Objective:To investigate the causes, characteristics and treatment of maxillofacial trauma in children. Methods: A retrospective analysis of 470 consecutive maxillofacial records of the patients not older than 14 years was conducted. Data regarding age, gender, cause, anatomic site and treatment were reviewed. Results:Most of the patients were mals(335 cases, 71.3% ), with a male and female ratio of approximately 2. 5;1 of the injuries, 28. 5% were due to accidental falls, 17.0% traffic accidents and 10.0% sharp implementt cutting. Injuries of soft tissue often occurred on gingiva, cheek, lip and chin. Mandibuir fratures were the most common (55.1% ) of all bone fractures. Conservative therapy, such as closed reduction surgery, maxillomandibular fixation, was usually performed. Conclusion: ①Boys are more tendent to be victims of maxillofacial trauma than girls. ②Falls are the first cause of child victims. ③Gingiva, chin, lip, check and mandible are the most commonly injuried sites.

Methods:
Salmonella isolates were collected from diarrheal patients in Zhengzhou municipal sentinel hospitals from 2017 to 2021. Salmonella serotypes were identified using slide agglutination test and soft agar colony formation assay, and antimicrobial susceptibility test was performed using the broth micro-dilution method.
Results:
Five serogroups and 37 serotypes were identified among 446 non-typhoidal Salmonella isolates, with S. enteritidis (210 isolates, 47.09%) and S. typhimurium (133 isolates, 29.82%) as dominant serotypes. Non-typhoidal Salmonella showed high resistance to ampicillin (79.60%), ampicillin/sulbactam (58.74%), naphthyric acid (56.05%), tetracycline (54.26%) and doxycycline (54.04%), respectively. There were 290 multidrug-resistant Salmonella isolates (65.02%), and the multidrug resistance rates were 70.48% for S. enteritidis and 67.67% for S. typhimurium, respectively.
Conclusions
Multiple serotypes of non-typhoidal Salmonella were identified in Zhengzhou City from 2017 to 2021, with S. enteritidis and S. typhimurium as dominant serotypes. Widespread drug resistance and multidrug resistance was seen in non-typhoidal Salmonella.

The effects of combined RNA interference (RNAi) of human telomerase RNA (hTR) and human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) genes on telomerase activity in a bladder cancer cell line (BIU-87 cells) were investigated by using gene chip technology in vitro with an attempt to evaluate the role of RNAi in the gene therapy of bladder transitional cell cancer (BTCC). Three TR-specific double-stranded small interfering RNAs (siRNAs) and three TERT-specific double-stranded siRNAs were designed to target different regions of TR and TERT mRNA. The phTR-siRNA, phTERT-siRNA, and the combination of both plasmids phTR+phTERT-siRNA were transfected into BIU-87 cells. The expression of hTR and hTERT mRNA was detected by quantitative fluorescent reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, and a telomeric repeat amplification protocol was applied to detect telomerase activity. Growth inhibition of BIU-87 cells was measured by MTT assay. Gene chip analysis was performed to evaluate the effects of the combined RNAi of hTR+hTERT genes on telomerase activity and growth of BIU-87 cells in vitro. The results showed that the expression of hTERT and hTR mRNA was inhibited by pRNAT-hTERT-III, pRNAT-hTR-III, and pRNAT-hTR-III+hTERT-III in BIU-87 cells. The inhibition efficiency of pRNAT-hTERT-III, pRNAT-hTR-III, pRNAT-hTERT-III+pRNAT-hTR-III was 67% for TERT mRNA, 41% for TR mRNA, 57% for TR mRNA and 70% for TERT mRNA in BIU-87 cells respectively. The growth of BIU-87 cells was inhibited and telomerase activity was considerably decreased, especially in the cells treated with combined RNAi-hTR and -hTERT. Gene chip analysis revealed that 21 genes were down-regulated (ATM, BAX, BCL2, BCL2L1, BIRC5, CD44, CTNNB1, E2F1, JUN, MCAM, MTA1, MYC, NFKB1, NFKBIA, NME4, PNN, PNN, SERPINE1, THBS1, TNFRSF1A, and UCC1). The results indicated that hTR-siRNA and hTERT-siRNA, especially their combination, siRNA hTR+hTERT, specifically and effectively suppressed the expression of both hTR and hTERT mRNA and telomerase activity. Molecular biological mechanism by which combined siRNA-TR and -TERT inhibited telomerase activity and growth of BIU-87 cells in vitro may involve the down-regulation of the 21 genes.

Objective:
To analyze the pathogenic spectrum of infectious diarrhea among children in Zhengzhou City in 2020, so as to provide insights into the management of childhood infectious diarrhea.
Methods:
A total of 230 stool samples were collected from children with diarrhea in the Diarrhea Clinic of Zhengzhou Municipal Children's Hospital in 2020. Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli, Salmonella, Shigella, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Campylobacter and Aeromonas were isolated. Salmonella was typed using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis ( PFGE ) and antimicrobial resistance was tested in Salmonella. The main types and drug resistance of pathogens were descriptively analyzed.
Results:
The 230 children with diarrhea included 152 males and 78 females, with a male to female ratio of 1.95∶1. There were 173 cases at ages of 3 years and below ( 75.22% ), and 82 cases seen between June and August ( 35.65% ). A total of 71 pathogenic bacteria strains were isolated, with a detection rate of 30.87%. Salmonella was the most frequently isolated pathogen ( 35 strains, 15.22% prevalence ), following by diarrheagenic E. coli ( 20 strains, 8.70% ). Eleven serotypes of Salmonella were identified, which mainly included S. enteritidis and S. typhimurium. PFGE typing revealed 25 band patterns of Salmonella, with a similarity ranging from 11.85% to 100%. Salmonella were sensitive to imipenem, meropenem, polymyxin B and amikacin and highly resistant to streptomycin ( 85.71% ), ampicillin ( 80.00% ) and sulfaisoxazole ( 80.00% ). A 82.86% proportion of multi-drug resistance was detected in the 29 Salmonella strains.
Conclusions
A wide range of pathogenic bacteria were detected from the childhood infectious diarrhea in Zhengzhou City in 2020, which mainly included Salmonella and diarrheagenic E. coli. A high polymorphism level was seen in PFGE fingerprints of Salmonella, which presented high-level resistance to antimicrobial agents.

Aim To investigate the effects of Naotai formula extract(NTE)on the expression of heme oxygenase-1(HO-1) and hephaestin(Heph) in hippocampus of rats after cerebral ischemia/reperfusion by Keap1-Nrf2/ARE signaling pathway. Methods Eighty rats were randomly divided into five groups as follows: sham operation group(Sham), cerebral ischemia/reperfusion group(I/R), low dose group of NTE(4.5 g·kg-1), middle dose group of NTE (9 g·kg-1) and high dose group of NTE(18 g·kg-1).Rats were pretreated by intragastric administration for three consecutive days, and then subjected to middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) 2 hours before reperfusion. The rats were administered with intragastric administration for two days. After cerebral ischemia reperfusion 72 hours, the behavioral activity of rats was recorded by Zea Longa neurological score, and the infarct volume was measured by TTC staining. The expressions of Nrf2, HO-1 and Heph in hippocampus of cerebral ischemia reperfusion rats were observed by real-time quantitative PCR and Western blot, respectively. Results Compared with model group, the neurobehavioral scores significantly decreased in NTE high-dose and middle-dose groups (P<0.01);the infarct volume of NTE groups markedly decreased (P<0.01);the expression of HO-1 mRNA apparently increased (P<0.05) in NTE groups;the expression of Heph mRNA significantly increased in NTE middle-dose and high-dose groups (P<0.05);the expression of Nrf2 and Heph protein evidently increased in the NTE middle and high dose groups (P<0.05, P<0.01);and the expression of HO-1 protein also increased in NTE groups(P<0.01).Conclusions Naotai formula can relieve cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury. The mechanism might be associated with activating Keap1-Nrf2/ARE signaling pathways, promoting HO-1 generation, advancing the expression of Heph, and then reducing brain iron deposition, to achieve the protection of neurons after cerebral ischemia-reperfusion.

This study aimed to investigate infiltration related microRNAs (miRNAs) in bladder urothelial carcinoma (BUC). Twenty patients with BUC were enrolled and divided into 2 groups according to infiltration or not: infiltrating BUC group (n=12) and non-infiltrating BUC group (n=8). Gene chip was used to detect infiltration related miRNAs in the BUC samples. In other recruited 17 patients with BUC who were divided into infiltrating BUC samples (n=14) and non-infiltrating BUC samples (n=3), and in 4 BUC cell lines (EJ, 5637, T24 and BIU-87), the expression of miRNAs was assayed by using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). In infiltrating BUC group, as compared with non-infiltrating BUC group, there were 7 differentially expressed miRNAs: hsa-miR-29c, hsa-miR-200a, hsa-miR-378, hsa-miR-429, hsa-miR-200c and hsa-miR-141 were up-regulated, while hsa-miR-451 was down-regulated. In the BUC samples, the results of RT-PCR were consistent with those by the miRNA array. In the cancer cell lines, RT-PCR in T24 only revealed the similar expression pattern of miRNAs to that by the miRNA array. It is suggested that infiltration of BUC is related with different expression of miRNAs, which may provide a novel platform for further study on function and action mechanism of miRNAs.

OBJECTIVETo compare the ability of osthole (OST) and genistein (GEN) in enhancing bone peak bone mass of rats to prevent osteoporosis.
METHODSThirty-six female one-month-old SD rats of (125 +/- 3) g body weight were randomly divided into three groups, 12 rats in each group, one group was orally administered osthole at 9 mg x kg(-1) d(-1), one group was given genistein at 10 mg x kg(-1) d(-1) and another was given equal quantity of distilled water as the control. The body weight was monitored weekly and the bone mineral density (BMD) of total body was measured every month. All rats were sacrificed after three months, the femoral bone mineral density, the serum levels of osteocalcin (OC) and anti-tartaric acid phosphatase 5b (TRACP 5b) were measured by Elisa. The bone microarchitectures were analyzed with micro-CT and the bone biomechanics properties were tested with universal material machine.
RESULTSNo significant differences were observed between O-treated or GEN group and the control for the food-intake and body weight during three months. However, the rats treated with OST had significant higher BMD for both total body and femur than the control and GEN group. The O-treated rats also had higher level of serum OC and lower level of TRACP 5b. Besides, they owned bigger bone volume/tissue volume, trabecular thickness, trabecular number but smaller trabecular spacing. In the three point bending tests of femurs, they were found to have larger maximum load, the young's modulus and structural model index (SMI).
CONCLUSIONOrally administered osthole could efficiently increase the peak bone mass of rats, which provide new ideas for preventing osteoporosis.
