Objective To analyze the clinical characteristics,treatment and prognosis of primary lymphoma of bone (PLB).Methods Retrospective analysis of 9 cases with newly diagnosed PLB was performed.The primary lesion was located in bone and no evidence of lesion was found in other tissues.All the lesions were confirmed by histological examination and immunohistochemical staining.The clinical manifestation and radiological appearance of all cases were non-specific.Results 9 patients were enrolled in the current study including 6 males and 3 females with average age of 34 years old (15-71 years old).All cases had suffered local pain or edema as initial symptom.Single bone infiltration was detected in 7 patients,while multiple bones infiltration was noticed in 2 patients.The lesion distribution was as follows:4 lesions were situated in pelvis (3 in ilium and 1 in sacral),1 in femur,1 in humerus,1 in scapula,and 2 in spine.2 cases were treated with radiotherapy and chemotherapy,3 cases were treated with chemotherapy and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation,1 case was treated with chemotherapy and surgery,and 3 cases received chemotherapy alone.With in a median follow-up of 8 months,6 patients showed overall response (including 5 cases of complete response and 1 case of partial response).Conclusions PLB is a rare condition,and the diagnostic criteria and treatment are still not well defined.Early diagnosis and prompt treatment usually achieves satisfactory prognosis.The possibility of PLB must be concerned for patients with bone pain,soft tissue swelling or unexplained fractures,and pathological examination should be carried on as soon as possible.

Objective To study the clinical characters,the mode of inheritance of osteogenesis Imperfecta in a Chinese Family and effect of bisphosphonate on Osteogenesis Imperfecta.Methods Clinical data of proband and their family members were collected.The family patterns were mapped.clinical features were summarized and analyzed.Results(1)Clinical features:There are sixty members of four generations in the family.20 cases including proband's mother and cousin were diagnosed as having OI type Ⅰ based on clinical manifestations.15 cases of blue sclera,16 cases of dentinogenesis imperfecta,5 cases of hearing loss and 3 cases of fracture.Thyroid cancer and Turner's syndrome was found in Proband's mother and cousin respectively.(2)The genetic map showed that the disease was autosomal dominant inheritance.(3)Treatment:The proband,her mother and her cousin were treated with alendronate for two years.Bone pain relieved and bone mineral density increased significantly,and no fracture occurred so far.Conclusion(1)This OI family was diagnosed as having OI type Ⅰ.The mode of inheritance is autosomal dominant inheritance.(2)Bisphosphonates may be an effective drug for treatment of OI.

AIMTo study the synthesis and anti alpha-adrenoceptor activity of 1,2-dihydro-quinoline-2-one compounds.

METHODSAcylation, bromination and cyclization, and substitute reactions were used in the synthesis of the title compounds IV. A proposed mechanism was showed to explain the unusual compounds 5 and 6 in the route C. The inhibition activity of the six target compounds were tested.

RESULTSTwelve new compounds were synthesized (II1-6 and IV1-6). Among them, six new compounds (IV1-6) are the title compounds. Structure of the title compounds were determined by IR, 1HNMR, MS and HRMS.

CONCLUSIONCompounds IV3, IV4 and IV6 showed inhibitiion activity, and were worth further studying.

BACKGROUNDThe auditory brainstem implants (ABIs) have been used to treat deafness for patients with neurofibromatosis Type 2 and nontumor patients. The lack of an appropriate animal model has limited the study of improving hearing rehabilitation by the device. This study aimed to establish an animal model of ABI in adult rhesus macaque monkey (Macaca mulatta).

METHODSSix adult rhesus macaque monkeys (M. mulatta) were included. Under general anesthesia, a multichannel ABI was implanted into the lateral recess of the fourth ventricle through the modified suboccipital-retrosigmoid (RS) approach. The electrical auditory brainstem response (EABR) waves were tested to ensure the optimal implant site. After the operation, the EABR and computed tomography (CT) were used to test and verify the effectiveness via electrophysiology and anatomy, respectively. The subjects underwent behavioral observation for 6 months, and the postoperative EABR was tested every two weeks from the 1 st month after implant surgery.

RESULTThe implant surgery lasted an average of 5.2 h, and no monkey died or sacrificed. The averaged latencies of peaks I, II and IV were 1.27, 2.34 and 3.98 ms, respectively in the ABR. One-peak EABR wave was elicited in the operation, and one- or two-peak waves were elicited during the postoperative period. The EABR wave latencies appeared to be constant under different stimulus intensities; however, the amplitudes increased as the stimulus increased within a certain scope.

CONCLUSIONSIt is feasible and safe to implant ABIs in rhesus macaque monkeys (M. mulatta) through a modified suboccipital RS approach, and EABR and CT are valid tools for animal model establishment. In addition, this model should be an appropriate animal model for the electrophysiological and behavioral study of rhesus macaque monkey with ABI.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of rabbit saphenous and sciatic nerve homogenates on the proliferation and calcification of rabbit osteoblasts in vitro.

METHODThe saphenous nerves (sensory nerves) and the muscular branches of the sciatic nerve (motor nerve) were collected from 48 New Zealand white rabbits to prepare the nerve tissue homogenates. Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) were isolated from the rabbits and cultured in vitro, and after 14 days of routine osteogenic induction, the resultant osteoblasts were identified by immunohistochemistry, alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and Alizarin red S staining. The osteoblasts were then incubated in the induction medium containing the saphenous (sensory nerve group) or sciatic homogenates (motor nerve group), with the cells in the dexamethasone-containing, dexamethasone-free osteogenic induction medium and control medium as the control. The proliferation, total protein and ALP activity of the osteoblasts were measured every other day until the 8th day, and Alizarin red S staining was used for quantitative analysis of calcification of the cells after two weeks.

RESULTSThe application of the saphenous nerve homogenates significantly promoted cell proliferation, total protein and ALP activity (P<0.01, P<0.05 and P<0.05), while exposure of the osteoblasts to dexamethasone inhibited the cell proliferation (P<0.001). Compared to dexamethasone-free group, the saphenous homogenates enhanced the mineralization of the osteoblasts (P<0.001).

CONCLUSIONSaphenous nerve homogenates significantly promotes the proliferation, differentiation, ALP activity and mineralization of rabbit osteoblasts, but sciatic nerve homogenates do not show osteogenic effects on the cells.

BACKGROUNDNeural tube defects are the most common human birth defects. The causes are multifactorial with complex genetic and environmental factors, although the exact genetic causes are unknown. This research was conducted to study the frequency of Msx2 gene polymorphisms in 59 women with a history of pregnancy with a neural tube defect and in 73 healthy controls. We aimed to determine the effect of this genetic polymorphism on the incidence of neural tube defects in the Han Chinese population.

METHODSWe studied 59 mothers with at least one previous child with a neural tube defect (the case group) and 73 case-control subjects during the same period, from Shanxi Province, China. We analyzed the genotypic distributions and allele frequencies of Msx2 C386T polymorphisms in DNA samples from the case and control groups. A three-dimensional protein model was predicted using Swiss-Pdb Viewer software version 4.0. Disease association was analyzed using chi-square tests.

RESULTSSignificant differences were observed in the genotypes and allele frequencies of the Msx2 C386T allele between the case and control groups (CT: 32% vs. 15%, P = 0.0073 and TT 15% vs. 4%, P = 0.013, respectively). Logistic regression analysis showed that the C386T mutation is a potential risk factor for neural tube defects (P < 0.05; OR: 3.466; 95%CI: 1.831 - 6.560). Three-dimensional structure prediction revealed that the Msx2 C386T mutation results in a threonine substitution for methionine at position 129 of exon 2, which might lead to structural mutations or dysfunctions in the protein encoded by Msx2.

CONCLUSIONMaternal Msx2 C386T gene polymorphisms were associated with fetal neural tube defects in Han Chinese women in Shanxi Province.

AIMTo promote the provision of reproductive health services to young people by exploring the attitudes and perceptions of university students in Shanghai, China, toward reproductive health.

METHODSFrom July 2004 to May 2006, 5 243 students from 14 universities in Shanghai took part in our survey. Topics covered the demands of reproductive health-care services, attitudes towards and experience with sex, exposure to pornographic material, and knowledge on sexual health and sexually transmitted infections (STIs)/AIDS.

RESULTSOf the 5 067 students who provided valid answer sheets, 50.05% were female and 49.95% were male, 14.86% were medical students, and 85.14% had non-medical backgrounds. A total of 38.4% of respondents had received reproductive health education previously. The majority of students supported school-based reproductive health education, and also acquired information about sex predominantly from books, schoolmates, and the Internet. Premarital sexual behavior was opposed by 17.7% of survey participants, and 37.5% could identify all the three types of STIs listed in the questionnaire. Although 83.7% knew how HIV is transmitted, only 55.7% knew when to use a condom and 57.8% knew that the use of condoms could reduce the risk of HIV infection.

CONCLUSIONThe reproductive health service is lagging behind current attitudes and demands of university students. Although students' attitudes towards sexual matters are liberal, their knowledge about reproductive health and STIs/AIDS is still limited. It is therefore necessary to provide effective and confidential reproductive health services to young people.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease （COPD） is a common and frequently-occurring disease of the respiratory system， characterized by persistent respiratory symptoms and airflow restriction， which is prone to attack repeatedly and affect patients' quality of life seriously. At present， the combination of bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids is commonly used in clinic. Although these drugs can alleviate the symptoms of COPD patients， there are certain limitations of the difficulty in controlling the course of the disease effectively and reversing the decline of patients' lung function. Therefore， searching for safer and more effective therapeutic drugs has become a hot research topic nowadays. Traditional Chinese medicine （TCM） has remarkable curative effects and advantages in the prevention and therapy of COPD recently. Based on the increasing research and application of the active components of TCM in the therapy of COPD， studies on their pharmacodynamic mechanism are also more in depth. More and more studies have found that the active components of TCM can treat COPD patients effectively， and the mechanism involved mainly includes the anti-inflammatory， the antioxidant， and the inhibition of apoptosis. By searching and screening the domestic and foreign literatures on the treatment of COPD with the active components of TCM in recent years， the active components of TCM including flavonoids， terpenoids， phenols and saponins have been studied as the research objects， and their effects in improving the pulmonary function and oxidative stress， relieving inflammation and inhibiting apoptosis are expounded. Besides， the mechanism of action， signaling pathways and index molecules have been emphatically summarized， in order to provide the ideas for the clinical therapy and the basic research of COPD.

ObjectiveTo investigate the social support status and influencing factors of schizophrenics in remission in Northeast Sichuan， and to provide ideas for improving their social support. MethodsFrom May to September 2020， a total of 533 patients who met the diagnosis criteria of the International Classification of Diseases， tenth edition （ICD-10） for schizophrenics in remission at the mental health institutions in Guangyuan， Bazhong and Dazhou cities were selected for the survey， and patients were assessed by self-made demographic and clinical data inventory and Social Support Rating Scale （SSRS）. Then the social support status of schizophrenic in remission and influencing factors were analyzed， meantime， the impact of the second round reimbursement policy of medical insurance benefits on their social support was addressed particularly. Results①The SSRS total score， objective support， subjective support， and utilization of support scores of schizophrenics in remission were lower than those of the national norm （t=5.065~30.382， P<0.01）. ②Univariate analysis showed that SSRS score was relatively high among patients with female gender （t=-3.632）， retired status （F=5.951）， married status （F=5.951）， spouse as primary caregiver （F=23.841）， annual household income >5 000 yuan （F=15.892）， patient's economic income （t=4.083）， and outpatient or online follow-up （F=3.954）， with statistically significant differences （P<0.05 or 0.01）. ③The total and dimensional scores of SSRS in patients with access to the second round medical insurance reimbursement were significantly higher than those without （t=10.195~25.103， P<0.01）. ④Multiple linear regression analysis denoted that gender， work status， marital status， primary caregivers， annual family income， economic income， follow-up visits and the second round medical insurance reimbursement were the factors influencing social support status of schizophrenics in remission （β=0.201~2.115， P<0.05 or 0.01）. ConclusionThe social support of schizophrenics in remission in Northeast Sichuan is below the national average， furthermore， their social support levels are affected by the gender， work status， marital status， primary caregivers， annual family income， economic income， follow-up visits and the second round medical insurance reimbursement， and the second round medical insurance reimbursement may ameliorate the social support status of patients.
