1.Clinical Consideration of Prednisolone Induced Cataract.
Journal of the Korean Ophthalmological Society 2004;45(5):732-735
PURPOSE: The purpose of this paper was to examine the correlation between the development of posterior subcapsular cataract and the dosage and duration of systemic steroid therapy. METHODS: Twenty-two eyes which underwent cataract surgery at our ophthalmologic department were enrolled, along with 20 randomly selected eyes, which received prednisolone therapy at least for 1 year. We examined prednisolone dosage, duration and systemic disorders. We compare daily prednisolone dosage, and duration between the subcapsular opacity group and the non-subcapsular opacity group. SPSS, with 2 way- ANOVA system, was used for statistical analysis. RESULTS: The development of posterior subcapsular cataract was correlated with the daily prednisolone dosage, but not with the duration of prednisolone therapy (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Careful attention to the daily steroid dosage is required to prevent posterior subcapsular cataract formation.

We repart herein a case of psoriasifomi sarcoidosis. A histopathological examination reveaied sarcoidal ulomas throughout the dermis. There wa no systemic nvolvement, The skin lesions resolved aftier one month following treatment with low dose oral prednisolone. This is the first case of psoriasiform sarcoidosis in Korea.

Although the psoralen therapy has been used extensively on vitligo since the : introduction by El-Mofty on 1948, the result has not been satisfactory. Recent investigations showed that the autoimmune mechanism might be the causative factor to the development of vitiligo, and the use of steroid might be expected to be beneficial in the treatment of this disorder. Authors tried the combined treatment of prednisolone and psoralen on vitiligo and the results obtained are as follows; 1. Repigmentations began to develop from injected area of prednisolone as well as frorn hair follicles and peripheral area of the lesions. 2. More satisiactory responses were obtained on the widespread and symmetrical lesions of shorter duration than on the lesions of localized and long duration.
