Objective To establish a new automatic lung segmentation method in order to deal with the omission of pleural nodules and pulmonary vessels. Methods Lung parenchyma were extracted from chest CT images with the inversed operation of 2D region growing and connected area classification, then the contours and locating the contour points were traced with scan line searching. Finally, the parameters of lung contour points were analyzed to locate the contours distorted by nodules, and curve spline was used to correct distorted contours. Results The experimental results of many sets of CT images verified that the technique proposed was effective. The comparison with other contour correction algorithm verified that line searching contour correction was superior. Conclusion The proposed algorithm includes tumors in the segment results, and confirms the integrality, veracity, real-time quality of this auto-segmentation method.

Journal of Chinese Physician 2009;11(9):1180-1182
Objective To explore the role of TGF-βand TGIF in the pathogenesis of endometriosis. Methods The expression of TGF-β and TGIF was detected by immunohistochemistry method in the ectopic and eutopic endometrium of 30 cases with endometriosis (ec-topic endometrium group and eutopic endometrium group) and in the normal endometrium of 40 cases without endometriosis (control group). Result The expression of TGF -β in ectopic endometrium group was significantly higher than that in eutopic endometrium group and control group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the expression of TGF- βbetween eutopic endometrium group and control group(P > 0.05). The expression of TGIF in ectopic endometrium group was significantly lower than that in eutopic endometrium group and control group( P <0.05). There was no significant difference in the expression of TGIF between eutopic endometrium group and control group(P > 0.05). There were negative correlation between the expressions of TGF - β and TGIF in ectopic endometrium group and eutopic endome-trium group(rs= - 0.769, - 0.549, P < 0.05). Conclusion The abnormal expression of TGF-β and TGIF in ectopic endometrium of pa-tients with endometriosis may be associated with the genesis and progression of endometriosis.

High fat feed was provided by Experimental Animal Center in Hebei Province, and the fractional mass of each component was mentioned as following: basic 0.9, cholesterol 0.015, lard 0.08, and hyocholic salt 0.003.③ Lipid kit was provided by Baoding Changcheng Clinical Reagent Company, and kits of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT),glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were provided by Nanjing Jiancheng Bioengineering Institute.METHODS: The experiment was completed at the Laboratory of Pharmacology and Toxicology for New Drug in Hebei Province from June to December 2004. ① All 24 rats were randomly divided into 3 groups:normal control group, model group and plantain seed group with 8 in each group. Rats in the normal control group were fed with basic feed. Rats in plantain seed group were fed with high fat feed + 15 g/kg plantain seed and drank routinely. Experimental rats were fed in cages, respectively. Each one was fed with 25 g/d food and drunk freely. The experimental cycle was 12 weeks. ② At the end of experiment, rats were anesthetized to assayed levels of serum triacylglycerol (TG), total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), serum SOD and MDA, activities of CAT and SOD in myocardial tissue, content of MDA, and activities of CAT and GSH-Px in hepatic tissue with related kits. ③ Measurement data were compared between each two group with t test.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Comparison of serum lipid level and anti-oxidation among groups at 12 weeks after modeling.RESULTS: All 24 rats were involved in the final analysis. ① At 12 weeks after modeling, activities of SOD in serum and myocardial tissue were lower in model group than those in normal control group and plantain seed group (P < 0.05), but levels of MDA in serum and myocardial tissue were higher in model group than those in normal control group and plantain seed group (P < 0.05). ② At 12weeks after modeling, activities of CAT and GSH-Px in serum and myocardial tissue were lower in model group than those in normal control group and plantain seed group (P < 0.05). ③ At 12 weeks after modeling, levels of TC and TG in serum were higher in model group than those in normal control group and plantain seed group (P < 0.05), but level of HDL-C and ratio between HDL-C and TC in serum were lower in model group than those in normal control group and plantain seed group (P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: Plantain seed at dosage of 15 g/kg can decrease content of lipid and strengthen anti-oxidation of economy in rats with hyperlipidemia.

Objective To investigate the expression of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and its role in incisional pain in the rat model. Methods Incisional pain rat model was established by a longitudinal incision in right plantar hind paw of isoflurane-anesthetized rats.Spinal cords were removed at various postoperative times (1,6,24,72 h).The gene expression of IL-6 in the spinal cord was determined by a Real-time PCR.Immunohistochemistry and double-labeling immunofluorescence were performed to determine the expression of IL-6 after incision.Intrathecal injection of IL-6 antibodies was performed to modulate the spinal IL-6 after surgical incision, and the mechanical hypersensitivity was assessed by paw withdrawal thresholds from mechanical stimuli of von Frey filaments. Results After hind-paw incision, the IL-6 mRNA level was upregulated in the ipsilatcral lumbar spinal cord. The immunoreactivity of IL-6 in spinal cord was increased after hind-paw incision at 6 hours after incision. The upregulated spinal IL-6 was mainly localized in the neurons and endothelial cells.Intrathecal injection of IL-6 antibodies dramatically inhibited the surgical incision that evoked pain hypersensitivity. Conclusions The present study showed that the upregulated IL-6 in the spinal cord contributed to the pain hypersensitivity after surgical incision, inhibiting the upregulated IL-6 in the spinal cord may be a possible new therapeutic target for the treatment of postoperative pain.
