OBJECTIVETo investigate the histopathological changes in the liver and other organs after impact injury.
METHODSThe rabbits were impacted with a BIM-IV biological impacting machine at the xiphoid process. The severity of liver injury was graded and scored through gross anatomy. At the same time, the pathological changes in the liver, heart, and lung were observed by light and electron microscopes.
RESULTSLight microscopy showed that the pathological changes in the liver were: 1) loss of normal structure, hemorrhage and distortion of hepatic lobules; 2) cloudy swelling, degeneration, vacuolation and necrosis of liver cells; 3) infiltration of neutrophils. The lungs were injured and there were liver cell emboli in the small pulmonary arteries. Electron microscopy showed that the ultrastructure of the liver cells was severely damaged and the cells had significant features of necrosis.
CONCLUSIONSThe major pathomorphological changes in the liver after impact injury are hemorrhage and necrosis. They may be complicated by exfoliation of liver cells to hepatic sinusoids. These cells circulate with the blood to form emboli in the pulmonary blood vessels.

Objective:To evaluate the effect of eye-covering pretreatment on acute delirium in ophthalmology preschool-age children who underwent binocular and monocular surgery by general anesthesia. Methods:The 300 preschool-age children who underwent general anesthesia of elective ophthalmic surgery in the Second Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, from August 2019 to February 2021 were selected as the research object. They were divided into control group and blindfold group with 150 cases each by random number-table. Children in the control group received regular education on cartoon animation videos before surgery; children in the blindfold group received eye-covering pretreatment on the basis of cartoon animation videos(monocular surgery with monocular cover, binocular surgery with binocular cover). The Modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale (m-YPAS) , the Nursing Delirium Screening Scale(NU-DESC), the incidence rate of delirium and the score of postoperative nursing difficulty were compared between two groups. Results:The 271 cases were completed in this study, including 129 cases(monocular surgery 66 cases, binocular surgery 63 cases) in the blindfold group and 142 cases (monocular surgery 73 cases, binocular surgery 69 cases) in the control group. The preoperative m-YPAS score, the postoperative NU-DESC score, the incidence rate of acute delirium and postoperative nursing care difficulty score of monocular surgery in the blindfold group , monocular surgery was (40.28 ± 15.02) points, 1.00 (0.00, 2.00) points, 27.3%(18/66), 1.00 (1.00, 2.00) points, and binocular surgery was (41.69 ± 16.35) points, 1.00 (0.00, 2.00), 39.7%(25/63), 1.00(1.00, 2.00); in the control group, monocular surgery was (46.28 ± 15.76) points, 2.00 (1.00, 3.00) points, 67.1% (49/73), 2.00 (1.00, 3.00) points, and binocular surgery was (47.77 ± 14.82) points, 3.00 (2.00, 4.00) points, 82.6% (57/69) and 2.00 (1.50, 3.00) points respectively. The difference between the two groups was statistically significant ( t= -2.29, -2.24, Z values were -5.74 - -2.95, χ2= 32.94, 25.78, all P<0.05). The preoperative m-YPAS score, the postoperative NU-DESC score, the incidence rate of acute delirium and postoperative nursing care difficulty score of monocular surgery patients in the blindfold group had no significantly statistical difference with that of binocular surgery patient (all P>0.05) . Conclusions:Monocular/ binocular eye-covering pretreatment can effectively decrease the preoperative m-YPAS score, the postoperative NU-DESC score, incidence rate of acute delirium and the postoperative nursing care difficulty in preschool-age children who underwent general anesthesia both monocular or binocular surgery. There was no difference in the application effect of monocular or binocular surgery.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal disorders(WMSDs) among dentists and explore its influencing factors. METHODS: A total of 455 dentists from 9 medical organizations of Beijing and Fuzhou cities were selected as study subjects. The disease occurrence and mental workload were investigated using China Musculoskeletal Disorders Questionnaire and Subjective Workload Assessment Technique. The influencing factors of WMSDs were analyzed by multivariate logistic regression. RESULTS: The total prevalence of WMSDs was 58.9%(268/455) among dentists. The top three body parts of WMSDs were neck(41.5%), shoulder(33.6%) and lower back(28.1%). The median of mental workload score was 58. Multivariate logistic regression analysis results indicated that female dentists showed a higher risk than male dentists(P<0.01) after excluding the influence of confounding factors. The higher the length of service, the higher their risk for WMSDs(P<0.01). Dentists who hold their heads sideways for long time, bent frequently, and use vibrating tools had relatively high risks of developing WMSDs(P<0.01). Dentists who use armchairs had a relatively low risk of WMSDs(P<0.01). There was no correlation between the mental workload and the prevalence of WMSDs in dentists(P>0.05). CONCLUSION: The prevalence of WMSDs among dentists is high. Individual factors, awkward posture and using vibrating tools are risk factors of WMSDs among dentists.Armchair use can help reduce the risk of WMSDs.

ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of thyme herbal tea (BLX) on the proliferation of human coronavirus OC43 (HCoV-OC43) in vitro and in vivo. MethodThe chemical composition of BLX was analyzed by UPLC-MS. The cytotoxicity of BLX in HRT-18 cells and the effect of BLX treatment on the proliferation of HCoV-OC43 in cells were analyzed. Copies of viral gene were detected by real-time PCR. The effect of BLX treatment on the life cycle of HCoV-OC43 was detected by time-of-addition assay. The maximum tolerated dose of BLX and the influences of BLX on the body weight and survival time of suckling mice infected with HCoV-OC43 were determined. The expression of viral protein in the brain and lung tissue was analyzed by immunohistochemistry. ResultThere were 11 chemical components identified in BLX by UPLC-MS. BLX showed the 50% cytotoxic concentration (CC50) of (13 859.56±319) mg·L-1, the median inhibitory concentration (IC50) of (1 439.09±200) mg·L-1, and the selection index of 8.26-11.44 for HCoV-OC43 in HRT-18 cells. Compared with the cells infected with HCoV-OC43, BLX at the concentrations of 1 500, 1 000, 500 mg·L-1 inhibited the proliferation of this virus (P<0.05, P<0.01). BLX exhibited antiviral effect in the early stage of virus infection, and the inhibition role in the attachment stage was more significant than that in the entry stage (P<0.05). In the suckling mice infected with HCoV-OC43, BLX at 1200 and 600 mg·kg-1·d-1 alleviated the symptoms, prolonged the survival period, reduced the death rate, and down-regulated the mRNA level of nucleocapsid protein in the mice. Moreover, BLX at 1 200 mg·kg-1·d-1 down-regulated the expression of nucleocapsid protein in the brain (P<0.01) and the lung (P<0.01). ConclusionBLX contained multiple antiviral ingredients. It inhibited the proliferation of HCoV-OC43 both in vitro and in vivo by interference with viral attachment. This study provides theoretical reference for the treatment of acute respiratory tract infection with HCoV-OC43 and for further development and application of BLX.
