Objective We discussed the influence of diary therapy for out-of-hospital rehabilitation of schizophrenia patients with first hospitalization. Methods Ninety schizophrenia patients with first hospitaliza-tion and who were during rehabilitation period were randomized into the intervention group and the control group with 45 cases in each group. The two groups both received systemic antipsychotics medication. The control group adopted general health education while the intervention group got diary therapy based upon general health education. The treatment effect was evaluated by medical and nursing staff with abundant experience using the self-medication compliance questionnaire, the brief psychiatric rating scale(BPRS)and social disability screening schedule(SDSS)at the first day,6th month and first year after intervention. Results The total score of BPRS,SDSS,medication compliance and relapse rate in the intervention group was statistically better than those of the control group. Conclusions Diary therapy could facilitate the recovery of racial function, improve the medica-tion compliance, reduce the relapse rate and increase life quality for schizophrenia patients.

BACKGROUND:Some studies have showed that the accuracy and surgery outcome of the percutaneous pedicle screw implantation was superior to open surgery, but the relationship between the angle of pedicle screws and screw stability is stil unclear in previous studies. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of different angles of implanted screws on the stability of pedicle screw. METHODS:A total of 30 vertebral specimens of adult pigs were selected and screws were implanted respectively according to different coronal and sagittal angles. The maximum pul-out strength of screws from each specimen was tested by machine. Load-displacement curves were drew and statistical y analyzed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The maximum pul-out strength and maximum energy of screw with 10° and 15° coronal and sagittal angles implantation were significantly better than those of 0° angle group (P<0.05). When the stress exceeded the maximum pul-out strength, the pul-out strength of screw decreased gradual y. The curves in coronal and sagittal 10° and 15° angle groups was similar, and the slope was better than 0° angle group (P<0.05). These results confirm that the angle of the implanted screw provides effective assistance to the stability of percutaneous pedicle screw. After the looseness of the screws, the pul out strength shows a steady downward trend.

Objective To explore ear reconstruction using autologous rib cartilage ear framework by multi-layer spliced sculpture in microtia patients. Methods From Feb 2010 to May 2011,29 microtia patients were subjected to ear reconstruction using autologous rib cartilage ear framwork by four-layer spliced sculpture. Results In one operation 29 patients achieved 2 cm transverse height of reconstructed ears which were basically coincidence with the normal side.Patents and their families were all satisfied with the results.Follow-up of 3-12 months showed that only 1 case reconstructed-ear height was significantly lower transverse process.Owing to sleeping position, the patient did not protect the reconstructed ear, leading to frequent reconstructed-ear pressure. Conclusions The method of multi-layer spliced sculpture autologous rib cartilage ear reconstruction has good clinical effect. It can make reconstructed ear reach nomal transverse height and avoid the third rib cartilage transplant operation to continue increasing the transvers height.

BACKGROUND: Expectant treatment for intertrochanteric fractures in elderly patients with osteoporosis and other chronic diseases can easily lead to complications of lying in bed.OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the results of percutaneous compression plating system (PCCP) for intertrochanteric fractures in elderly patients. METHODS: Thirty-two cases of elderly intertrochanteric fractures treated with PCCP admitted from June 2007 to June 2009 and 40 cases of elderly intertrochanteric fractures treated with dynamic hip screw system (DHS) were reviewed. The operative bleeding, operative time and curative effect were compared.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The operative bleeding and operative time in the patients receiving PCCP were significantly lower than those in the patients receiving DHS. There was not statistical significance between the curative effects about the two methods. PCCP applied in elderly patients with intertrochanteric fracture can get satisfactory effects, and the system is operated simply with minimally invasive surgery, which is beneficial to reduce surgical complications.
