BACKGROUND:Autologous split-thickness skin grafting is the main therapy for burn repair at functional sites, which has achieved certain effects, but there are stil some deficiencies, such as poor texture, stiffness and poor toughness, as wel as severer hyperplasia that is easy to result in contracture deformity and poor functional recovery. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the clinical efficacy of skin co-transplantation on burn repair at functional sites. METHODS:Sixty patients with burns at functional sites (n=84) were randomized into two groups: co-transplantation of acelular dermis and autologous split-thickness skin in experimental group and autologous split-thickness skin graft in control group. Survival rate of skin flap and rate of secondary operation were compared between two groups. At 1 month after transplantation, Vancouver Scar Scale was used to assess skin color, thickness, blood vessel distribution and flexibility, and meanwhile, the severity of scar was determined. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The survival rate of skin flap was significantly higher in the experimental group than the control group (93%vs. 70%,P < 0.05), and the rate of secondary operation was significantly lower in the experimental group compared with the control group (0vs. 13%,P < 0.05). At 1 month after transplantation, scores on the skin color, thickness, blood vessel distribution and flexibility were al lower in the experimental group than the control group (P < 0.05), but the incidence of mild hyperplasia in the experimental group was significantly higher than that in the control group (52% vs. 29%,P < 0.05). These findings indicate that co-transplantation of acelular alogeneic dermis and autologous split-thickness skin for burn repair at functional sites can effectively enhance the survival rate of skin flap, reduce the rate of secondary operation, contribute to wound healing and reduce the severity of hyperplasia.

The effect of dark tea fermentation liquid with Eurotium Cristatum on the activity of digestive enzyme was researched, as fellowing amylase, protease, lipase. The results showed that dark tea fermentation liquid with Eurotium Cristatum may increase remarkably the activity of ?-amylase and protease, but decrease efficiently the activity of lipase. The fermentation liquid improves the digestion and absorption of starch and protein, but inhibits the decomposition and absorption of fat, so it can explain the mechanism of Fu-brick tea's health functions.

Tetrabromobisphenol A(TBBPA)is supposed to have potential thyroid disrupting activities due to its similar structure to thyroid hormones.TBBPA has been proved to show thyroid disrupting effects in vivo and in vitro studies.TBBPA might disrupt thyroid hormone system through transthyretin- and thyroid receptor-mediated pathways. The ability of TBBPA inducing the production of reactive oxygen species might be the extension of its thyroid disrupting activities. The thyroid disrupting effects of TBBPA might be closely related to its oxidative stress, reproduction toxicity and neurotoxicity.More experiments are required for the effects of TBBPA on the aquatic and amphibian animals.

Chinese Journal of Lung Cancer 2002;5(5):345-348
BACKGROUNDTo investigate the relationship between expression of fragile histidine triad gene protein, Fhit, and clinicopathological characteristics of human lung cancer.
METHODSFhit protein expression was detected in 92 cases of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded human lung cancer by citrate-microwave-SP immunohistochemical method, of which 52 were non-small cell cancer (NSCLC) and 40 small cell cancer (SCLC). Its relationship to histological grade, lymph node metastasis and histological classification were analysed.
RESULTSThe loss of Fhit protein expression were found in 62.0% (57/92) and 4.3% (4/92) of cancer tissue and normal lung tissue, respectively and there was a significant difference in the expression of Fhit protein between cancer and normal tissue (P=0.000). 53.8% (28/52) of the cases of NSCLC showed a marked loss or absence of Fhit expression, 46.2% (24/52) of cases were negative, 7.7% (4/52) showed a higher expression and 38.5% (20/52) equal to the level of Fhit expression compared with the matched normal tissues. The loss of Fhit expression was closely related to histological grade (P=0.003), to lymph node metastasis (P=0.029), and to histological classification of the cases (P=0.003). There was a significant difference between grade I+II (38.2%; 13/34) and grade III cancer (83.3%; 15/18), between cancers with lymph node metastasis (70.8%; 17/24) and those without (39.3%; 11/28), and between squamous cell carcinoma ( 68.6%; 24/35) and adenocarcinoma (23.5%; 4/17). The loss of Fhit protein expression was found in 33 of 40 cases of SCLC (82.5%) and the remainder 7 cases (17.5%) showed the same quantity of expression of Fhit, compared with the normal bronchial mucosa.
CONCLUSIONSThe expression of Fhit protein may be associated with the decreasing differentiation, lymph node metastasis and histological classification in NSCLC, and be corresponding to the occurrence and evolution of SCLC. These results suggest that the decreased Fhit expression plays an important role in the development and progression of the tumor, and thus may become a new prognostic marker in human lung cancer.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effectiveness and safety of various agents on paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in the elderly over 75 years old.
METHODSTotally 264 in-patients (75-91 years old, 185 males and 79 females) with atrial fibrillation history of less than 7 days were enrolled in this study. A total of 611 atrial fibrillation episodes were recorded, but 130 episodes (22.3%) of atrial fibrillation were auto-converted to sinus rhythm. The rest 481 episodes of atrial fibrillation were divided into six groups based on the drug used.
RESULTSThe cardioversion ratio of atrial fibrillation were 9.5%, 46.9%, 71.7%, 55.9%, 32.7%, and 73.6% in control, cedilanid, amiodarone, propafenone, verapamil, and quinidine groups, respectively. Ventricular rate control were 5.4%, 83.6%, 84.9%, 77.9%, 78.8%, and 11.3% in those groups, respectively. The total effective rates of amiodarone and cedilanid groups were the highest. When the ventricular rate was controlled to below 90 bpm, the patients would almost complain of no discomfort. No severe side-effect was observed in each group.
CONCLUSIONAmiodarone and cedilanid may be the proper drugs for the treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation in the elderly. The above antiarrhythmics in each therapeutic group were relatively safe and effective.

Chinese Journal of Stomatology 2003;38(1):35-38
OBJECTIVETo study the natural head posture (NHP) of edentulous patients compared with dentate people and to understand NHP shift immediately inserting complete dentures and three months after denture wearing.
METHODSThe NHPs of twenty edentulous patients and twenty-two dentate subjects were recorded with cephalometric technique. The NTPs of edentulous patients were exposed three times, before inserting, right after inserting and three months after inserting dentures. The NHPs of dentate subjects were recorded once as a controlled group. Six angles measured from the radiographs were evaluated for the NHP and three angles and two linear measures for the mandibular position.
RESULTSCompared with dentate subjects, the craniomandibular angles of the edentulous patients increased and the camber of the cervical columns decreased, but changes of the NHP were not significant. The mandible showed a significant upward moving (P < 0.05) and an insignificant forward moving. At the time of denture insertion, the camber of the cervical columns significantly increased (P < 0.05). Three months after using the dentures, the craniomandibular angles of the patients obviously decreased. (P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONThe shift of NHP after denture inserting does exist. The shifted NHP of the patients with dentures is a new balanced posture and closer to the normal position than the NHP of them without dentures.

OBJECTIVETo study the expression of phosphatase and tensin homology deleted on chromosometen ten (PTEN) protein, a tumor suppressor gene in breast cancer and its correlation with p27(kip1) and cyclin D1 expression.
METHODSPTEN protein expression, p27(kip1) and cyclin D1 protein expression were detected by immunohistochemical method in paraffin sections from 61 women with primary breast cancer. PTEN protein expression was compared with clinico-pathologic parameters as related to p27(kip1) and cyclin D1.
RESULTSPTEN, being shown in the cytoplasm, was negative in 6.6% (4/61), reduced in 41.0% (25/61) and positive in 52.5% (32/61) samples. PTEN expression level was correlated with axillary lymph node status, loss of estrogen receptor stain, recurrence and metastasis. On univariate analysis, the disease-free survival rate of patients with higher PTEN expression (> 50% cells stained) was better than those with lower expression (P = 0.0101). However, there was no correlation between p27(kip1), cyclin D1 expression or PTEN expression.
CONCLUSIONPTEN, its lower expression being correlated with poor outcome of breast cancer patients, plays a prominent role in breast cancer. p27(kip1) or cyclin D1 may not be the primary downstream genes of PTEN in breast cancer.
