1.Comparison of patient satisfaction with digital and conventional impression for prosthodontic treatment.

PURPOSE: The present study aims at researching the subjective satisfaction of patients who have experienced both conventional impression taking and digital impression taking to measure the possibility of wide clinical application of digital impression. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study surveyed 170 adult patients over the age of 20, between October 2015 and April 2016, who voluntarily consented to participation and who experienced both conventional impression and digital impression at five dental hospitals that use intraoral digital impression. A total of 128 surveys were used for data analysis, involving frequency analysis, multiple response frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, and contingency table analysis, with the significance level set at 0.05. RESULTS: Responses on the reason for taking impressions using the digital method appeared in the order of 'for implant treatment' (43.8%), 'for crown treatment' (30.5%), and 'for inlay treatment' (15.6%). Patients satisfaction was higher for digital impression taking than conventional impression taking (P<.05). As the preferred choice of impression, digital impression (60.2%) was higher than conventional impression (11.7%). Responses on the reason for choosing digital impression taking appeared in the order of 'no vomiting reflex' (35.1%), 'reliability of 3D digital scanning' (33.8%), and 'short time' (33.8%). CONCLUSION: The patients preferred digital impression taking to conventional impression taking in terms of satisfaction.

2.A Comparison of Patient Satisfaction with Care Received and Nurse Satisfaction with Care Given.

PURPOSE: The main purpose of this study was to compare the level of satisfaction of patients with nursing care received, and of nurses with nursing care provided to their patients. Another purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between job satisfaction by the nurses and satisfaction with nursing care they provide. METHOD: A self-report questionnaire developed by Yoo & Hong (1999) was used to measure patient and nurse satisfaction. The participants were 147 patients and 133 nurses and data were collected from October 23 to October 30, 2002. Data analysis was done using SPSS WIN 11.0. RESULT: The average score for patient satisfaction was 2.47 (maximum score 5.0) and for nurses, 2.20. This difference was statistically significant. The patients gave high scores on care related personal hygiene, but they gave low scores for critical nursing areas such as following appropriate procedure for administering medications. No significant relationship was found between satisfaction with their nursing care by the nurses and satisfaction with the job. CONCLUSION: Even though the patient scores were significantly higher than nurses', the overall average score was very low and critical nursing actions received the lowest scores. It is necessary to identify areas in need of improvement and develop continuing education programs for nurses.

3.Hypoesthesia after Open Reduction and Plate Fixation of Clavicular Midshaft Fractures: Correlation with Plate Location and Clinical Features of Hypoesthesia.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to evaluate the correlation between the location of the plate and the incidence of clavicular hypoesthesia and the clinical features of patients with clavicular hypoesthesia after open reduction and internal fixation of clavicular midshaft fractures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventy-eight patients who underwent open reduction and plate fixation for clavicle midshaft fractures between March 2013 and October 2014 were assessed for eligibility. The total clavicular length (A), the distance to the medial end of the plate from the sternoclavicular joint (B), and the distance to the lateral end of the plate from the sternoclavicular joint (C) were measured. Correlation between the location of the clavicular plate and the incidence of clavicular hypoesthesia was evaluated. In addition, the severity, and recovery of hypoesthesia were evaluated. Patient satisfaction, pain visual analogue scale were evaluated regarding hypoesthesia. RESULTS: The incidence of hypoesthesia was 32.1% (25/78 patients). No correlation was observed with respect to the location of the clavicular plate and the incidence of clavicular hypoesthesia (p=0.666 at the medial end, p=0.369 at the lateral end). Recovery from hypoesthesia was observed in 23 out of 25 patients (p=0.008). Patient satisfaction and pain showed negative correlation with the incidence of hypoesthesia (p=0.002 and p=0.022). CONCLUSION: There was no correlation between clavicular hypoesthesia and the plate location. Although most cases of hypoesthesia were recovered, we should try to avoid hypoesthesia due to the negative 'correlation' with patient satisfaction and pain.

4.Treatment of adult-acquired buried penis with suprapubic liposuction combined with modified Devine operation.

OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the safety and efficacy of suprapubic liposuction combined with modified Devine surgery in adult patients with concealed penis caused by obesity.
METHODS:
The clinical data of 26 adult patients with buried penis admitted to the Department of Urology of Peking University People' s Hospital and the Department of Surgery of Beijing Eden Hospital from September 2017 to June 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. The average age of the patients was (33.0 ± 5.7) years, the average body mass index (BMI) was (29.0±5.4) kg/m2, and the penis length in the supine position was (2.9±1.3) cm. All the patients were treated with suprapubic liposuction combined with modified Devine operation. The improvement of penis length and complications were statistically analyzed after operation, and the satisfaction of the patients was followed up, 1 = dissatisfied; 2 = basically satisfied; 3 = satisfied; 4 = very satisfied. The measurement data were expressed in (mean±SD), nonparametric Friedman tests and multiplex analysis methods were used for data comparison.
RESULTS:
The average liposuction volume of the 26 patients was (450.0±90.2) mL. Immediately after operation: the penis length was (7.4±2.1) cm, increased by (4.5±1.6) cm compared with that before operation; three months after operation: the penis length was (5.3±1.8) cm, increased by (2.4±0.7) cm compared with that before operation. There was significant difference in penis length before operation, immediately after operation and three months after operation (P < 0.01). All the patients had no sexual intercourse disorder or dysuria. Postoperative edema occurred in 11 cases (42.3%), ecchymosis in 7 cases (26.9%), poor healing of prepuce wound in 2 cases (7.8%), hematoma in 1 case (3.8%), 5 cases (19.2%) without postoperative complications, and no patient had wound infection. Seventeen patients (65.4%) were very satisfied with the appearance and function of the penis, 6 patients (23.1%) were satisfied, 3 patients (11.5%) were basically satisfied, and no patients were dissatisfied. The average score of all the patients' satisfaction with postoperative penis appearance and function was (3.5±0.7).
CONCLUSION
Suprapubic liposuction combined with modified Devine operation is safe and effective in the treatment of adult-acquired buried penis.

5.Patient satisfaction with rheumatology practitioner clinics: can we achieve concordance by meeting patients' information needs and encouraging participatory decision making?

INTRODUCTIONThe objective of this study was to determine if patient information needs are being met and the level of patient satisfaction with rheumatology practitioners in participatory decision-making and thereby indirectly explore whether concordance was achieved.
MATERIALS AND METHODSThe design was a cross-sectional postal questionnaire survey of 420 patients attending outpatient clinics at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital who were taking disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) or a biological treatment. The population served is ethnically homogeneous and predominantly Caucasian.
RESULTSThe response rate was 76%. Most respondents (79%) had inflammatory arthritis while 66% had rheumatoid arthritis. Seventy-seven per cent of patients reported that the rationale behind commencing treatment was explained and that they were given ample opportunities to ask questions. Eighty-two per cent said they were given an appropriate amount of information. Sixty-four per cent of patients were satisfied with their level of participation in the decision-making process, although a substantial number (25%) said that information from different sources was conflicting. There was no correlation between concern about side effects and patients' perceptions of the effectiveness of medication. Females were more concerned than males about possible side effects; P =0.009, using the Mann-Whitney U test. One third of the patients altered their medication in response to whether their arthritis felt better or worse.
CONCLUSIONThe majority of patients were satisfied that their information needs were met and with the care provided in the practitioner clinic. Participatory decision-making was sub-optimal despite patient satisfaction with the amount of time allocated to meeting their information needs. We found that patients exercise autonomy in managing their arthritis by regulating their medications through an active decision-making process, which is informed by their previous experience of medication, and how well controlled they felt their arthritis was. Research into this decision-making process may hold the key to achieving concordance.

6.Characterization of patients and its relationship with medical complaints.

BACKGROUNDPatient characteristics may be an internal factor influencing patient complaints, but in China patient characterization is restricted to patient satisfaction surveys, and few studies have considered the relationship between patient characteristics and patient complaints. The aim of this research was to determine the reasons for complaints.
METHODSIn this study, we analyzed the characteristics of hospitalized patients and explored their relationship with medical complaints.
RESULTSThe significant factors were age (P = 0.045), hospital cost (P = 0.003), household nature (P < 0.001), and education (P < 0.001). The complaint rate decreased when the patients' age increased (regression coefficient, -0.606; OR, 0.545, and 95%CI, 0.301 - 0.987). The complaint rate increased with an increase in hospital cost (regression coefficient, 0.818; OR, 2.266; and 95%CI, 1.320 - 3.889). Patients from non-agricultural households had a higher complaint rate (regression coefficient, 1.051; OR, 2.861; and 95%CI, 1.611 - 5.082). Patients with higher education levels had lower complaint rates (regression coefficient, -0.944; OR, 0.389; and 95%CI, 0.234 - 0.647).
CONCLUSIONThe survey confirms that older patients and patients with higher education levels had lower complaint rates, while non-agricultural population and patients with higher hospital expenses had higher complaint rates.

7.Using satisfaction questionnaire status version (DTSQs) to study on the reliability, construct validity and responsiveness of diabetes treatment among Chinese diabetic outpatients.

OBJECTIVEUsing 'diabetes treatment satisfaction questionnaire status version (DTSQs)' to evaluate the reliability, validity and responsiveness, among Chinese type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) outpatients.
METHODSA cross-sectional study was carried out in 749 T2DM outpatients from seven hospitals in Guangzhou and Shanghai, China. The DTSQs was self-administered by patients, under the help from interviewers for those having difficulties in reading. Split-half reliability correlation coefficient, Cronbach alpha and Spearman' were used to test the reliability. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were employed separately to examine the construct validity of the scale. The responsiveness of the scale was appraised by the multiple analysis of covariance (MANCOVA).
RESULTSThe split-half correlation coefficient was 0.807 and the Cronbach alpha was 0.717 of the six items on satisfaction of treatment. The three factors extracted by EFA explained 67.656% of the overall variance. The relative chi2 was 4.95 and DK was 0.18 in the goodness of test by CFA. The vector of treatment satisfaction, perceived hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia were different in males versus females and in poor versus good blood glucose controlled groups. The DTSQs showed good reliability and validity among T2DM outpatients.
CONCLUSIONDTSQs was applicable to Chinese T2DM patients.

8.Factors Affecting Patient Satisfaction with Community Health Service under the Gatekeeper System: A Cross-sectional Study in Nanjing, China.

The gatekeeper policy has been implemented for approximately ten years on a pilot population in China. It is necessary to assess the satisfaction of patients utilizing community health service (CHS) under the gatekeeper system. Our study showed that the cognition of gatekeeper policy was associated with four dimensions including doctor-patient relationships, information and support, organization of care, and accessibility (P < 0.001). One or more factors such as gender and self-perceived health scores also affected their satisfaction. General practitioners must be prepared to focus on these aspects of information and support, organization of care, and accessibility as indicators of potential opportunities for improvement. Additionally, policymakers can improve patients' satisfaction with CHS by strengthening their awareness of the gatekeeper policy.

9.Patients' quality of life after laparoscopic or open cholecystectomy.

OBJECTIVEThis study was aimed at evaluating and comparing the quality of life in patients who underwent laparoscopic and open cholecystectomy for chronic cholecystolithiasis.
METHODSThe study included 25 patients with laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC group) and 26 with open cholecystectomy (OC group). The quality of life was measured with the Gastrointestinal Quality of Life Index (GLQI) preoperatively, thereafter regularly at 2, 5, 10 and 16 weeks after the operation.
RESULTSThe mean preoperative overall GLQI scores were 112.5 and 110.3 in LC and OC group respectively (P>0.05). In the LC group, the mean overall GLQI score reduced slightly to 110.0 two weeks after the operation (P>0.05). The LC group showed significant improvement in overall score and in the aspects of symptomatology, emotional and physiological status from 5 to 16 weeks postoperatively. In the OC group, the GLQI score reduced to 102.0 two weeks after surgery (P<0.05). Significant reductions were shown in the aspects of symptomatology, physiological and social status. The GLQI scores returned to the preoperative level of 115.6 ten weeks after the operation (P>0.05). The patients experienced significant improvements of GLQI sixteen weeks after OC operation (P<0.01~0.05). Within the 10 postoperative weeks, the LC group had significantly higher GLQI scores than the OC group (P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONSLC can improve the quality of life postoperatively better and more rapidly than OC. The assessment of quality of life assessment is a valid method for measuring the effects of surgical treatment.

10.Relationship between clinical assessment and patient satisfaction in anterior esthetic restorations.

OBJECTIVETo analysis the relationship between esthetic characters and satisfaction degree of patients.
METHODSNinety patients requiring single anterior tooth restoration were treated in clinic with all-ceramic crowns. A visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to assess the satisfaction degree of patients after treatment. Clinical assessments were made by a prosthodontist in characters of feature, surface texture, hue, color distribution, incisal transparency, and individual characterization of all-ceramic crowns. Color-difference between the crowns and corresponding natural teeth was tested by Vita Easyshade electrical colorimetric instrument. The relationship between the last two items and patients' satisfaction degree was analyzed.
RESULTSThere were significance differences in the different degree among all the six esthetic characters (P < 0.05), except good and moderate degrees in the character of hue (P = 0.553). And color distribution, individual characterization, and surface texture of the crowns showed high correlations with the satisfaction degree of patients (r = 0.485, 0.472, 0.467). Total color-differences, absolute value of hue-differences, and Deltaa between restorations and corresponding natural teeth were related to the satisfaction degree of patients, and Spearman correlation coefficient was -0.434, -0.371, and -0.406 (P < 0.05), respectively.
CONCLUSIONSAll the esthetic characters assessed in clinic were related to the satisfaction degrees of patients, especially color distribution, individual characterization and surface texture. Total color-differences and hue-differences were correlated with the satisfaction degrees of patients as well.
