Fiber-optic biosensor is now becoming a new research direction in biosensors. In recent 10 years it has got a compelling development and has been applied to medical pathogens, food toxicity, water pollution, biochemical weapons, fast detection for environmental samples, etc. In this paper its development is given out in detail.

Myopia is one of the most popular eye diseases all over the world. The development of the current understanding of its mechanism is still limited. Many studies indicated that the growth factors closely related to eye development and myopia. Some growth factors with biological activity, such as transforming growth factor ( TGF ), fibroblast growth factor ( FGF ) and epidermal growth factor ( EGF ), have an impact on scleral thickness variation, the regulation of the development of myopia and so on, which plays a non-negligible role in the pathogenesis of myopia. In this paper, the function of various growth factors in myopia will be reviewed.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of electroporation mediated gene therapy on bone mineral density and strength of new-formed bone in mandibular distraction gap, so as to enhance the osteogenesis and shorten the distraction term.

METHODSNew-Zealand rabbits were employed. The distraction began after 3 days of latency period at the rate of 0. 8 mm per day for 7 days. After distraction, the rabbits were randomly divided into 5 groups to receive injection in the distraction gap with recombinant plasmid 2 microg (0.1 microg/microl) pIRES-hVEGF165-hBMP2 in group A, with recombinant plasmid pIRES-hBMP2 in group B, with recombinant plasmid pIRES-hVEGF165 in group C, with pIRES in group D, and with normal saline (NS) in group E. After injection, electroporation was performed in all the groups. After 1 week, 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 8 weeks of consolidation, all the animals underwent X-ray and quantitative computed tomography (QCT). The new-formed bone in distraction gap was selected as regions of interest (ROI) to measure the bone mineral density(BMD). Then the rabbits were sacrificed and the new-formed bone samples were harvested to detect 3-point crushing strength.

RESULTSBMD of newly formed bone in group A, B and C was markedly higher than that in group D and E (P < 0.01). After 2 weeks of consolidation, BMD in group A was much higher than that in the other groups, but there was no difference between group B and C. After 4 weeks of consolidation, BMD in group A and B was markedly higher than that in group C, D and E (P < 0.01). After 8 weeks of consolidation, BMD in group A was markedly higher than that in the other groups. While the BMD was not significantly different between group B and C, but the BMD in group B and C was higher than that in group D and E (P < 0.01). After 4 weeks of consolidation, the 3-point crushing strength of newly formed bone in group A was markedly higher than that in group B,C, D and E (P < 0.01), which was still the same after 8 weeks of consolidation. And the crushing strength in group B was higher than that in group C, D and E (P < 0. 05).

CONCLUSIONSElectroporation-mediated transfection of recombinant plasmid pIRES-hVEGF165-hBMP2 could greatly enhance osteogenesis and calcification. A combination of VEGF and BMP may promote osteogenesis and angiogenesis simultaneously, so as to magnify the effect of each growth factor, resulting a synergetic effect.

To raise the syndrome sequence quantification, differentiation and classification algorithm based on data envelopment analysis for solving the modeling issue of syndrome differentiation and classification of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). This algorithm has three steps: first, in order to obtain basic units for explaining pathogenesis, and establish a syndrome collection on this basis mechanisms of syndrome differentiation and classification were analyzed and classified according to TCM theory, mechanisms of syndrome differentiation and classification were analyzed and classified according to TCM theory; second, regularity and syndromes of corresponding prescriptions were sought according to the incidence and development progress of syndromes, and mathematical tools of data envelopment analysis were used to calculate state data of syndromes in each stage and obtain quantitative syndrome sequence; finally, syndrome sequence was taken as the measurement standard to quantify candidate syndromes and diagnostic information, and the similarity was calculated to obtain the matching degree between diagnostic information and candidate syndromes, so as to complete the syndrome differentiation and classification calculation. According to the results of model-based reasoning, the algorithm could indicate the regularity implied in prescription materials, and grasp the dynamic process of syndromes in an all-round way, and its results were verified through calculation and analysis on clinical cases. At least, it provides an idea for quantitative modeling of TCM.

Spinal cord injuries include original injury and secondary injury. The aim of therapy is to prevent and reduce the secondary injury. The traditional therapy can alleviate the secondary injury of spinal cord through surgery that can both relieve the pressure of spinal cord and maintain the spinal stability with the internal fixation, medicine and hyperbaric oxygen therapy were applied together. But, the effect of neuroprotection and neurotization of traditional therapy is worse and the most of all is the environment in the spinal cord injury that make against the repairing. At present, the treatment of spinal cord injury with cell transplantation and gene therapy have made achievements in the animal experiment and have been simply tested in clinical. Cell transplantation and gene therapy have a great clinical utilization.

Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have active abilities of self-replication and multidifferentiation. In recent years, a lot of studies have proved that MSCs can be induced and differentiated into nerve-like cells under certain conditions. Because of some advaced characteristics including sampling convenience, no immune rejection, high transfection rate and stable exogenous gene expression, MSCs will provide new way in treating disease of nervous system. In this article, the research progress of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells differentiation into nerve-like cells induced by Traditional Chinese Medicine shall be discussed, and explore the research thinking guided by basis theory of TCM.

MP-Rep fusion gene which size is about 1000bp was constructed by recombinant PCR technique.In order to construct fusion gene,Tobacco mosaic virus(TMV) partial movement protein gene(MP) and Cucumber mosaic virus(CMV) partial replicase gene(rep) were ligated.Two copies of MP-Rep fusion gene were ligated with soybean intron in inverted repeat manner,the recombinant fragments were then inserted into binary vector pBIN438 under the control of 35S promoter.Recombinant clone pBIN438-MP-Rep(i/r) which contained two different virus derived genes was constructed.Recombinant clone pBIN438-MP-Rep(i/r) in accord with expected design was certified by restriction endonuclease enzymes digestion and PCR analysis.This approach provides a basis for Broad-spectrum plant virus resistance mediated by RNA Silencing.

OBJECTIVETo explore the effect of Telbivudine (LDT) Tablet combined with Jianpi Bushen Recipe (JBR) on serum hepatitis B virus (HBV) specific cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) and HBeAg seroconversion in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients.

METHODSTotally 90 HBeAg-positive and human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-A2 positive CHB patients were randomly assigned to the treatment group and the control group, 45 cases in each group. Patients in the treatment group took LDT Tablet (600 mg, once per day) combined with JBR granule (twice per day), while those in the control group took LDT Tablet alone. The therapeutic course for all was one year. HBV DNA negative conversion rate, HBeAg seroconversion rate, and level of HBV specific CTL were compared after 1 year treatment; liver function, drug resistance mutations, and adverse reactions were also compared between the two groups.

RESULTSAfter 1 year treatment, HBV DNA negative conversion rate and HBeAg seroconversion rate were 88.89% (40/45) and 40.00% (18/45) in the treatment group, higher than those of the control group [68.89% (31/45) and 20.00% (9/45)], with statistical difference (P < 0.05). Level of HBV specific CTL in the treatment group was 0.78% +/- 0.09% after treatment, higher than that of the control group after 1 year treatment (0.54% +/- 0.11%) and that before treatment (0.36% +/- 0.07%), with statistical difference (P < 0.01). Level of HBV specific CTL in 27 patients with HBeAg seroconversion was 0.81% 0.10%, higher than that of 63 patients without HBeAg seroconversion (0.60% +/- 0.09%), with statistical difference (P < 0.01). ALT returned to normal in 44 cases of the treatment group (97.78%), while it was 42 cases (93.33%) of the control group, with no statistical difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). Total bilirubin (TBil) in the two groups all turned to normal. rtM204I variation occurred in 1 case (2.22%) of the treatment group and 2 cases (4.44%) in the control group. No obvious adverse reaction occurred in the two groups.

CONCLUSIONLDT Tablet combined with JBR could elevate levels of HBV specific CTL and HBeAg seroconversion in CHB patients.

Transient forebrain ischemia-reperfusion(I/R);Brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF);Histone deacetylase 3(HDAC3);Hippocampus Objective To evaluate the effect of transient forebrain ischemia-reperfusion(I/R)on the binding of brainderived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)promoters to histone deacetylase 3(HDAC3)in the hippocampus of rat and investigate its mechanism.Methods The I/R model of SD rats(I/R group)was established by Pulsinelli four-vessel clamping method,and sham operation group(Sham group)was set at the same time,which were observed for the survival of neurons in the hippocampus of rats by Nissl staining,detected for the binding of BDNF promoters(Bdnf-p1,Bdnf-p2,Bdnf-p4 and Bdnf-p6)to HDAC3 by chromatin immunoprecipitation(ChIP)and determined for the expression of brain derived neurotrophic factor antisense(BDNF-AS)by qPCR.Results Compared with Sham group,the quantity of neurons in hippocampal CA1 region of rats decreased significantly in I/R group,while those in CA3 region and DG region showed no significant changes.The binding levels of Bdnf-p1 and Bdnf-p2 to HDAC3 in hippocampal CA1 region decreased significantly in I/R Group(t = 2.575 and 2.241 respectively,each P<0.05),while there was no significant difference in the binding levels of Bdnf-p4 and Bdnf-p6 to HDAC3(t = 1.033 and 0.348 respectively,each P>0.05);The binding levels of Bdnf-p1 and Bdnf-p2 to HDAC3 in CA3 region increased significantly(t = 12.600 and 3.191,P<0.001 and<0.05,respectively),while the binding level of Bdnf-p6 to HDAC3 decreased significantly(t = 4.029,P<0.05)and no significant difference was observed in the binding level of Bdnf-p4 to HDAC3(t = 0.175,P>0.05);In DG region,the binding level of each BDNF promoter to HDAC3 showed no significantly difference(t = 0.630 ～ 1.687,each P>0.05).Meanwhile,the expression level of BDNF-AS in hippocampal CA1 region of rats decreased significantly(t = 2.560,P<0.05),but increased significantly in hippocampal CA3 and DG regions(t = 3.543 and 3.637 respectively,each P<0.01)in I/R group.Conclusion I/R showed a significant effect on the binding level of BDNF promoter to HDAC3 in rat hippocampus,which may play a role by changing the expression level of BDNF-AS.

AIM: To investigate chemical constituents of Spatholobus suberectus Dunn. METHODS: Isolation and purification were carried out by column chromatographic methods. Compounds were characterized based on their physical characteristics and spectra data. RESULTS: Seventeen compounds were isolated from ethanol extract of S. suberectus. The structures were elucidated as prestegane B (1), (2R, 3R)-buteaspermanol (2), (+)-medioresinol (3), (2R, 3R)-3,7-dihydroxyflavanone (4), benzeneethanol (5), 4, 7, 2'-trihydroxy-4'-methoxyisoflavanol (6), naringenin (7), blumenol A (8), protocatechuic acid ethyl ester (9), liquiritigenin (10), 7, 4'-dihydroxy-8-methoxy-isoflavone (11), 3, 5, 7, 3', 5'-pentahydroxyflavanone (12), protocatechuic acid (13), glycyroside (14), 8-methylretusin-7-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (15), 3, 3', 4', 5, 6, 7, 8-heptahydroxyflavan (16), and dulcisflavan (17). CONCLUSION All compounds are firstly isolated from the title plant and compounds 1, 3 were isolated from the Spatholobus genus for the first time.
