There are four main aspects of the ISI journal selection process. These involve examination of basic journal publishing standards, editorial content, international diversity, and citation analysis. It is impossible to say which element in the evaluation process is the most important and which is the least important. Since each journal evaluation has its own character, factors tend to have different weight in different context. This paper will examine the key points of the journal selection process employed by ISI.

At times lumbar disc herniations present a quandary to the spine surgeon in regards to the most appropriate intervention and a need to optimize medical and surgical therapies. We discuss a case of ours and our experience in treating this common spinal pathology, along with a commentary on the article published by Kim et al. entitled 'Spontaneous regression of extruded lumbar disc herniation: three cases report in Korean J Spine. 2013 Jun;10(2):78-81.'

Intravenous thrombolysis is an effective treatment for acute ischaemic stroke. However, vascular recanalization rates remain poor especially in the setting of large artery occlusion. On the other hand, endovascular intra-arterial therapy addresses this issue with superior recanalization rates compared with intravenous thrombolysis. Although previous randomized controlled studies of intra-arterial therapy failed to demonstrate superiority, the failings may be attributed to a combination of inferior intra-arterial devices and suboptimal selection criteria. The recent results of several randomized controlled trials have demonstrated significantly improved outcomes, underpinning the advantage of newer intra-arterial devices and superior recanalization rates, leading to renewed interest in establishing intra-arterial therapy as the gold standard for acute ischaemic stroke. The aim of this review is to outline the history and development of different intra-arterial devices and future directions in research.

A customized vestibular rehabilitation (VRT) is an important treatment modality in patients with vestibular dysfunction with gaze instability, motion-provoked vertigo, disequilibrium and gait disturbance. We discuss in this paper the patient selection criteria for VRT, rehabilitation strategies for vestibular deficits, and the factors that affect the outcome.

Robotic thyroidectomy has been a good option in the treatment of benign and early stage differentiated thyroid cancers, with several functional benefits. In the last few years, many surgeons have established their own robotic thyroidectomy techniques, and published many reports on the feasibility, safety and benefits of their robotic procedures. Although there are many different surgical techniques, robotic thyroidectomy can be classified according to the different means of remote access to the thyroid gland. Each method has advantages and disadvantages, and surgeons have modified each procedure in an effort to eliminate its shortcomings. With the remarkable innovation of robotic instruments and patient selection based on the appropriate indications, robotic thyroidectomy may usher a paradigm shift for thyroid surgery in the near future.

Cervical spine surgery performed for the correct indications yields good results. However, surgeons need to be mindful of the many possible pitfalls. Complications may occur starting from the anaesthestic procedure and patient positioning to dura exposure and instrumentation. This review examines specific complications related to anterior and posterior cervical spine surgery, discusses their causes and considers methods to prevent or treat them. In general, avoiding complications is best achieved with meticulous preoperative analysis of the pathology, good patient selection for a specific procedure and careful execution of the surgery. Cervical spine surgery is usually effective in treating most pathologies and only a reasonable complication rate exists.

Vascular surgeons encounter a myriad of complications during the management of patients. The complications that occur associated with vascular surgery are often life threatening. Vascular surgeons have played a pioneering role in the development and introduction of new vascular and endovascular techniques, and some of the techniques changed the therapeutic options available for patients with vascular disease. Especially, with the development of endovascular surgery, there has been substantial change in the management of most vascular diseases and their complications. The best way to manage complications is to prevent them from occurring by careful planning, appropriate patient selection, extensive operator experience, and the correct use of appropriate devices. Successful operation outcomes depend on avoiding complications, as well as recognizing and promptly managing complications when they occur. This article reviews various local complications and their management in the field of vascular and endovascular surgery.

The purposes of this study were to find factor which influence on the selection criteria of food supplier. Questionnaire were distributed to 52 general hospitals with more than 400 beds located in Seoul and Kyongin province, and responded questionnaires were collected from 44 dietetic departments (84.6%) and 18 purchasing departments (34.6%). The main results of this study can be summarized as follows: (1) supplier selection criteria include quality, service, cost and supplier competency. (2) With having been met with tight competition and market opening, hospitals plan a strategy to improve quality, service and they tend to have more interest in various supplier selection criteria. (3) Purchasing departments estimate more highly the rate of reflection in considering supplier selection criteria than the rate of importance about cost criteria, which reveals that purchasing departments sensitively respond to cost cutdown. (4) When selecting suppliers, a significant(p<.01) influence of stability of supplier industry environment on the selecting criteria such as the importances of quality, service, and supplier quality are recognized only after recognizing the stability of food delivery industry. Food supplier industry secures stability more quickly through major companies' participation in food distribution industry and this will reveal the importance of supplier selection criteria. (5) Suppliers which are selected by the quality criteria, service criteria, supplier quality criteria make efforts to communicate with foodservice departments, to give more proper information about substitute food, new product, and to make commitments, while suppliers which are decided by cost criteria do not establish supportive relationships with foodservice departments.
