To investigate the utility of optomap panoramic 200Tx in screening fundus disease among the patients after cataract surgery.
●METHODS: From November 18 th to December 31st , 2013 all 146 post- cataract surgery patients were recruited. All non - mydriatic fundus images were taken with the optomap panoramic 200Tx and were diagnosed by one masked retinal specialist. Non - mydriatic direct ophthalmoscope exam and mydriatic slit-lamp lens exam were also done by other two masked specialists. Comparisons of the three methods were made.
●RESULTS: Among 146 patients ( 161 eyes), 40 eyes (24. 8%) of retinal lesions was detected by non-mydriatic direct ophthalmoscope exam, 59 ( 36. 7%) by non -mydriatic optomap 200Tx exam, and 61 (37. 9%) by slit-lamp lens exam. Nine eyes ( 5. 6%) needed medical intervention immediately. Results of optomap 200Tx exams and slit - lamp lens exams were similar without statistically significant difference ( P > 0. 05), better than direct ophthalmoscope exam ( P < 0. 05) with statistically significant difference.
● CONCLUSlON: Opacification of the refractive medium makes thorough fundus examination impossible. So post-operative fundus examination is highly necessary and should be a routine. Optomap panoramic 200Tx, which shows no statistically difference from mydriatc slit- lamp lens exam, is a convenient and feasible method in discovering fundus pathological changes.

Objective To analyze the association of Crohn's disease(CD)with vitamin D receptor(VDR) gene polymorphisms. Methods After collecting 326 CD patients and 464 healthy controls, the four single nucleotide polymorphisms of VDR (FokI, BsmI, ApaI and TaqI) were examined by a SNaPshot technique. Results Compared with those in controls, the frequencies of mutant allele(A)and genotype(GA+AA)of BsmI were significantly decreased in CD patients(both P=0.001). The similar conclusions were also drawn for the mutant allele(C)and genotype(TC+CC)of TaqI(both P<0.05). In further stratified analysis, compared with those in controls, the mutant alleles and genotypes of BsmI and TaqI were significantly reduced in stenotic type CD patients (all P<0.0083). The analyses of linkage disequilibrium(LD)and haplotype showed that BsmI,ApaI and TaqI were in a strong LD,and the formed haplotype AAC was significantly lower in CD patients than that in controls (P <0.05). Conclusions VDR(BsmI and TaqI)polymorphisms are significantly related with the reduced susceptibility to CD,especially for patients with stenotic CD. Moreover, the haplotype AAC might engender a reduced risk of CD.

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of lipoxin A4 (LXA4)pretreatment on cognitive function of aged rats after global cerebral ischemia reperfusion, and to explore its possible mechanism.Thirty-six aged male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups (n=12 each):sham-operation group (S group),global cerebral ischemia reperfusion group (I/R group) and LXA4-pretreatment group (L group). The rat model of global cerebral ischemia reperfusion was established by occlusion of the bilateral common carotid artery with hypotension. The cognitive function of rats was determined by a step-down type passive avoidance test and Morris Water Maze test on the third day after reperfusion.Rats were sacrificed after Water Maze test and the pathological changes ofhippocampal CA1 region were observed and the related inflammatory mediators were determined. As compared with S group, the escape latency in I/R group was prolonged from the first day to the fifth day, while that in L group was prolonged from the first day to the third day.The retention time in I/R group and L group in the first quadrant was shortened. The reaction time, frequency of reaction mistake and frequency of escape mistake in I/R group increased, and the latent period shortened. The frequency of escape mistake in L group increased, and the damage in the hippocampal CA1 region of I/R group and L group was obvious. The levels of S-100β,TNF-α,IL-lβ,IL-10 and NF-κB in I/R group and L group increased. As compared with I/R group, the escape latency in L group was shortened from the first day to the fifth day,and the retention time in the first quadrant prolonged. The reaction time, frequency of reaction mistake and frequency of escape mistake in L group decreased, and the latent period prolonged. The damage in the hippocampal CA1 region of L group was alleviated as well. The levels of S-100β,TNF-α,IL-1β and NF-κB in L group decreased, and those of IL-10 increased. It can be concluded that LXA4 pretreatment can improve the cognitive function in aged rats after global cerebral ischemia reperfusion probably by inhibiting the inflammatory reaction.

OBJECTIVEA method for 3D-data acquisition of partially edentulous cast was introduced to lay the foundation for reconstructing 3D digital model of a partially edentulous cast and studying computer aided design (CAD) to a removable partial denture framework.
METHODSUsing projection system controlled by a computer, four frames of sinusoidal fringe pattern at pi/2 intervals were projected onto the surface of partially edentulous cast consecutively within 0.4 second. Deformed fringe patterns modulated by the surface height of the cast were recorded by a digital camera. The phase value with the height information was demodulated with phase-shifting method. The transition from the unwrapped phase to the height of the points on the cast was performed with triangulation method. The multiview 3D data was integrated automatically to obtain the complete 3D profile data and the 3D digital model of the partially edentulous cast was reconstructed.
RESULTSDense and complete points-cloud data was achieved without scanning blind zone basically. The anatomic structure of reconstructed 3D digital model was sharp and clear.
CONCLUSIONAs an alternative for acquiring 3D data of partially edentulous cast, this method presented here with high precision and high speed meets the need for the subsequent 3D design to removable partial denture framework.

Journal of Experimental Hematology 2012;20(2):443-447
The purpose of this study was to observe the ultrastructure of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUCMSC). hUCMSC from full-term newborn umbilical cord were isolated and cultured by collagenase digestion, and then subcultured, amplification, and cell morphology was observed by microscopy. The immunophenotype and trilineage differentiation potential of hUCMSCs at passage 3 were analyzed. Transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used to observe the ultrastructure of hUCMSC. The results indicated that appearance of hUCMSC was spindle-shaped and polygonal, and nuclei were observed. hUCMSC expressed immunophenotype CD44, CD73, CD105, did not express CD34, CD45, CD31 and human leukocyte antigen HLA-DR. hUCMSC were capable of adipogenic, osteogenic, and cartilage differentiation; the short and thick microvilli processes were seen at the surface of hUCMSC by scanning electron microscope. Two different cell morphologies of hUCMSC were seen under transmission electron microscope, the one was a quiescent period in which a large and round or oval nucleus only one nucleolus were seen, cytoplasmic organelles were less; the other was in a relatively active period in which one or two nuclei in the same one cell were observed, the organelles were rich, structure was clear, expansion of the mitochondria was visible. It is concluded that the cells successfully isolated and cultured from umbilical cord, which possess biological characteristics of MSC and display two different states of ultrastructure.
