Hyponatremia is the most common electrolyte imbalance.Other than neurological complications,other complications of hyponatremia have not received due attention.Mild,chronic hyponatremia can result in subtle symptoms such as gait disturbance and falls,and increase the risks of osteoporosis and fractures.This paper reviewed the emerging relationship between hyponatremia and bone metabolism,its possible mechanisms and clinical implications.

AIM: To study the expression and change of growth hormone receptors in experimental cirrhotic liver in rats. METHODS: Thioacetamide-induced liver cirrhosis was developed in Sprague-Dawley rats. The expression of growth hormone receptor and its mRNA was investigated by radio-ligand binding assay, revere transcript-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and digital image analysis in liver tissue or hepatocytes taken from normal control or cirrhotic rats with different stages of cirrhosis. RESULTS: Growth hormone-specific singular binding sties, namely growth hormone receptors, were detected in liver tissue or hepatocytes from rat samples with cirrhosis. The binding capacity of growth hormone receptors in rat cirrhotic live tissue was significant lower than that in normal control, and it decreased gradually along with the accumulation of collagen in the process of formation and development of liver cirrhosis. The binding sites of growth hormone receptors in rat cirrhotic liver cells were significantly lower than that in normal control. The expression of growth hormone receptor mRNA in rat cirrhotic liver tissue was also significant lower than that in normal control. CONCLUSIONS: The growth hormone receptor was expressed in cirrhotic livers at a reduced level in isolated hepatocytes or live tissue of cirrhotic rats, and lesser expression of growth hormone receptors was found in later stage of cirrhosis. The suppressed expression of growth hormone receptor was partly due to the reduced expression of its mRNA in cirrhotic liver tissue.

Both molecular weight 6000 and 1000 polyethylene glycol (PEG) have been used to induce thc fusion of hepatoma cell by two methods of centrifugation and stillstand. The results showed that 50% PEG of molecular weight 1000 and centrifugation increase the percentage of fused cells. The procedure of cell fusion has been examined. The cytoplasm has been fused when the cells start fusing in one hour and a half, and the neucleus start fusing in two horus and a half.

Objective To explore the dynamic changes of CD34 + cells and T lymphocyte subsets and best time of harvesting peripheral blood stem cell when G-CSF was used for peripheral blood stem cell mobilization in donors and patients. Methods A total of 12 donors and 16 patients who received chemotherapy for 7 d were injected G-CSF of 300 ?g/d to mobilize peripheral blood stem cells for 5 d and flow cytometry were used to detect the changes of CD34 + cells and T lymphocyte subsets everyday for 5 d. ObjectiveTo study the therapeutic efficacy of lamivudine in preventing the activity of hepatitis B virus in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and hepatitis B virus infection. MethodsFrom March 1999 to March 2000,72patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and hepatitis B virus infection were divided into 2 groups in complete randomization. In group 1,38 patients were treated with lamivudine 100mg/qd during perioperative period. Before and after operation,we detected HBV DNA with assay of quantitative polymerase chain reaction (QPCR). The control group(2) wasn't given anti-hepatitis B virus treatment. ResultsThe results showed that in group 2,the copies of HBV DNA in sera one week,two weeks after operations were significantly higher than those before the operation(P<0.01);in group 1,the copies of HBV DNA in sera one week,two weeks after operations were significantly lower than those before operation(P<0.01),all within the safety threshold;between group 1 and group 2,the indexes of ALT in sera and Child status didn't significantly change before and after operation.The postoperative complications were significantly different two weeks after operation.Conclusion It suggests that surgical interventions may result in promoting the process of HBV replication,the activity of HBV infection should be treated in perioperation, and the replication of HBV can be inhibited by lamivudine safely to the safety threshold within a short time, though lamivudine doesn't improve the liver biochemistry significantly.

【Objective】 To establish a postoperative recovery scale for Chinese people and to make a preliminary assessment for the scale.【Methods】Programmatic decision-making method was used to establish the basic items and structure of the scale.And then 70 postoperative patients were sampled to assess the scale by grading their recovery.【Results】The postoperative recovery scale had a good validity in contents and structure,and a good reliability and responsiveness.【Conclusion】The postoperative recovery scale established preliminarily can be used as the initial scale for evaluating the recovery of postoperative patients treated by traditional Chinese and western medicine.

Objective　To investigate the possible roles of the different subnuclei of hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus （PNV） which may regulate splenic immune function. Methods　4 SD rats received splenic injection of pseudorabies virus（PRV）.96 hours after injection， a block containing hypothalamus was taken and cut into 40 μm sections with cryostat. Immunohistochemical technique and stereology method were used to detect the distributing character of transsynaptic PRV infection neurons in the PVN and the localization relationship between PRV neurons and AVP neurons in the PVN.Results　Transsynaptic PRV infection neurons distributed through out the PVN， but mainly concentrated in the lateral parvocellular （LP） subnucleus of PVN and posterior magnocellular （PM） subnuclei of PVN （occupied 73.49％ of total surface area），a few distributed in the anterior， dorsal and periventricular parvocellular （AP，DP and PP）nuclei of PVN，few scatted in the rest of nuclei of PVN. In the LP and PM some of the PRV neurons distributed among the AVP neurons.Conclusions　Besides the classical neuro-immuno-endocrine modulation， the PVN may regulate the splenic immune function through direct innervation .The AVP neurons in the PM and neurons projecting to the proganglionic neurons in the dorsal medulla and lateral horn of spinal cord in the LP，DP and AP regulate the immune function of spleen through sympathetic and para-sympathetic innovation.

At present, the research regarding repair of spinal cord mainly focuses on tissue engineering. Neural tissue engineering materials provide three-dimensional template for tissue regeneration and also environment for synthesis of extracellular matrix. This paper summarizes the types of nerve transplant materials and the research progress in application for treatment of spinal cord injury, so as to provide theoretical evidence for repair of spinal cord injury. But some problems exist in application of nerve cell scaffold materials for repair of spinal cord injury: poor mechanical properties lead to slow degradation speed, causing difficulties in tissue reconstruction with respect to velocity and in subsequent reconstruction of porous three-dimensional scaffold. In recent years, novel biomaterials with specific repair function have been made by the engineering method through combining the biological molecule with specific signal identification function and available materials, which is an advanced projeot in the current field of biomaterials.

Digitalization is an important method for the objectification and quantification of quality control on Chi-nese herbal medicine. To solve the problem of texture online visualization of Chinese herbal medicine and the estab-lishment of automatic identification method based on the texture, 12 Chinese herbal medicines were selected to cap-ture the images of their transverse sections. A total of 11 features were extracted from images using Gray-level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) method. Through analyzing the influence of distances and angles between pixels on identi-fication results, it was concluded that when the distance was d = 3 and the angle was ? = 0o, the features extracted were suitable for expressing the texture of the transverse sections. The results indicated the feasibility of establishing the automatic identification method on Chinese herbal medicine based on image of transverse section. It will provide new technologies for the objectification and quantification of identification on Chinese herbal medicine.
