OBJECTIVETo explore the correlation of multi-slice CT findings to the clinical staging and prognosis of intestinal obstruction due to mesenteric blood vessel infarction.
METHODSFifty-four patients with intestinal obstruction resulting from infarction of the mesenteric vein or artery underwent multi-slice CT scanning, and the CT findings were analyzed for their relation with the intestinal ischemia and prognosis.
RESULTSSixteen patients were confirmed to have mesenteric arterial thrombosis (29%) and 40 had mesenteric venous thromboses (71%) by multi-slice CT scanning. The total mortality rate was 29%, of which mesenteric artery infarction took up 87% and mesenteric vein infarction 5%. The prognosis of the patients was closely related to the cause of the bowel infarction. Such CT findings as increased intensity of the intestinal canal and decreased enhancement and thickening of the bowel wall indicated favorable prognosis, whereas the signs of paper-thin wall sign, fecal sign, pneumatosis of the bowel wall, mesenteric veno gas and pneumoperitoneum all suggested poor prognosis.
CONCLUSIONMulti-slice CT scanning can identify mesenteric blood vessel infarction resulting in intestinal obstruction, and the CT signs can offer objective and valuable information for clinical staging and prognostic evaluation.

We constructed the AFP promotor, suicide gene and EGFP eukaryotic expression vector recombinant plasmid, and this plasmid DNA was encapsulated by biodegradable, biocompatible polymer PLGA to prepare nanoparticles. The results demonstrate that the mean diameter of DNA-PLGA-NP is 68 nm, the encapsulation ratio reaches to 80%, and the PLGA nanoparticles can protect plasmid DNA from digestion by deoxyribonuclease I (DNaseI) and sonication-induced shearing in vitro.

OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of rhynchophylline on methamphetamine-dependent zebrafish and explore the possible mechanism.
METHODSZebrafish were divided into control group, amphetamine group, low- (50 mg/kg) and high (100 mg/kg)-dose rhynchophylline groups, and ketamine (150 mg/kg) group. Conditioned place preference (CPP) was induced in zebrafish with methamphetamine, and the staying time in the drug box and the tracking map of the zebrafish were observed with Noldus Ethovision XT system. The protein expressions of TH, NR2B and GLUR2 in the brain of zebrafish with CPP were detected with Western blotting.
RESULTSCompared with the control group, zebrafish in methamphetamine group showed significant variations in the staying time and swimming distance in the drug box after conditioning (P<0.05) with obvious alterations of NR2B, TH and GLUR2 expressions in the brain (P<0.05). Treatment of methamphetamine-dependent zebrafish with high-dose rhynchophylline significantly reduced the variations in the staying time and swimming distance in the drug box (P<0.05) and in the expressions of NR2B, TH and GLUR2 in the brain (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONRhynchophylline can inhibit methamphetamine dependence in zebrafish, the mechanism of which may involve the expressions of TH, NR2B and GLUR2 proteins in the brain.

5. Progress of bedside ultrasound in cardiac arrest
Journal of Medical Postgraduates 2019;32(5):557-560
Cardiac arrest is the most critical condition for patients. Early identification of the cause of cardiac arrest and timely intervention on different causes are the key to treatment. Bedside ultrasound can simply, quickly, and effectively assess the cause of cardiac arrest, select the appropriate tracheal tube for the patient, confirm the position of the endotracheal tube, confirm the position of the endotracheal tube, and effectively evaluate the effect of mechanical ventilation and organ resuscitation after interventions. This article reviews bedside ultrasound in identifying the reversible causes of cardiac arrest, airway management, and evaluating organ function after resuscitation.

OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the therapeutic effect of Epothilone D on traumatic optic neuropathy (TON) in rats.
METHODS:
Forty-two SD rats were randomized to receive intraperitoneal injection of 1.0 mg/kg Epothilone D or DMSO (control) every 3 days until day 28, and rat models of TON were established on the second day after the first administration. On days 3, 7, and 28, examination of flash visual evoked potentials (FVEP), immunofluorescence staining and Western blotting were performed to examine the visual pathway features, number of retinal ganglion cells (RGCs), GAP43 expression level in damaged axons, and changes of Tau and pTau-396/404 in the retina and optic nerve.
RESULTS:
In Epothilone D treatment group, RGC loss rate was significantly decreased by 19.12% (P=0.032) on day 3 and by 22.67% (P=0.042) on day 28 as compared with the rats in the control group, but FVEP examination failed to show physiological improvement in the visual pathway on day 28 in terms of the relative latency of N2 wave (P=0.236) and relative amplitude attenuation of P2-N2 wave (P=0.441). The total Tau content in the retina of the treatment group was significantly increased compared with that in the control group on day 3 (P < 0.001), showing a consistent change with ptau-396/404 level. In the optic nerve axons, the total Tau level in the treatment group was significantly lower than that in the control group on day 7 (P=0.002), but the changes of the total Tau and pTau-396/404 level did not show an obvious correlation. Epothilone D induced persistent expression of GAP43 in the damaged axons, detectable even on day 28 of the experiment.
CONCLUSION
Epothilone D treatment can protect against TON in rats by promoting the survival of injured RGCs, enhancing Tau content in the surviving RGCs, reducing Tau accumulation in injured axons, and stimulating sustained regeneration of axons.

Objective To explore the association of cardiac disease associated genetic variants and the high incidence of Yunnan sudden unexplained death (YNSUD) in Yi nationality. Methods The genomic DNA was extracted from peripheral blood samples collected from 205 Yi villagers from YNSUD aggregative villages (inpatient group) and 197 healthy Yi villagers from neighboring villages (control group). Fifty-two single nucleotide variants (SNVs) of 25 cardiac disease associated genes were genotyped using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS). The SPSS 17.0 was used to analyze data. The pathogenicities of variants with differences between the two groups that have statistical significance were predicted by protein function prediction software PolyPhen-2 and SIFT. All villagers from inpatient group were given electrocardiogram (ECG) examination using a 12-lead electrocardiograph. Results The allele frequency and the genotype frequency of missense mutation DSG2 (rs2278792, c.2318G>A, p.R773K) of pathogenic genes of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) in inpatient group was higher than that in control group (P<0.05). Abnormal ECG changes were detected in 71 individuals (34.6%) in the inpatient group, among which 54 individuals carried R773K mutation, including clockwise (counterclockwise) rotation, left (right) axis deviation, ST segment and T wave alteration and heart-blocking. Conclusion Definite pathogenic mutations have not been found in the 52 cardiac disease genes associated SNVs detected in Yi nationality in regions with high incidence of YNSUD. The cause of high incidence of YNSUD in Yi nationality needs further study.
