive Assessment(FCA)before treatment and 1 and 3 months after treatment. Results The evaluations of FMA,MBI and FCA were not different between two groups before treatment. One month later, the scores of MBI and FCA of the exercises group improved significantly(P<0.01),but simple FMA not improved even to 3 months after treatment(P>0.05).In the control group, the simple FMA score not improved(P>0.05),the scores of MBI and FCA had a declined tendency with disease course prolong. Conclusion The effect of community rehabilitation on the motor function of stroke patients during convalescence is not significant, but community rehabilitation may improve ADL and the quality of life.

Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology 2013;29(6):534-537
Because of the aggressive threaten of heat stroke and a lack of understanding of the mechanism of action, mammal animal models for experimental heat stroke were well developed. During the past 5 decades, anesthetized mouse, rat, rabbit, dog, baboon and monkey were used as animal model for experimental heat stroke. However, anesthetized mammals models have some limitations, such as neuroprotective effect of anesthetic agents, possible disturbance on injury and recovery of stroke animals by anesthetic agents, difficulty of discussing animal behavior before and after heat stroke, it was also difficult for the models to evaluate cognitive function of animal under hot environment. Considering humanitarian, only awaked and unrestrained mouse heat stroke model was accepted so far. Therefore, we also developed an awaked and unrestrained rat heat stroke model, and found it was helpful to evaluate drug effectiveness for animal behavior and cognitive function under hot environment.
