OBJECTIVETo study the characteristics of articles, citations and authors in Chinese Journal of Burns (Chin J Burns).

METHODSThe date concerning articles, citations and authors of Chin J Burns from 2003 to 2005 were collected and analyzed in terms of bibliographic parameters.

RESULTSThere were 741 papers published in Chin J Burns during these 3 years, and papers with funded projects accounted for 19.7%. The average number of articles per issue was 41,with paper density of 0.59, and publication date were 15 months in average after submission. Among these papers, 87.9% of which were shared with co-authors, with a corporation rate of 3.94. The papers with citation accounted for 78.7%, and 90.6% of all the citations came from journals, especially English journals. The Price's indicator was 65.6%.

CONCLUSIONChinese Journal of Burns, an academic journal of high quality, with strong influence, pushes the discipline of Burns medicine in China forward.

OBJECTIVEThe present study was designed to explore the cited status and its correlated factors of articles published in Chinese Journal of Pediatrics.

METHODArticles published in Chinese Journal of Pediatrics from 2001 to 2010 were searched using Wanfang Medical Online database, and the relationship between cited number and column and funding status were analyzed.

RESULTSTotally 3209 articles were published by Chinese Journal of Pediatrics from 2001 to 2010. Two thousand and seventy-three articles (64.60%) were cited. The total cited number was 18 546 (mean rate: 5.78 per paper). Standard/protocol/guideline was the most often cited column (mean rate: 62.92 per paper). Featured articles including editorials (mean rate: 7.12 per paper), special articles (mean rate: 6.50 per paper) and original articles (mean rate: 7.90 per paper) had higher cited rate. Cited rate of original papers in featured articles was higher than other original articles (mean rate: 6.03 per paper). Those with academic perspectives, such as Opinion/Debate/Discussion, were well cited (mean rate: 7.09 per paper). All of original articles in Rapid Pathway were well cited (mean rate: 16.20 per paper). Mean cited number of grant-supported articles was 4.81 per paper, lower than that of all kinds of papers (mean rate: 5.78 per paper) and non-grant-supported articles (mean rate: 6.06 per paper). However, it was slightly higher than that of articles except Standard/protocol/guideline (mean rate: 4.36 per paper).

CONCLUSIONCited status varies among columns. The invited papers should be increased in number to raise commentary papers and original articles with high quality.Grant-supported or non-grant-supported papers should be reviewed based on the same standard after submission.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the quality of articles and the popularity of Chinese Journal of Pediatrics.

METHODSWith the database of Chinese Science & Technology Journal Citation Reports 2000-2003, the six indicators, including impact factor (IF), total cited numbers, immediate index, ratio of cited numbers by other journals to total cited numbers, number of citing journals, and cited half-life were evaluated and compared with other Chinese periodicals in pediatrics and related subjects. The cited numbers, distribution of cited areas, and cited institutions of published articles in Chinese Journal of Pediatrics 2000-2003 were analyzed.

RESULTSFrom 2000 to 2003, the impact factor of the Journal was 0.937, 1.025, 1.052, 1.252, total cited number was 1378, 1468, 1863 and 2396. Immediate index, citing journals, and cited half-life rose steadily, and the ratio of cited numbers by other journals to total cited numbers remained above 0.9. The average cited number of articles was 3.3. The cited authors were from 26 provinces or cities.

CONCLUSIONThe Chinese Journal of Pediatrics ranked at the top of Chinese pediatric journals with its highest IF and total cited numbers, which indicates that the journal has explicit editorial aims, stable continuity, and the increased influence in Chinese pediatric research. The stable growth of immediate index, number of citing journals and cited half-life show that the Journal has a high rate of reflection, the articles published in the Journal were paid more attention and have influenced researchers for longer periods and widely. The higher rate of citation by others and lower self-cited rate indicate that the Journal has been rigorous and realistic in editorial practice. The Journal is demonstrated to be one of the main medical core periodicals and one of the most important information sources in the field of pediatrics in China.

OBJECTIVETo analyze and evaluate the quality and academic level of the Chinese Journal of gastrointestinal surgery.

METHODSBased on the data from WanFang data, a statistical research was carried out with the methods of bibliometrics and citation analysis to investigate the Details of the papers from Chinese Journal of gastrointestinal surgery cited by other journal articles.The important analysis indexes included number of published papers, number of cited papers, citation frequency, citation time distribution and difference, authors and citation journal distribution, etc.

RESULTSOf all the 1442 papers published by the Chinese Journal of gastrointestinal surgery. From 2007 to 2011, 392 papers are cited, which account for about 27.18% of all cited numbers with total cited 998 times .. Immediacy index from 2009-2011 were respectively 0.08, 0.04 and 0.08. Cited half-life was 0.08 in 2011.

CONCLUSIONA relatively large proportion of papers published in the journal have ever been cited, indicating that the whole quality of the journal is considerably high. But due to its relatively short history of publication the journal still lacks papers with deep impact and great significance.

For the first time, the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology published an analysis report of Chinese papers indexed in MEDLINE, which indicates that the Chinese government is paying more and more attention to the role of MEDLINE in the evaluation of scientific research. A total of 4 959 journals are listed in the Lists of Journals Indexed in MEDLINE (2006) published by National Library of Medicine, USA (NLM), of which 95 are published in China (including Hong Kong and Taiwan) and 2 another Chinese periodicals are published abroad. To familiarize MEDLINE to more medical researchers and to help them contribute to the journals indexed in MEDLINE, this article lists the top 10 Chinese medical institution whose published papers were indexed in MEDLINE in 2004 along with the Chinese periodicals indexed in MEDLINE in 2006. And the status of MEDLINE in China is briefly analyzed as well.

OBJECTIVETo carry out the citation analysis of publications in Chinese Journal of Preventive Medicine (CJPM) among the preventive medicine authors and analyze the impact of this magazine in preventive medicine domain.

METHODSUsing Chinese scientific periodical literature evaluation and statistical analysis system (V1.0), the citation status of all CJPM publications in 2000-2005 was analyzed, the analysis covered 21 columns, including the review, editorial and original article, the data were collected up to November, 2007.

RESULTSFrom 2000 to 2005, CJPM had more than 30 columns and carried 1196 articles and 92. 89% (1111/1196) articles were from 21 main columns. During 2003 to 2005, the impact factors of CJPM were 0. 897, 1.011 and 0. 891 respectively. Among 21 main columns, the citation frequency of six columns including original article, editorial, review, courses, discussion and case report were higher than 80%. In five columns (original article, editorial, report, review and academic trends), the average citation frequency of individual articles was more than 4 times. The citation frequency of 20 authors was higher than 20 times and these authors were from medical schools, teaching hospitals, centers of diseases control and the research institutes. The individual citation frequency of 17 articles was more than 20 times and the individual citation frequency of three articles was more than 50 times. 34.9% of the citations of the 2000-2005 CJPM articles were from the top 20 journals, and the self-citation rate was 4. 85%.

CONCLUSIONThe publications in Chinese Journal of Preventive Medicine are most frequently cited, which indicated that those publications have high quality, this journal has a great effect in preventive medicine field of China.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the academic level and influence of "Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology" through statistical analysis for the fund sponsored articles published in the recent ten years.

METHODSThe articles of "Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology" from 1999 to 2008 were investigated. The number and the percentage of the fund sponsored articles, the fund organization and the author region were quantitatively analyzed by using the literature metrology method.

RESULTSThe number of the fund sponsored articles increased unceasingly. The ratio of the fund from local government significantly enhanced in the latter five years. Most of the articles were from institutes located at Beijing, Zhejiang and Tianjin.

CONCLUSION"Chinese Journal of Applied Physiology" has a fine academic level and social influence.
