1.Field evaluation of the effectiveness of Alé 10SC (alphacypermethrin) in malaria vector control in Northern Vietnam

The study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of bed-net impregnation with Ale l0SC at a dose 25mg a.i/m2 based on bioassays, entomological indices and to evaluate side effects and the influence of washing of bed-nets in terms of insecticide residual effects. The trials were conducted from November 2003 to November 2004 in Quyet Chien commune, Hoa Binh province's Tan Lac district. Polyester bed-nets impregnated with Ale l0SC at dose of 25mg ai/m2 were found to have 6-month residual effects and to remain effective in malaria vector control after one wash (60 days after treatment). Ale l0SC bed-net impregnation were found to reduce the density of day time indoor resting and human biting anopheline mosquitoes. There are unsignficant side effects among spraymen, dippers and villagers in the treatment areas caused by bed-net impregnation at dose of 25mg ai/m2 were observed.

2.Two cases of acute chlorfenapyr poisoning and literature review.

In recent years, chlorfenapyr poisoning has gradually increased in clinical practice, but the case fatality rate remains high. At present, the research on its poisoning mechanism and clinical characteristics is limited, and there is no effective treatment. In order to summarize the clinical characteristics of chlorfenapyr poisoning, in order to guide the clinical treatment, this article reported 2 cases of acute chlorfenayr poisoning and 21 cases of literature review, and summarized the clinical characteristics of chlorfenapyr poisoning.Most of the symptoms of gastrointestinal symptoms, profuse sweating, high fever, and changes in consciousness after chlorfenapyr poisoning, and delayed exacerbations are common, which can involve multiple organ systems such as the central nervous system, providing a basis for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

3.The Inventory Levels of Red Blood Cells from Sentinel Hospitals in Korea according to the Blood Type .

BACKGROUND: A survey for determining the inventory levels of blood products in hospitals is needed, not only for the effective management of the blood products, but also for controlling and planning of the blood supply in Korea. However, any nation-wide survey has never been reported in Korea. Our aims were to provide the information about the status of the RBCs inventory levels of each blood type in the hospitals, and to suggest guidelines for estimating the inventory levels of hospitals. METHODS: We analyzed the data of the average daily usage, the ideal inventory levels and the minimal inventory levels of RBCs according to the each blood type for 28 sentinel hospitals that participate in the 'blood inventory monitoring system'. This system is a surveillance program for monitoring the usage and inventory levels of blood products. RESULTS: The hospitals showed different levels for the average daily usage, the ideal inventory and the minimal inventory according to each blood type. The average daily usage, the ideal inventory level and the minimal inventory level of blood type A were the highest compared to those of the other blood types. For each blood type, the average ideal inventory level is about 5 times higher than the average daily usage, and the average minimal inventory level is about 2 times higher than the average daily usage. CONCLUSION: This is the first nation-wide report on the average daily usage, the ideal inventory levels and the minimal inventory level of each blood type for Korean hospitals, and this data will be helpful to understand the inventory status and estimate the inventory levels of blood products.

4.Residual effects of field house spraying with Alé 10SC (Alphacypermethrin) in North Vietnam

Evaluation of effectiveness of house spraying with Ale 10SC/m2 in malaria mosquitoe prevention by testing bioassay and etomological indicators as well as side effects in the community in implemented area from 11/2003-11/2004 at Quyet Chien commune, Tan Lac District, Hoa Binh province shows that using Ale 10SC spraying with 30mm/m2 with 6 months of residual on wooden and brick wall and the mosquitoe death rate is 51.3-52.6%. Ale 10SC spraying decreased the density of An.minimus domestically daytime and seeking blood. Ale 10SC spraying with 30mg/m2 in malaria transmitted mosquitoes does not have side effects on people using it directly and the community

5.Evaluation of residual effect of Ale 10SC (alphacypermethrin) as applied to painted and nylon wall surfaces under laboratory conditions

The evaluation trial was conducted from August 2004 to March 2005 in the laboratory of the National Institute of Malariolgy, Parasitology and Entomology, Ha Noi. Bioassays with An.dirus and Ae.aegypti (reared mosquitoes) were made according to the WHO method for evaluation of susceptibility and residual effects of the insecticide on the painted and nylon wall surface. Ale lose sprayed at the dose of 30mg ai/m2 were found to produce residual effect for 6-7 months on the painted wall surfaces (mosquito mortalities: 51.1%-67.8%) and for 4-5 months on nylon wall surface (mosquito mortality: 55.6%-67.8%).

9.Degradation, half-life and residual effects of pyrethroid impregnated nets on an.dirus

This study was performed at Hanoi University of Natural Sciences and National Institute of Malaria and Parasitology from April 2001 to May 2002. Biological trials on laboratory strains of An. dirus were carried out according to WHO/VCB/81.806; WHO/CDS/CPC/MAL/98.12 and WHO/VCB/89.981. Analyses were conducted by the method of fluid-fluid extraction with the solvent system of n-hexan. Fendona 10SC,Icon 2,5CS,K-othrin ISC, Imperator 50EC .soaked mosquito bednet had manifested insecticide effect. Their effect of killing An.dirus was maintained for 5 -6 months. The procedure of analysis of pyrethroide compounds in use for soaking mosquito bednet was established and the half live of 125-188 day long period for each compound was determined

10.Proof production of manual syringes to be used in solid-phase microextraction (SPME) for analysing some pyrethroid compounds

The study was carried in Chemistry Department of University of Sciences and Entomology Department of National Institute of Malariology - Parasitology - Entomology during the period of 2001-2002. A manual syringe for SPME was made by using a fused silica fiber from optical cable, one of the end of the fiber is passed through the hole of a needle of 5mL medical syringe and is attached to a piston in a protective holder of 1mL medical syringe, and the other end is coated by liquid phase polyacrylate (the fiber end in a 0.1g/mL solution of polyacrylate in dichloromethane). Then the liquid sample to adsort analytes during 30-45 minutes. At the end, the 2 needle is inserted into the GC/ECD injector port is desorbed the analytes on to the column
