1.Establishment of network laboratory for blood cell analysis and its quality assurance

Objective To establish a network laboratory for blood cell analysis and better calibrate haematology analyzers in local lab.Methods According to GB/T 15481《General requirements for the competence testing and calibration laboratories》(idt ISO/IEC 17025),we established a network laboratory providing traceability for blood cell analysis.Complete blood count was traced to Calibration Laboratory in NCCL;The secondary standard haematology analyzer with the same model and calibrator with same lot number were used for verification for a long period.Fresh blood from healthy people was used to calibrate haematology analyzers.Results Gradually we have improved our laboratory quality management system, precision as well as accuracy,which was satisfactory.The unified blood sample was adopted to calibrate different equipments in our hospital and showed consistence when compared with calibration analyzer.The correlation coefficient of all tests is more than 0.99.The relative deviation of WBC,RBC,HCT,HGB and PLT are within?7%,?3.5%,?4%,?3% and?15%,respectively.Conclusions Secondary standard systems provides good comparable results with calibration laboratory.Its tracing mode and quality control scheme could ensure the traceability and accuracy of completed blood count.Furthermore,using elective fresh blood from healthy people,the comparable results from different analyzers were achievable.
2.Navigation template for sacral fracture fixation using three-dimensional reconstruction and reverse engineering technique

Objective To provide a new method for sacral fracture fixation by means of 3D recon-struction and reverse engineering technique. Methods Pelvis images of 3D CT scan were obtained from patients with sacral fracture. The digital data were transferred into a computer workstation. 3D models of pelvis were reconstructed using Amira 3.1 software and saved in STL format. The 3D fracture models were imported into Imageware 10.0 software. Different situations of reduction (total reduction, half reduction and no-reduction) were simulated using Imageware 10.0 software. The extract locations and the best directions of inserting iliosacral lag screws were defined using Reverse Engineering according to the 3 situations to before navigation templates were designed according to the posterior anatomic features of the ilium and the insertion channels. Exact navi-gational templates were manufactured by rapid prototyping. Drill guides were sterilized and used intraoperatively to assist surgical navigation and placement of iliosacral lag screws. Results Accurate screw placement was confirmed with postoperative X-ray and CT scanning. The navigation templates were found to be helpful and highly accurate. Conclusion The navigation template may be a useful method for mini-invasive fixation of sacroiliac joint fracture.
3.Diagnoses and plastic reconstruction of congenital nasal ethmoidal sinus malformation with false triple nostrils appearance.

OBJECTIVETo study the pathogenesis, the diagnostic criterion and the surgical methods of congenital nasal ethmoidal sinus malformation with false triple nostrils appearance.
METHODSFrom Feb 1993 to Mar 2006, a total of 13 cases of rare congenital nasal deformity had been investigated in pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, differential diagnosis and the methods of operation. The concept of congenital nasal sinus was presented. In this series, one-stage rehabilitation was achieved by using compositive operation techniques, including excision of the sinus, reconstruction of the hatch of ethmoidal sinus, transplantation of the dorsal nasal musculoaponeurotic flap as well as the nasolabial fold flap and the reconstruction of the cartilage-muscle ring in the wing of the nose.
RESULTSThe symptom disappeared in all of the 13 cases with no morbidity. The symmetrical double sides were observed and the nasal figure was satisfied.
CONCLUSIONSBy using such compositive operation techniques, including excision of the sinus, reconstruction of the hatch of ethmoidal sinus in middle nasolabial, transplantation of the dorsal nasal musculoaponeurotic flap as well as the nasolabial fold flap and the reconstruction of the cartilage-muscle ring in the wing of the nose, one-stage rehabilitation could be reached. It was an ideal, safe and reliable method to cure this kind of rare congenital nasal deformity.

4.Effects of Lipoxin A4 Pretreatment on Cognitive Function of Aged Rats after Global Cerebral Ischemia Reperfusion

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of lipoxin A4 (LXA4)pretreatment on cognitive function of aged rats after global cerebral ischemia reperfusion,and to explore its possible mechanism.Thirty-six aged male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into three groups (n=12 each):sham-operation group (S group),global cerebral ischemia reperfusion group (I/R group) and LXA4-pretreatment group (L group).The rat model of global cerebral ischemia reperfusion was established by occlusion of the bilateral common carotid artery with hypotension.The cognitive function of rats was determined by a step-down type passive avoidance test and Morris Water Maze test on the third day after reperfusion.Rats were sacrificed after Water Maze test and the pathological changes ofhippocampal CA1 region were observed and the related inflammatory mediators were determined.As compared with S group,the escape latency in I/R group was prolonged from the first day to the fifth day,while that in L group was prolonged from the first day to the third day.The retention time in I/R group and L group in the first quadrant was shortened.The reaction time,frequency of reaction mistake and frequency of escape mistake in I/R group increased,and the latent period shortened.The frequency of escape mistake in L group increased,and the damage in the hippocampal CA1 region of I/R group and L group was obvious.The levels of S-100β,TNF-α,IL-lβ,IL-10 and NF-κB in I/R group and L group increased.As compared with I/R group,the escape latency in L group was shortened from the first day to the fifth day,and the retention time in the first quadrant prolonged.The reaction time,frequency of reaction mistake and frequency of escape mistake in L group decreased,and the latent period prolonged.The damage in the hippocampal CA1 region of L group was alleviated as well.The levels of S-100β,TNF-α,IL-1β and NF-κB in L group decreased,and those of IL-10 increased.It can be concluded that LXA4 pretreatment can improve the cognitive function in aged rats after global cerebral ischemia reperfusion probably by inhibiting the inflammatory reaction.

Objective To explore the association of chemokines and their receptors with immunologi- cal abnormality in newly diagnosed systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) patients.Methods The serum con- centration of MIP-1?,MIP-1?,RANTES,IFN-?IL-4 were measured by enzyme-linked immunoabsorbent assay (ELISA) in 37 newly diagnosed.SLE patients and 20 normal controls.The expression rate of CCR1, CCR3,CCR5 on CD4~+T cells were detected by flow cytometry in 18 SLE patients and 10 normal controls.Re- suits Serum MIP-1?,MIP-1?concentrations were significantly higher in SLE patients than in normal control group (P<0.01),the concentration of MIP-1?positively correlated with MIP-1?(r=0.609,P<0.01);the per- centage of CD4~+CCR1~+ and CD4~+CCR5~+ cell were significantly lower in newly diagnosed SLE patients than in normal control group (both P<0.01),the percentage of CD4~+CCRI~+ cells correlated negatively with the level of serum MIP-1?and IFN-?r=-0.525,P=-0.017;r=-0.442,P=0.045);the percentage of CD4~+CCR5~+ cell corre- lated negatively with the level of serum IFN-?(r=-0.645,P=0.001);the ratios of CD4~+CCR3~+/CD4~+CCR5~+ was significantly higher in newly diagnosed SLE patients than in the normal control group (P<0.01).Conclusion Abnormal change and interaction of chemokines and their receptors with cytokines lead to immunologic dys- function and may participate in the initiation of SLE.

ghest. Conclusion In general, both the prevalence rates of overweight and obesity in Chinese minority students were comparatively low. However, in some minority groups the prevalence had already become higher, which demands early prevention.

myopia rates in 2005 were 29.5%, 39.1%, 10.1%, 42.6%, 41.1%, for boys and 45.4%, 50.0%, 15.4%, 49.7%, 46.7% for girls. Conclusion In order to improve the health of students in minority regions, we need to promote health education at schools.
9.Changes of physical functions among Chinese minority students from 1985 to 2005

Objective To study the changes of physical functions among minority students in China from 1985 to 2005, to provide evidence for health promotion to the minority students in the country. Methods Using data from the Chinese national survey on students physical fitness and health from 1985 to 2005, we analyzed the physical functions of 15 minority groups from primary and secondary schools, including Mongolian, Hui, Uygur, Zhuang, Korean, Tibetan, Yao, Li, Qiang, Buyi, Dong, Miao, Tu, Salar, Kirgiz, aged 7-18 years old. Results Some of the minority students had the higher levels of physiological functions and athletic ability, but some indicators decreased significantly. In terms of items related to 'speed' , most of the minority boys and girls improved, but items related to 'endurance' or 'vital capacity', were significantly declining. Part of the minority students bad better 'endurance' than students of Hart ethnicity in the cities. All the indicators of athletic ability declined in schoolboys and schoolgirls of Korean ethnicity. Kirgiz students were outstanding in vital capacity and speed quality while Uighur students had better physical development and vital capacity, but were poorer in running and jumping, reflecting the weakness of explosive power of lower limbs. On the contrary, Li and Zhuang students had shown a very good quality in running, jumping, male shoulder muscular strength and endurance items, etc. Conclusion The physical functions and the athletic ability of the minority students in China had the advantages and characteristics, which might be related to their living environment and habits.
