OBJECTIVE: To explore the application of mixed reality technique for the surgery of oral and maxillofacial tumors. METHODS: In this study, patients with a diagnosis of an oral and maxillofacial tumor who were referred to Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology from December 2018 to January 2020 were selected. The preoperative contrast-enhanced computed tomography data of the patients were imported into StarAtlas Holographic Medical Imaging System (Visual 3D Corp., Beijing, China). Three-dimensional (3D) model of tumor and key structures, such as skeleton and vessels were reconstructed to three-dimensionally present the spatial relationship between them, followed with the key structures delineation and preoperative virtual surgical planning. By using mixed reality technique, the real-time 3D model was displayed stereotactically in the surgical site. While keeping sterile during operation, the surgeon could use simple gestures to adjust the 3D model, and observed the location, range, and size of tumor and the key structures adjacent to the tumor. Mixed reality technique was used to assist the operation: 3D model registration was performed for guidance before tumor excision; intraoperative real-time verification was performed during tumor exposure and after excision of the tumor. The Likert scale was used to evaluate the application of mixed reality technique after the operation. RESULTS: Eight patients underwent mixed reality assisted tumor resection, and all of them successfully completed the operation. The average time of the 3D model registration was 12.0 minutes. In all the cases, the surgeon could intuitively and three-dimensionally observe the 3D model of the tumor and the surrounding anatomical structures, and could adjust the model during the operation. The results of the Likert scale showed that mixed reality technique got high scores in terms of perceptual accuracy, helping to locate the anatomical parts, the role of model guidance during surgery, and the potential for improving surgical safety (4.22, 4.19, 4.16, and 4.28 points respectively). Eight patients healed well without perioperative complications. CONCLUSION By providing real-time stereotactic visualization of anatomy of surgical site and guiding the operation process through 3D model, mixed reality technique could improve the accuracy and safety of the excision of oral and maxillofacial tumors.

Objective To investigate the short-term efficacy,survival rate of docetaxel + cisplatin + 5-fluorouracil (DCF) and docetaxel + cisplatin (DP) combined with chemo-radiotherapy regimens in patients with stage Ⅲ-ⅣB nasopharyngeal carcinoma.Methods A total of 230 patients with Ⅲ-Ⅳ B nasopharyngeal carcinoma in our hospital were randomly divided into treatment group and control group,115 cases in each group.Control group were received concurrent radiotherapy and chemotherapy for 3 courses.On 1-3 d,patients were treated with intravenous infusion docetaxel (DTX) 100 mg · m-2,on second day intravenous infusion cisplatin (DDP) 75 mg · m-2,and 21 d a course.Treatment group were received 2 courses of radiotherapy and chemotherapy.On the first day,patients were given intravenous infusion docetaxel 75 mg · m-2,cisplatin 75 mg · m-2,1-5 d intravenous infusion 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) 750 mg · m-2,and 21 d a course.During the treatment,the blood was examined every week,heart,lung and kidney function was reexamined every 2 weeks.The short-term efficacy,nasopharyngeal lesions and neck metastasis,lymph node regression,adverse drug reactions and survival rate were observed in two groups.Results After treatment,the tumor target volume in treatment group was (36.44 ± 4.29) cm3,the reduction rate was 25.63％,had no significant difference with those in control group,which were (36.36 ±5.10)cm3,25.92％ (P ＞0.05).The response rates of control group and treatment group were 99.13％ and 100.00％ (P ＞ 0.05).Patients in grade Ⅲ and Ⅳ stratified analysis showed that the overall survival(OS),metastasis free survival (MFS),tumor recurrent free survival (TRFS) in grade Ⅲ had significant difference in two groups (P ＜0.05).The OS,MFS,disease free survival (DFS) of grade Ⅳ in two groups all had significant difference (P ＜ 0.05).The incidence of leucopenia,hemoglobin decreased,thrombocytopenia,nausea,vomiting and mucositis in two groups had significant difference (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion Compared with DP and concurrent radiotherapy,DCF chemotherapy and concurrent radiotherapy can prolong the overall survival rate of patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma,but increase the incidence of adverse drug reactions.There is no significant difference between the two groups in short-term clinical effect.

OBJECTIVESTo detect the expression of Cathepsin B (CatB) in the intracranial aneurysm wall and its effect to the apoptosis of vascular smooth muscle cells, aimed at clarifying the pathological formation mechanism of intracranial aneurysm.

METHODSFrom November 2006 to February 2009, 20 intracranial aneurysm samples were collected as the experimental group, and 6 cases of normal pallium artery samples were collected as the control group. Immunohistochemical technique was used to evaluate the expressions of CatB, alpha-smooth muscle actin (alpha-SMA) and Caspase-3. The expression of CatB mRNA was evaluated by real-time PCR. The ultrastructure of intracranial aneurysms were observed by using the transmission electronic microscope.

RESULTSCompared with the normal pallium artery specimens, the expression of CatB and Caspase-3 both significantly increased in the intracranial aneurysm walls where alpha-SMA decreased (P < 0.05). The mean expression of CatB mRNA in intracranial aneurysm samples was about 3.8-folds than that in control group (P < 0.01). There were excessive apoptotic vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) in the tunica median, and typical apoptotic body were observed in some aneurysm walls.

CONCLUSIONCathepsin B may be involved in the formation and the progression of intracranial aneurysm.

Objective To examine the association between self-assessed somatotypes and depression related symptoms.Methods The study sample included 5555 students aged 9 to 18 years who had attended the Physical Fitness and Health Surveillance of Chinese School Students(2010)in Chizhou city,Anhui province.Association between self-assessed somatotypes,body mass index(BMI)and depression symptom were examined.Results There was a slight consistency between self-assessed somatotypes and BMI in both boys and girls(Kappa=0.217,P=0.000; Kappa=0.203,P=0.000).Significant difference in the prevalence of depression was found among weight misperception groups in both genders(x2=145.223,P=0.000).The prevalence of umderestimation of somatotypes was significantly higher in boys than in girls,while the result was reversive on the prevalence of overestimation.Additionally,the prevalence of depression was higher in girls than in boys(x2=5.199,P=0.023).Through logistic regression,data showed that self-assessed somatotypes and miscalculated groups were significantly associated with depressive symptoms.Compared to the group that self-assessment as being normal,those students when self-assessed as being slim,overweight or obesity were more likely to be depressive,with odds ratio(ORs)as 1.255(95％CI:1.066-1.478),1.538(95％CI:1.275-1.856)and 1.713(95％ CI:1.035-2.834),respectively.Overestimated and underestimated somatotypes appeared to be risk factors causing symptoms of depression(OR=1.705,95％CI:1.382-2.105; OR=1.241,95％CI:1.059-1.454).Conclusion Slight consistency was found between self-assessed somatotypes and BMI,while the misjudged somatotypes were the risk factor related to depressive symptoms.It was suggested that life skills education should be carried out as preventive intervention approach,to improve the physical and mental health well-being of children and adolescents.

Objective To investigate the association between psychological sub-healthy status and risks on injuries and related predictors among adolescents in China,in order to develop reasonable intervention programs.Methods Adolescents were selected from middle schools and colleges in eight cities.Baseline status on sub-healthy that related to psycho-pathology was measured using the Multidimensional Sub-health Questionnaire of Adolescents (MSQA).Data on Self- or unintentional injuries were collected using a standardized injury surveillance questionnaire every 3 months,for three times (T0,T1,T2 and T3).Results A total of 12 113 students completed the study.Prevalence rates related to self-injury among boys and girls were 19.4％ and 19.9％,respectively.The rates of having more than 4 types of self-injuries in boys and girls were 4.7％ and 4.2％,respectively.Boys had a significantly higher unintentional injury rate than that of girls (62.2％ vs.57.3％ ).The differences in the rates of having more than 4 types of unintentional injury between boys (3.8％) and girls (3.4％) were also statistically significant.Rates on self- and unintentional-injuries increased in T1,T2 and T3 when the psychological symptoms had an increase.Data from Multiple regression analysis demonstrated that the baseline psychological sub-healthy status was a predictive factor for higher risk of self- and unintentional- injuries at each of the follow-up waves.Conclusion Sub-healthy status of psycho-pathology was associated with an increased risk on self-and unintentional injuries among adolescents.Integrative psycho-pathological and behavioralintervention programs might help in reducing the risk of injuries among the Chinese adolescents.

Objective: To determine protein binding characteri stic and signal transmission pathway of melatonin（Mel） receptor(MR) in human e mbryonic peripheral organ tissues. Methods: MR was measured by radio ligand-binding assay and the effect of GTPγS on melatonin specific bindi ng was studied. Results: Mel specific binding sites were det ermined in 16 kinds of human embryonic tissue and this binding could be inhibit ed by GTPγS, supporting the theory that MR is coupled to inhibitory G-proteins system. Conclusion: MR is measured in human embryo tissue, the se results provide experimental data for elucidating the mechanism of the effect of Mel.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the interference effect of nicotinamide on UVA-induced melanin genesis and melanin transport in human skin melanocyte.

METHODSThe optimum UVA dose expected to cause cell proliferation: 0.2 J/cm(2), nicotinamide was added immediately after the 0.2 J/cm(2) UVA exposure and the melanin content, cell cycles, cell apoptosis and mRNA express level were measured respectively.

RESULTSMelanin content in melanocytes was increased significantly after exposed to 0.2 J/cm(2) UVA. Melanin content in melanocytes was decreased after treatment with 10.0 mmol/ml nicotinamide following UVA exposure, but the cell cycles and the cell apoptosis rate were not significantly altered. mRNA express levels of TYR, TRP-1 were modulated by nicotinamide.

CONCLUSIONNicotinamide has more effect on decreasing melanin genesis after UVA exposure, nicotinamide also plays a role in modulating the mRNA express of TYR, TRP-1 gene. It is possible to consider nicotinamide as an efficient and safe sun screen to provide a certain level of protection for UVA exposed skin.

BACKGROUNDChronic hepatic inflammation is characterized by the accumulation of lymphocytes as a consequence of increased recruitment from the blood and retention within the tissue at sites of infection. CXC chemokine ligand 16 (CXCL16) mRNA has been detected in both inflamed and normal liver tissues and is strongly upregulated in the injured liver tissues in a murine model. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of cefodizime on CXCL16 mRNA of liver tissues in mice with immunological hepatic injury.

METHODSThe murine model of immunological hepatic injury was induced by Bacillus Calmette Guerin and Lipoposaccharide. The mice with immunological hepatic injury were randomly assigned to the model group, the cefodizime group and the ceftriaxone group. The three groups were continuously given agents for seven days and CXCL16 mRNA of liver tissue was determined and contrasted with the control group treated by normal saline. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction was used to assay CXCL16 mRNA levels in liver tissues.

RESULTSThe expressions of CXCL16 mRNA were significantly higher in the model group and the ceftriaxone group than in the control group and the cefodizime group (P < 0.05), indicating the mice in the model group and the ceftriaxone group were immunodeficient. There was no statistical difference in the expressions of CXCL16 mRNA between the control group and the cefodizime group. Similarly, no statistical difference in the expressions of CXCL16 mRNA between the model group and the ceftriaxone group was detected (P > 0.05).

CONCLUSIONCefodizime effectively reduces the infiltration of lymphocytes into liver tissues and alleviates the liver damage by decreasing CXCL16 mRNA in liver tissues in mice with immunological hepatic injury.

OBJECTIVESTo investigate intensity of extremely low frequency magnetic field (ELFMF) emitted from cathode-ray tubes (CRT) of monitors in various directions and to find ways to avoid its influence.

METHODSTwo hundred CRT monitors and 10 monitors with liquid-crystal display (LCD) were selected. Their ELFMF was detected for three times in front of the monitor at an interval of every 5 cm from 0 cm to 50 cm, as well as at various directions from the monitor.

RESULTSIntensity of ELFMF significantly attenuated at regular operating position (30 - 40 cm) from 0 cm to 50 cm in front of both 38 cm and 43 cm CRT monitors (P < 0.05). Intensity exceeded 0.4 microT both within 15 cm and 10 cm in front of 38 cm and 43 cm monitors. The highest intensity was found at the upright top position of both kinds of monitors, 9.54 microT for 38 cm monitor and 6.38 microT for 43 cm one, respectively.

CONCLUSIONSIt is suggested to keep away from monitor screen as possible when operating a computer, to reduce unnecessary operation in front of a monitor screen, and to shorten operating time. To avoid more hazards from interactive interference between computers, it is necessary to increase distance between monitors.
