OBJECTIVETo find an effective therapy for periarthritis of shoulder.
METHODSSixty cases were divided into two groups, 30 cases in each group. They were treated by acupuncture at pain point combined with moxibustion at Zusanli (ST 36) and routine acupuncture, respectively. Pain of the shoulder and movement functions of shoulder joints were used as indexes of therapeutic effects and their therapeutic effects were compared.
RESULTSThe total effective rate was 96.7% in the treatment group and 90.0% in the routine group with no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05); the cured rate in the two groups were 46.7% and 20.0% respectively with a significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.05). There were statistically significant differences between the two groups in improvement of movement function of shoulder joints and alleviation of pain (both P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONAcupuncture at pain points combined with moxibustion at Zusanli (ST 36) in increase of the cured rate and alleviation of pain, and improvement of movement function of shoulder joints is better than the routine acupuncture and moxibustion for treatment of periarthritis of shoulder.

OBJECTIVETo study the basic therapeutic function of Tiaokou (ST 38).
METHODSAccording to clinically multi-central randomized controlled and single-blind test principle, 257 cases of periarthritis of shoulder were divided into two groups, a test group (n = 124) treated with oral anti-inflammatory analgesic medicine combined with acupuncture at Tiaokou (ST 38), and a control group (n = 133) treated with oral anti-inflammatory analgesic medicine. Their therapeutic effects were compared.
RESULTSThe total effective rate for stopping pain was 96.0% in the test group and 91.7% in the control group with a very significant difference between the two groups (P< 0.01). And the total effective rate for improvement of shoulder activity was 86.3% in the test group and 59.4% in the control group with a very significant difference between the two groups (P<0.01).
CONCLUSIONOral anti-inflammatory analgesic medicine combined with acupuncture has obvious therapeutic effect on periarthritis of shoulder, which is better than that of simple oral anti-inflammatory analgesic medicine.

6.Acupoint position and manipulation of needle knife treating shoulder bi syndrome.
Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2016;36(3):299-302
With Jianyu (LI 15), Jianliao (TE 14) and Jianzhen (SI 9) for instance, the three acupoints used to treat shoulder bi syndrome by needle knife, and through traceability and researching constant structure, the acupoint position, insertion trace, manipulation and clinical significance of needle knife medicine were discussed. Accurate position is one of the characteristics of acupoints selection of needle knife medicine. As for the acupoints selection method, the mean of body surface localization is always used. The phanerous or palpable bone processes, muscles and tendons are taken as positioning marks; pressing areas where appear sour, numb, or distensible and other sensations is considered as the principle of press positioning. So acupoints position method is the combination of observation and palpation. Different insertion methods can effectively relieve the accretive bursae synovialis, tendon, joint capsule and the compressed nerve, so that shoulder bi syndrome is relieved.

9.Clinical observation on shoulder periarthritis treated with Bo's abdominal acupuncture in stages.
Chinese Acupuncture & Moxibustion 2012;32(1):26-30
OBJECTIVETo probe an effective therapeutic method for the treatment of shoulder periarthritis.
METHODSNinety-six patients were randomly divided into an acupuncture group and an abdominal acupuncture group, 48 cases in each. According to clinical pathological staging, the disease was divided into pain stage and adhesion stage. In abdominal acupuncture group, 24 cases were in pain stage and treated with acupuncture at Zhongwan (CV 12), Shangqu (KI 17) on the healthy side, Huaroumen (ST 24) on the affected side and others; 24 cases were in adhesion stage and treated with acupuncture at Zhongwan (CV 12), Xiawan (CV 10), Qihai (CV 6), Guanyuan (CV 4) and others. In acupuncture group, there were 24 cases in either pain stage or adhesion stage, treated with acupuncture at Jianyu (LI 15), Jianliao (TE 14), Jianzhen (SI 9) and others on the affected side. In either group, the treatment was given three times a week, three weeks treatment made one session, 9 treatments totally. Before and after treatment, the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) was adopted for pain assessment and functional activity score (Melle score) was for shoulder joint function assessment for all the patients.
RESULTSAfter one session treatment, the efficacy was compared between two groups. In abdominal acupuncture group, the total effective rates were 95.8% (23/24) and 91.7% (22/24) in pain stage and adhesion stage respectively. In acupuncture group, the total effective rates were 91.7% (22/24) and 79.2% (19/24) in pain stage and adhesion stage respectively. The efficacy in adhesion stage of abdominal acupuncture group was better than that in acupuncture group (P < 0.05). After treatment, VAS score and Melle score were all reduced as compared with those before treatment in either group (all P < 0.01), in which, the reducing ranges in abdominal acupuncture group were larger than those in acupuncture group (all P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONAbdominal acupuncture achieves a significant efficacy on shoulder periarthritis in stages. It is an effective therapy for shoulder periarthritis.
