Korean Journal of Urology 1990;31(6):869-873
Chronic prostatitis has various symptoms and many problems in management. Recently a lipidosterolic extract of Serenoa Repens, Permixon has been reported to reveal potential antiandrogenic and anti inflammatory activities on prostate. Then we used Permixon on chronic prostatitis and following results were obtained. Permixon is administered orally in dose of 160mg., b.i.d. for 60 days in 31 cases of chronic prostatitis in 1st group, Permixon 160mg, with Cipro-floxacin 500mg, b.i.d. in 35 cases in 2nd group and Placebo 2 tablets, b.i.d. in 30 cases in 3rd group. In 1st group 36 cases(77.4%) were improved, 29 cases(82.8%) in 2nd group and 7 cases (23.3 %) of 3rd group were improved. Permixon is an effective drug in chronic prostatitis and there was no changes in laboratory findings and negligible side effects were noticed

5.Clinical Observation on Chronic Prostatitis.
Korean Journal of Urology 1982;23(8):1161-1164
A clinical observation was performed on 154 cases of chronic prostatitis in the Department of Urology, National Seoul Hospital from January 1981 to March 1982. The results are as follows: 1. 121 cases or 78.4 percent of the cases were observed among the ages between 20 to 40 years are more than one half of these cases were seen between the ages of 26 to 35 years. 2. Previous diseases were Non-gonococcal urethritis on 82 cases (53.2%), Gonococcal urethritis on 45 cases(29.2%) and previous prostatitis on 15 cases (9.7%). 12 cases (7.8%) were free of previous diseases. 3. Most frequently observed symptoms consisted of those of mild chronic urethritis such as morning drop, urethral discomfort, perineal discomfort and frequency. 4. In microscopic findings of wet smear of the prostatic secretion, 125 cases (81.2%) showed W.B.C. more than10/H.P,F. 29 cases (18.8%) were within normal limit. 5. In 125 cases in which prostatic gram stain was done, microorganisms were gram (+) cocci on 26 cases (20.8%),gram (-) bacilli on 12 cases (9.6%) and gram (+) bacilli on 10 cases (8.0%). No microorganism were on 77 cases (61.6%).

9.The Concentrations of Zinc in Expressed Prostatic Secretion of Chronic Prostatitis Patients.
Korean Journal of Urology 1987;28(3):341-343
We have performed assay for zinc on the expressed prostatic secretion in 52 consecutative patients with complaints of chronic prostatitis along with 23 controls. Among 52 patients, 29 are chronic bacterial prostatitis and 23 are chronic non-bacterial prostatitis. The result is as follows: 1. There is a significant difference(p<0.01) of the concentration of zinc in expressed prostatic secretion between the patient and the control. 2. Not remarkable difference of the concentration of zinc between the bacterial prostatitis and the non-bacterial prostatitis is elucidated.

10.Rediscovery of type III prostatitis related microorganisms.
National Journal of Andrology 2010;16(5):456-459
Type III prostatitis is a disease that seriously affects men's health. It has a high incidence and unclear etiology. The relationship between type III prostatitis and certain microorganisms has become better understood with the improvement of the techniques for detecting and identifying microorganisms, particularly with the wide application of the methods for the analysis of the 16S rDNA gene. This review introduces a variety of methods for detecting type III prostatitis-related microorganisms, with the purpose of gaining a deeper insight into the role of microorganisms in the pathogenesis of type III prostatitis.
