Chinese Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism 2012;28(9):715-719
Objective To evaluate the satisfaction and usability of SoloStar(R),a prefilled pen for injecting insulin glargine ( Lantus(R),Sanofi ) in Chinese diabetic patients. Methods This was a 3-month,observational,multicenter,prospective registry study in adult diabetic patients who were ever insulin users or insulin naive. The SoloStar(R) was prescribed at physician's discretion. At baseline, patients were asked to evaluate their previous insulin pen if applicable. After 3-month SoloStar(R) use,the satisfaction and usability in using SoloStar(R) were assessed, and the evaluation from physicians was also collected. Results Total 1052 patients aged 56.5 years (27.6% ≥65years),with mean diabetes duration 7.6 years,54.6% male,94.1% type 2 diabetes,6.5% visual impairment, and 2.4% dexterity impairment, were analyzed.Of these,488 patients (46.4%) had previously used insulin pen. Most patients (95.3%) rated SoloStar(R) assatisfied/very satisfied. Most patients planned to continue using SoloStar(R)(94.7%) and would recommend it to others(86.0% ).Compared with previous insulin pen, most patients felt using SoloStar(R) became easier ( 57.3% ) and more convenient ( 60.7% ).63 physician questionnaires were analyzed, over 70% physicians rated SoloStar(R) features as good/excellent,and 96.8% physicians regarded training on SoloStar(R) as easier and quicker than other pens.Conculsion Most patients were satisfied/very satisfied with SoloStar(R) and most physicians rated SoloStar(R) as good/excellent,suggesting that SoloStar(R) was well accepted by patients and physicians in China.

Objective To investigate the mechanism of endothelial cell damage under insulin resistance state induced by high fat-feeding by observations of the effects of antioxidant N-acetylcysteine(NAC) on the blood glucose, lipids, the histological parameters of aorta, and the expression of intercellular adhesion molecules-1(ICAM-1),monocyte chemoattractant protein-1(MCP-1) and NF-?B/I?B? in aortic intima. Methods Forty-five Wistar male rats aged 5 to 6 weeks were randomly divided into 3 groups:control, high fat-feeding(HF) and HF plus NAC treatment(HF+NAC).Blood glucose, insulin, lipids, body weight, visceral fat content, histological change of aorta and the expression levels of ICAM-1,MCP-1 and NF-?B/I?B? were determined after the rats were fed for 11 weeks. Results(1)The body weight, ratio of visceral fat content over body weight, blood glucose, insulin, triglyceride, total cholesterol,LDL-C,and total FFA were significantly increased in HF group after 11 weeks feeding compared with control or HF+NAC(all P

Chinese Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism 1985;0(02):-
In this study the role of acute administration of naloxone on LH pulse in normal adult men was evaluated. In 4 volunteers, blood samples were drawn at 10-min intervals for 10 hours both before and after administrating naloxone respectively for measurment of LH by RIA. The administration of naloxone resulted in an increase in LH pulse frequency from 5. 50?0. 50 to 8. 25?1. 09 (P

Academic Journal of Second Military Medical University 2000;0(07):-
Oxidative stress is a major contributor to the pathogenesis of diabetes and diabetic complications.Heme oxygenase(HO),an important part of the human defense system, has been recognized to have significant physiological function against oxidative stress.HO can be stimulated by oxidative stress and decompose into carbon monoxide, biliverdin and iron, all with important anti-inflammatory,anti-oxidative stress and anti-apoptosis effects.Overexpression of HO induced by hyperglycemia can protect cells(including islet cells, endothelial cells and monocytes) and tissues from oxidative damage.Increased HO metabolic products not only maintain the physiological function of islet cells, delay diabetes progression, but also regulate vascular, nerve and muscle function,so as to prevent diabetic complications.

Chinese Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism 2008;24(4):410-411
The characteristics of glucose dysbolism in ectopic ACTH syndrome (EAS) were investigated by analysing the clinical data of 117 patients with Cushing syndrome (CS). The patients with CS were divided into 3 groups : EAS group (n = 9) , Cushing's disease (CD) group (n = 67) and adrenocortical adenoma (AA) group (n =41). Retrospective analysis of the data covered the prevalence of secondary diabetes, blood glucose, HbAlc, blood potassium, and blood ACTH and 24 h urinary-free cortisol (UFC) levels. Compared with CD and AA groups, the prevalence of secondary diabetes and blood glucose level were higher in EAS group, while HbAlc level was lower. Blood glucose level in patients with ectopic ACTH syndrome decreased to normal after tumor removal.

Objective To explore the protective mechanism of metformin in the process of cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) injury induced by palmitic acid (PA). Methods HUVECs were cultured in the media of blank,PA,metformin,or PA combined metformin for 24 h,48 h,72 h respectively. Expressions of monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) and intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) were determined by RT-PCR and the expressions of ICAM-1,nuclear factor kappa B p65 (NF-?B p65) and phospho-I?B? was evaluated by Western blotting. Results Significant increase of the expressions of MCP-1 and ICAM-1 was found in PA group compared with in the control group (P

Chinese Archives of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery 2006;0(04):-
OBJECTIVE To investigate the causes of stomal recurrence after laryngectomy and the possibility of surgical management.METHODS The clinical data of 13 cases of stomal recurrence were analyzed retrospectively.RESULTS In 13 cases of stomal recurrence after laryngectomy, the survival period of 9 cases treated surgically was longer than that of 4 cases untreated or palliative treatment.CONCLUSION The overall prognosis of stomal recurrence after laryngectomy is poor.A proper surgical treatment in some cases will prolong the patient's lifetime obviously and improve his quality of life.

Objective:To investigate the role of saturated free fatty acids (SFFAs) in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis by determining the effects of FFAs on diacylglycerol (DAG) synthesis and protein kinase C (PKC) activity in cultured bovine aortic smooth muscle cells. Methods:Bovine aortic smooth muscle cells, cultured in vitro, were treated with 200 ?mol/L SFFAs (including palmitate and stearate) and unsaturated FFAs (including oleate and arachidonate) separately for 24 h. Then the cells were lysed and the lipids were treated with lysis buffer and separation buffer. DAG level and PKC activity were calculated through measuring the radioactivity of 32P-PA by liquid scintillation counting (1 cpm=6.17?108 Bq). Results:Incubation of the cells with saturated FFAs(palmitate or stearate, 200 ?mol/L, for 24 h) induced significant increase in DAG concentrations (927.2 and 1 533.3 pmol/106 cells by palmitate and stearate, respectively) compared with that of the control cells (190 pmol/106 cells,P
