1.Segmentation of 3D image of cerebral vessel
International Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2009;32(1):36-40
During surgery and radiation therapy, demands for higher quality of quantification and visualization of cerebral vessels need to be met.Hence, automatic (or semi-automatic) extractions of accurate cerebral vessel information seem particularly important. This paper reviews the cerebral vessel segmentation methods used in recent years, including statistics-based segmentation, deformable model,multi-scale method, prior knowledgebased method, and so on.The methods are divided into the following three categories:voxel intensity based approach, vascular tubular structure based approach, and prior knowledge-based approach.

Objective To investigate the expression and significance of Survivin and Fhit protein in colorectal benign and malignant disease. Methods Test the expression of Survivin and Fhit proteins in 20 cases normal colorectal mucosa,30 cases low grade colorectal intraepithelial lesion,30 cases high grade colorectal intraepithelial lesion and 68 cases colorectal adenocarcinoma by immunohistochemical staining S-P method. Results The unexpression of Survivin in normal colorectal mucosa, postive expression rates of Survivin in low grade colorectal intraepithelial lesion, high grade colorectal intraepithelial lision and colorectal adenocarcinoma were 43.3%,76.7% and 91.2%(P

Objective:To investigate the value of jugulo-omohyoid lymph nodes(JOHLN) for the prediction of lateral cervical lymph nodes metastasis behind internal jugular vein in patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma(PTC) and its clinical significance. Methods:The clinical data of 220 patients who underwent lateral neck dissection in our center were retrospectively analyzed, and the early warning effect and clinical significance of JOHLN on lymph node metastasis of the posterior internal jugular vein were analyzed. Results:In this study, the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy of JOHLN for predicting lymph node metastasis in the posterior group of internal jugular vein were 83.5%, 46.4%, 82.0%, 49.1%, and 74.1%, respectively. The accuracy rate for JOHLN prediction of upper tumor was 84.3%; In this study, side neck skip metastasis was found in 11 cases, all of which were JOHLN metastasis, upper tumors were found in 9 cases and 2 were located in the middle. Among the skip metastases, 6 cases had lymph node metastasis in the posterior group of internal jugular vein, and they were all upper tumors. Conclusions:JOHLN can effectively predict the risk of lateral neck metastasis. Especially for the upper PTC, preoperative evaluation of JOHLN can help decision-making of lateral neck lymph node dissection.

Objective This study aimed to investigate whether the copy numbers of the CCL3L1 (Chemokine C-C-Motif Ligand 3 Like Protein 1) gene were associated with susceptibility to ankylosing spondylitis (AS). Methods A total of 806 Chinese individuals including 405 AS patients and 401 healthy controls were enrolled. The CCL3L1 gene copy number was measured by a custom-by-design Multiplex AccuCopyTM Kit based on a multiplex fluorescence competitive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) principle, and 50 samples were randomly selected using the fluorescent quantitative PCR method to verify copy number. Main statistical method was t test, chi-square test and logistic regression model. Results There were no statistically significant differences between the case group and control group in age and gender ( t=1.77, P=0.076, χ2=1.14, P=0.289). The copy number of CCL3L1 gene ranged from 0 to 13 in both AS patients and the controls. After copy numbers were classified into 3 categories by 3, we did not find significant difference between the two groups ( χ2=0.591, P=0.669). And regression analyses also did not support the hypothesis that CCL3L1 gene copy number variation (CNV) could be an impact factor to the severity or function indexes of AS patients ( χ2=0.341, P=0.804 and χ2=0.472, P=0.774, respectively). Conclusion We suggest that the copy number of the CCL3L1 gene does not have a role in the susceptibility and the severity or function to AS.
