The article introduces a new method for three-dimensional reproduction of edentulous dental casts, and wax occlusion rims with jaw relation by using a commercial high-speed line laser scanner and reverse engineering software and evaluates the method's accuracy in vitro. The method comprises three main steps: (i) acquisition of the three-dimensional stereolithography data of maxillary and mandibular edentulous dental casts and wax occlusion rims; (ii) acquisition of the three-dimensional stereolithography data of jaw relations; and (iii) registration of these data with the reverse engineering software and completing reconstruction. To evaluate the accuracy of this method, dental casts and wax occlusion rims of 10 edentulous patients were used. The lengths of eight lines between common anatomic landmarks were measured directly on the casts and occlusion rims by using a vernier caliper and on the three-dimensional computerized images by using the software measurement tool. The direct data were considered as the true values. The paired-samples t-test was used for statistical analysis. The mean differences between the direct and the computerized measurements were mostly less than 0.04 mm and were not significant (P>0.05). Statistical significance among 10 patients was assessed using one-way analysis of variance (P<0.05). The result showed that the 10 patients were considered statistically no significant. Therefore, accurate three-dimensional reproduction of the edentulous dental casts, wax occlusion rims, and jaw relations was achieved. The proposed method enables the visualization of occlusion from different views and would help to meet the demand for the computer-aided design of removable complete dentures.

To investigate the relationship between HLA-DQB1* alleles and major beta-thalassemia, the HLA-DQB1* loci typing was performed with polymerase chain reaction-sequence specific primer (PCR-SSP) in 42 unrelated (unconsanguineous) patients with major beta-thalassemia and 45 normal control individuals in Guangdong Province. Results showed that the frequency of HLA-DQB1*06 allele in patient group (19.0%) was higher than that in the control group (4.4%) kappa(2) = 8.961, p < 0.01). Our data suggests that HLA-DQB1*06 allele is associated with pathogenesis of the major beta-thalassemia in Guangdong area.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of transurethral resection of ejaculatory ducts (TURED) for azoospermia with ejaculatory duct obstruction (EDO).
METHODSFrom June 2003 to December 2004, 20 azoospermia with EDO were diagnosed, diagnostic criteria included a history, physical examination, semen analyses, semen fructose measurement, endocrine assessment, testicular biopsy and transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS); All 20 cases were treated by TURED. Fifteen of them were followed up more than 3 months after the treatment. The semen samples of them were analysed at 3-month intervals in post-therapy.
RESULTSSemen analyses in all 20 cases showed the typical characteristics of EDO, low semen volume (0.4-1.6 ml), azoospermia, low pH, absent or low semen fructose. TRUS showed the main etiology factor of EDO was a midline cyst in 11, lateral cystic lesions in 2, the remaining 7 cases had dilated ejaculatory duct with or without dilated seminal vesicles. Among 15 cases followed up more than 3 months after TURED, 10/15 (67%) had an improvement in semen parameters and 3/15 (20%) had pregnancies. Semen analyses had not been done in anther 5 cases.
CONCLUSIONTransurethral resection of ejaculatory ducts may be a safe and effective method for the treatment of azoospermia with EDO.

OBJECTIVEThis study aims to survey respiratory infectious disease related health literacy (RIDHL) and health behavior (RIDHB) among residents in Fengtai district, Beijing, analyze impact factors of RIDHL , explore the association between RIDHL and RIDHB.
METHODSMultistage sampling was employed and 1100 respondents were surveyed by self-designed questionnaires, which including social-demographic characteristics and evaluation of RIDHL and RIDHB. The survey results were described, the impact factors of RIDHL and the association between RIDHL and RIDHB were analyzed by analysis of variance or covariance.
RESULTSA total of 998 qualified questionnaires were recollected with the effective rate of 90.7%. The respondents aged from 15 to 65, scored (71.3 +/- 19.0) points in RIDHL test. Of those respondents, 25.7% (256/998), 43.2% (432/998) and 31.1% (310/998) were evaluated as low( <60 points), medium (60 - 85 points), and high level ( > 85 points) of RIDHL, respectively. There were significant difference in RIDHL scores between registered and non-registered residents, who scored (74.1 +/- 18.9) and (68.4 +/- 18.8) points, respectively (P < 0.01). RIDHL sections were ranked as audiovisual (77.6%, 4647/5988), internet using (75.2%, 2251/2994), reading (74.6%, 3724/4990), map using (68.3%, 4090/5988) and quantitative (65.5%, 5230/7984) according to the accurate rates from high to low. Analysis of variance or covariance showed that RIDHL scores were significantly different among respondents with different ages, nationalities, educational levels, occupations, and incomes (P < 0.01), yet no significant differences among those with different genders and marital status (P > 0.05). Respondents scored (69.7 +/- 15.5) points in RIDHB test. The RIDHB scores ((64.5 +/- 15.0), (70.4 +/- 15.6), (72.5 +/- 14.9) points, respectively) increased among residents with low, medium and high level of RIDHL (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONResidents in Fengtai district, Beijing possessed medium level of RIDHL. The non-registered residents showed lower RIDHL than registered residents. Ages, nationalities, educational levels, occupations, and incomes were impact factors of RIDHL. People with higher level of RIDHL also showed a higher level of RIDHB.

This study was purposed to analyze the characteristics of morphology, immunology, cytogenetic and molecular biology of leukemia cells in 12 AML patients with Ph(+) and their correlation with survival of patients. 12 patients with Ph(+) AML were diagnosed according to diagnostic criteria of WHO and existence of t(9;22) (q34;q11) or t(9;22) abnormality, meanwhile no evidence of CML chronic phase was observed. The results showed that 8 out of 12 cases were confirmedly diagnosed to be AML by morphologic and immunophenotypic examination, 4 cases were diagnosed as myeloid and B lymphocytic mixed acute leukemia. The Ph chromosome was detected in 10 cases by chromosome analysis at the first time of diagnosis, and some of the cases had coexistence of complex chromosome and/or normal karyotype. BCR-ABL transcript was detected in all 12 cases, including 7 cases with b3a2, 1 case with b2a2, 1 case with b2a2 variants, 2 cases with e1a2 and 1 case with e18a2. The 12 cases all got complete remission after chemotherapy and/or gleevec treatment, out of them 3 cases received chemotherapy and gleevec treatment, but 2 cases died; 9 cases received allogeneic hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), 1 case died from relapse, among them 1 case died from transplant complications. The median survival was 24 (8 - 80) months, the overall survival of 3 years was (51.4 ± 17.7)%. It is concluded that the Ph(+) AML is a acute myelogenous leukemia with poor prognosis, but long-term survival may be achieved with HSCT as quick as after complete remission from gleevec and chemotherapy treatment. Meanwhile, the detection of BCR-ABL gene and it variants may be give more opportunity for diagnose and treatment, which can be used as routine screening for newly diagnosed leukemia.

Chinese journal of integrative medicine 2013;19(11):836-843
OBJECTIVETo observe the effect of Safflor Yellow (SY) Injection on acute lung injury (ALI) induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) in mice.
METHODSSeventy-two mice were divided into six groups: control (saline + saline); LPS (LPS + saline); SY Injection [LPS + SY (10, 20 or 40 mg/kg, intravenously)] and anisodamine (AD) (LPS + AD). Thirty minutes after SY or AD administration, 15 mg/kg LPS was given intraperitoneally. All animals were sacrificed 4 h after LPS injection. Arterial blood gas and lung water content index (LWCI) were measured. Lung tissue myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity was assayed. mRNA expression of inflammatory cytokines was assayed by reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction. Lung morphological and nuclear factor (NF)-κB p65-positive cell changes were observed by HE and immunohistochemical staining. p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) phosphorylation was observed by Western blotting.
RESULTSAfter LPS administration, all animals displayed increased arterial carbon dioxide partial pressure (PaCO2) and decreased arterial oxygen partial pressure (PaO2), arterial oxygen saturation (SO2), HCO3 (-) concentration and pH, and increased LWCI, MPO activity, interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α mRNA expression, NF-κB p65-positive staining and p38 MAPK activation compared with normal controls (all P<0.01). SY Injection significantly mitigated the LPS-induced increase in arterial PaCO and the decreases in arterial PaO2, SO2 and pH, and attenuated increases in LWCI and lung tissue MPO activity (all P<0.01). Moreover, SY Injection inhibited the increases in NF-κB p65 staining and in TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 mRNA expression (all P<0.01), and promoted the expression of the antiinflammatory cytokine IL-10 (P<0.05) following LPS injection. LPS-induced pulmonary p38 MAPK phosphorylation was suppressed by pretreatment with SY Injection (P<0.01).
CONCLUSIONSY Injection ameliorates inflammatory ALI induced by LPS in mice.

Chinese Journal of Stomatology 2006;41(3):175-177
OBJECTIVETo explore a computer aided design (CAD) route for the framework of domestic fixed partial denture (FPD) and confirm the suitable method of 3-D CAD.
METHODSThe working area of a dentition model was scanned with a 3-D mechanical scanner. Using the reverse engineering (RE) software, margin and border curves were extracted and several reference curves were created to ensure the dimension and location of pontic framework that was taken from the standard database. The shoulder parts of the retainers were created after axial surfaces constructed. The connecting areas, axial line and curving surface of the framework connector were finally created.
RESULTSThe framework of a three-unit FPD was designed with RE technology, which showed smooth surfaces and continuous contours.
CONCLUSIONSThe design route is practical. The result of this study is significant in theory and practice, which will provide a reference for establishing the computer aided design/computer aided manufacture (CAD/CAM) system of domestic FPD.
