1.Utilization and Application of Modified Action Camera in Otorhinolaryngoloic Surgery.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: In recent years, surgical imaging has become important for legal and educational purposes. Significant improvements can be made from the surgeon's point of view in recording surgical procedures, particularly with respect to the action camera with high-definition video recordings. For otolaryngologic surgery, the surgical view is narrow, and there is a limit to proper imaging using the existing lens of the action camera. Therefore, we aimed to find out if we could obtain surgical images through simple modification of action camera. MATERIALS AND METHOD: The action camera was modified to match the surgical field. We selected a suitable lens for otolaryngology surgery using a calculation formula. The action camera was simply modified according to the design. The modified action camera can be mounted on the surgeon's head or the surgical light. We compared the images taken with the modified action camera and the images taken with the existing camcorder. The modified action camera was able to capture a narrow surgical field for otolaryngologic surgery. RESULTS: Unlike the existing method, we were able to obtain high-quality images using a modified action camera at the first person's viewpoint without auxiliary manpower. The action camera was considerably cost effective compared to other methods of recording surgery. CONCLUSION: The modified action camera allows for high-definition, cost-effective, and firstperson viewpoint for otolaryngologic surgery. The modified action camera allows for detailed videography that can enhance surgical teaching, presentation and patient education materials.

2.Development and Effects of Health Education Program using Flipped Learning for Allergic Rhinitis Patients

PURPOSE: This study was conducted to develop and test effects of flipped learning on a health education program for allergic rhinitis patients. METHODS: The study was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design, with 38 participants (experimental group: 19, control group: 19). The education program for allergic rhinitis patients with flipped learning developed for this study was conducted in pre-class, in-class, and post-class stages for a total of 12 weeks. For the in-class stage, a TREAT model suitable for patient education program was developed. Data were analyzed with an independent t-test and repeated measures ANOVA. RESULTS: The experimental group showed significant improvement in knowledge (F=15.029, p<.001), self-efficacy (F=6.814, p<.001) and self-care behavior (F=41.761, p<.001). In addition, subjective symptoms (F=61.453, p<.001) and quality of life (F=52.413, p<.001) improved. CONCLUSION: The results of this study show that flipped learning in an education program is an effective method for those in their twenties persistent moderate-severe allergic rhinitis. Therefore, the education program for allergic rhinitis developed by this study is actively recommended for nurses or health managers at universities to educate subjects in their twenties with allergic rhinitis.

3.The Development of Multidisciplinary Cancer Patient Education·Counseling Questionnaire and Satisfaction Survey.

BACKGROUND: Presently, a multidisciplinary team of doctors, pharmacists, nurses, and dietitians provides patient education to impart information on chemotherapy. However, studies on multidisciplinary education satisfaction are inadequate. In this study, we aimed to contribute to the improvement of quality of multidisciplinary education counseling for patients with cancer by developing a satisfaction questionnaire and analyzing the satisfaction survey. METHODS: A questionnaire was developed by an expert group, and the responses were recorded using the 5-point Likert scale. After conducting a pre-test, factor analysis was performed to evaluate validity. The reliability of the questionnaire was measured by Cronbach's alpha coefficient. A satisfaction survey was conducted by self-administration method. RESULTS: Based on the results of factor analysis, factors can be divided into two parts: “overall education” and “each team member's education” (total 14 questions). The construct validity and reliability of the questionnaire are sufficiently high. Fifty-one patients took the survey between January 2, 2018 and January 20, 2018. Twenty-six (51%) patients responded that they were “very satisfied” and 22 (43.1%) patients responded that they were “satisfied”. CONCLUSION: By developing a questionnaire on multidisciplinary education counseling for patients with cancer, it is possible to perform evaluation and research of cancer patient education. This study will contribute to the management and improvement of quality of multidisciplinary education.

4.The Effect of Recorded Video Monitoring on Students' Self Reflection of Patient–Physician Interaction

The aim of this study is to examine the effect of recorded video monitoring on students' self-reflection after completing their clinical performance examination. Taking into account the particular cases involved in the examination, the present study utilized history-taking, physical examination, and patient education as bases for evaluating information-establishment ability, and asking, listening, understanding, explaining, and connectedness as the bases for evaluating patient-physician interaction ability. Student self-monitoring through recorded video feedback was carried out three days after completion of their clinical performance examination. Students self-evaluated their performance with a 10-point scale before and after self-monitoring. The results of this study show that students have a general tendency to lower their own self-evaluation scores after self-monitoring. Although there was not a statistically significant change of interrelationship in the information-establishment ability evaluation, there was a meaningful change of interrelationship in the patient-physician interaction ability evaluation after self-monitoring; specifically, in the case of acute lower abdominal pain, a high correlation was found (r=0.31, p=0.02) between the evaluation scores of standardized patients and students related to patient-physician interaction ability. This implies that self-monitoring enables the students to acquire a reflective viewpoint from which to evaluate their own performance. Therefore, it can be said that self-monitoring through recorded video feedback is a valuable method for students to use in reviewing their performance in patient-physician interactions.

5.What Are Patients with Thyroid Cancer Surgery Concerned about?.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: To prevent getting wrong information and improve high quality of life, it is necessary to provide accurate information and patient education. This study aimed to collect basic data and develop educational program for thyroid cancer patient by understanding their educational needs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between April 16 and June 15, 2012, 159 patients who underwent thyroid cancer surgery were enrolled. This survey consisted of 5 areas including management of the symptom and the complication after surgery, postoperative wound and dietary management, treatment plan after discharge, medication management, and daily life. RESULTS: The most common way for the patients to acquire information about the disease was Internet and the patients who used INTERNET as their information source were 54.7%. Doctors (76.1%) and nurses (21.4%) were the preferred educators for the patients, and small group education was the preferred education method. Specifically the need for "management of the symptom and the complication after surgery" was the highest (3.33), followed by "treatment plan after discharge" (3.31), "medication management" (3.19), "postoperative wound and dietary management" (3.17). CONCLUSION: Medical team including doctors and nurses should be the center to activate small group education for patients. Professional and individualized education program should be developed to give the proper education to patients and their family.

6.Suitability and Readability Assessment of Printed Educational Materials on Hypertension.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to assess the suitability and readability of printed educational materials for patients with hypertension in Korea. METHODS: A total of 33 written educational materials related to hypertension were collected from public health centers, hospitals, and internet web site. Among them, we analyzed 19 materials which fit the inclusion criteria: leaflets (n=9), booklets (n=3), and guide book (n=7). Two trained nurses evaluate the materials using suitability assessment tool (SAM; Doak, Doak, & Root, 1996a) and graded lexical items for teaching Korean (Kim, 2003). RESULTS: Overall, 14 (73.7%) of 19 materials scored adequate, and 5 (26.3%) scored inadequate. On the average, the education materials contained 36.1% to 50.5% of 1st grade reading level words and 12.9% to 21.6% of 4th grade level and over. CONCLUSION: The reading level of the materials was higher than a 6th grade reading level. It is proposed that the written educational materials should be developed by health professionals according to suitability and quality by taking the target group's literacy capacity into consideration.

OBJECTIVETo observe results of medicine-separated moxibustion combined with healthy guidance for improving human sub-healthy state and to probe the mechanism.
METHODSFifty-two sub-healthy persons from community were selected with health valuation method of traditional Chinese medicine and were treated with healthy guidance and medicine-separated moxibustion at selected points according to causes of disease, syndrome, clinical manifestations. At the same time, changes of clinical physical and chemical indexes and clinical symptoms before and after treatment were monitored.
RESULTSAfter treatment, clinical symptoms and natural killer cells (NK) activity significantly increased (P<0.05); complement C3 and C4 levels significantly decreased and IgG level significantly increased (both P<0.05).
CONCLUSIONMedicine-separated moxibustion combined with healthy guidance direction can regulate functions of zang- and fu-organs and elevate immunity in the people of sub-healthy state, so as to improve sub-healthy state and increase quality of life.

8.Interprofessional Education Programs for Nursing Students: A Systematic Review.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate how interprofessional education has been designed, implemented, and evaluated in undergraduate programs in nursing through a systematic review. METHODS: The literature was searched using the PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE, and Cochrane central databases to identify interventional studies including teaching-learning activities among nursing students and other disciplines in English between January 2000 and May 2017. Thirty studies were selected for the analysis. RESULTS: Twenty-four studies out of 30 were designed as a pre-post, no control group, quasi-experimental study design. Interprofessional education learners were primarily engaged in medicine, physical therapy, dentistry, occupational therapy, pharmacy, and respiratory therapy. Patient care related activity was the most frequently selected topic and simulation was the most common teaching-learning method. Evaluation of learning outcomes was mainly based on the aspects of teams and collaboration, professional identity, roles and responsibilities, patient care, and communication skills. Nursing students in 26 out of the 30 reviewed studies were found to benefit from interprofessional education, with outcome effects primarily related to changes in learning outcomes. CONCLUSION: The development and integration of interprofessional education with collaborative practices may offer opportunities in nursing education for training professional nurses of the future.

9.Evaluation of peer support education mode for type 2 diabetes control in rural residents.

Objective: To evaluate the intervention effects of peer support education mode for type 2 diabetes control in rural residents. Methods: A random cluster sampling method has been used, including 300 rural residents aged above 18 years old from three villages (184 in control group, 116 in intervention group), in order to proceed the physical check-up and health education programs. Unchanged rate, transfer rate of patients, rate of impaired glucose tolerance, turn normal rate and other biochemical indicators of patients and people with impaired glucose tolerance from control group and intervention group were analyzed, to evaluate the intervention effects of peer support education mode. Results: The glycemic control rate of intervention group for patients and people with impaired glucose tolerance (72.2% and 71.4%) were higher than control group (43.6% and 26.7%), but the unchanged rate of intervention group (13.9% and 0.0%) were lower than control group (42.3% and 73.3%). Patients with diabetes or glucose intolerance in the education group improved significantly in waist-to-hip ratio, uric acid, total cholesterol and HDL-C. Glycemic hemoglobin level also improved significantly in diabetes patients of the education group. Conclusion: Peer support for education intervention seemed beneficial for diabetic control. The combination of education and effect evaluation was important in the evaluation of diabetes prevention and control. Peer support education also benefited the blood glucose control in general population.

10.Effects of group psychoeducation (GPE) on compliance with scheduled clinic appointments in a neuro-psychiatric hospital in southwest Nigeria: a randomised control trial (RCT).

INTRODUCTIONThe aim of this study was to find out the effects of group psychoeducation (GPE) on the scheduled clinic appointments of patients admitted for psychosis and depression after discharge from hospital.
MATERIALS AND METHODSA randomised controlled trial (RCT) of 4 sessions of GPE delivered while the patients were admitted was conducted and compared to no session of GPE with the usual care. This RCT was conducted in a 60-bed state reference neuropsychiatric hospital in Southwest of Nigeria. The study population consisted of 48 admitted patients for psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia and depression. Twenty-five patients admitted were randomly selected to undergo 4 sessions of GPE before discharge from hospital, and 23 patients were randomly selected to receive regular medication and care without undergoing GPE. Both groups were then followed for 9 months on clinic days to measure compliance with scheduled appointments. Main outcome was measured by the number of clinic appointments kept within the period of study after discharge from hospital.
RESULTSPatients in the treatment group were consistently more compliant with scheduled clinic appointments than those in the experimental group (P = 0.0009, DF = 34; t-test at 95% CI). There was also no significant difference in compliance with visits among patients with different diagnoses (treatment group; P = 0.90, DF = 12, experimental group; P = 0.33, DF = 11).
CONCLUSIONGPE is effective in improving patients' compliance with scheduled clinic appointments after discharge for a period of 9 months. GPE can be used as part of treatment package for all psychiatric diagnoses and it has no age bias.
