OBJECTIVETo analyze the motor performance status in students of Han nationality in fifteen provinces in china.
METHODSTotally, 161 804 students of Han nationality aged from 7 to 18 years old were involved in the Chinese Surveillance on Students' Physical Fitness and Health in 2004. Motor abilities were accessed with the aid of gripping power, 50 m dash, standing long jump, and 1-min sit-ups. Based on general statistical description, principal component analysis and linear regression, the development characters of students' motor performance were explored.
RESULTSThis research showed some characters similar to those of last ones: motor capability was improved in correlation with age; boys did better than girls, the difference between 18 year-old rural boys and rural girls was 15.3 kg, -2.0 s, 58.6 cm, 8.7/min; the urban students performed better than the rural ones, the difference between 15 year-old urban boys and rural boys was 0.9 kg, -0.2 s, 3.5 cm, 3.5/min. The first principal component might represent the 4 tests greatly. Regression analysis on principal component quantitatively interpreted the influence of factors such as age, sex and area.
CONCLUSIONSThe general principles of exercise quality development of students are still in work. Principal component analysis should be adequate and convenient in motor performance analysis.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of growth hormone (GH) on penile erection after reconstruction of cavernous nerves using sural nerve as an interposition nerve graft in rats.
METHODSTwenty-four male Sprague-Dawley rats (3-4 ms of age and 300-400 g in weight) were randomly divided into 2 groups: nerve graft group and GH group, each electrostimulated to determine the erectile potency 2 and 4 months after nerve graft (followed by hypodermic GH injection). The nNOS-positive nerve fibers in the corpora cavemosa were examined by streptavidin-peroxidase immunohistochemistry technique (SP method). Image analysis was used to calculate the area stained in pixel.
RESULTSElectrostimulation at 2 months produced 31.25% of erections in the GH group but none in the grafted rats. There was a significant difference in the erection rate produced by electrostimulation between the two groups at 2 months (P < 0.05). The pixel of the expression of nNOS-positive nerve fibers in the GH group (38971 +/- 7692) was also greater than that of the graft group (16538 +/- 3179, P < 0.05). At 4 months, 43.75% of the graft group and 75% of the GH group produced erections upon electrostimulation, with no significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). The pixels of the expression of nNOS-positive nerve fibers were 79276 +/- 12,021 and 91348 +/- 18965, respectively (P > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONGH can accelerate the regeneration of cavernous nerves after bilateral nerve grafting, and GH administration may present a new physiological approach to the treatment of erectile dysfunction after radical pelvic surgery.

AIM:To investigate the regulatory effects of microRNA (miR)-130a on the biological characteris-tics of rat basilar arterial smooth muscle cells (BASMCs) and its underlying mechanisms. METHODS:The expression of miR-130a in rat BASMCs was measured by real-time PCR. After knockdown of miR-130a with inhibitor in the BASMCs, the cell viability, cell cycle distribution and apoptosis were detected by CCK-8 assay and flow cytometry. The expression of cell cycle- and apoptosis-related molecules, such as cyclin D1, cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK2), p21, Bcl-2 and cleaved caspase-3/caspase-3 at protein levels was determined by Western blot. The growth arrest-specific homeobox protein ( Gax) expression at mRNA and protein levels was determined by real-time PCR and Western blot. RESULTS:Angioten-sionⅡ (AngⅡ) up-regulated the expression of miR-130a and down-regulated the expression of Gax (P<0. 05). Transfec-tion with miR-130a inhibitor partly reversed the increase in AngⅡ-induced cell viability and promoted the Gax expression. Furthermore, the early cell apoptotic rate was significantly increased after down-regulation of miR-130a (P<0.05), and the protein levels of cyclin D1, CDK2, Bcl-2 and p-Rb were significantly decreased, accompanied with the up-regulation of p21 and cleaved caspase-3 (P<0.05). CONCLUSION:Down-regulation of miR-130a restrains the viability and pro-motes the apoptosis of BASMCs by promoting Gax expression and regulating cell cycle- and apoptosis-related molecules, suggesting that miR-130a may be a potential therapeutic target of brain vascular remodeling during hypertension.
