PURPOSE: This study conducted to identify the effect of learning organization construction and learning orientation on organizational effectiveness among hospital nurses. Method: Data was collected from convenient sample of 296 nurses who worked for the major hospitals in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do and Gangwoen-do. The self-reported questionnaire was used to assess the general characteristics, the level of the learning organization construction, learning orientation and organizational effectiveness. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression. Result: The mean score of learning organization construction was 3.61(+/-.32), learning orientation got 3.26(+/-.39), and organizational effectiveness obtained 3.38(+/-.42). The learning organization construction affects of organizational effectiveness by 44.18% and learning orientation by 37.43%. CONCLUSION: This finding indicates that learning organization construction and learning orientation affects the nurses' organizational effectiveness in hospital.

OBJECTIVE: It is debatable whether an anterior oblique fracture orientation is really a contraindication to anterior odontoid screw fixation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility of anterior odontoid screw fixation of type II and rostral shallow type III fracture with an anterior oblique fracture orientation. METHODS: The authors evaluated 16 patients with type II and rostral shallow type III odontoid fracture with an anterior oblique fracture orientation. Of these 16 patients, 8 (group 1) were treated by anterior odontoid screw fixation, and 8 (group 2) by a posterior C1-2 arthrodesis. RESULTS: Of the 8 patients in group 1, seven patients achieved solid bone fusion (87.5%), and one experienced screw back-out of the C-2 body two months after anterior screw fixation. All patients treated by posterior C1-C2 fusion in group 2 achieved successful bone fusion. Mean fracture displacements and fracture gaps were not significantly different in two groups. (p=0.075 and 0.782). However, mean fracture orientation angles were 15.3+/-3.2 degrees in group 1, and 28.6+8.1 degrees in group 2 (p=0.002), and mean fragment angulations were 3.2+/-2.1 degrees in group 1, and 14.8+/-6.7 degrees in group 2 (p=0.001). CONCLUSION: Even when the fracture lines of type II and rostral shallow type III fractures are oriented in an anterior oblique direction, anterior odontoid screw fixation can be feasible in carefully selected patients with a relatively small fracture orientation angle and relatively small fragment angulation.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to identify the effects of change commitment and learning orientation on the innovativeness of clinical nurse. METHODS: The participants in this study were 268 nurses, working in hospitals in Seoul, Gyeonggi and Gangwon Provinces, and Daejeon City. Data were collected from June to August, 2012. A structured questionnaire was used for data collect and data was analyzed using the SPSS/WIN program. RESULTS: The most significant predictors of innovativeness were education, normative commitment, continuance commitment and learning commitment. Continuance commitment negatively correlated with innovativeness. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that nurses' commitment to change and learning commitment were strongly linked to innovativeness. Management-level workers in these hospitals should have the skills and strategies to promote commitment to change include developing positive expectations about change positive outcomes.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship among followership, organizational commitment, job satisfaction, turnover intention, and customer orientation in hospital nurses. METHODS: The participants in this study were 210 staff nurses in one university hospital. Data were analyzed using frequency, ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and stepwise multiple regression. RESULTS: Followership had positive correlations with organizational commitment (r=.46, p<.001), job satisfaction (r=.41, p<.001), customer orientation (r=.47, p<.001). Followership had negative correlation with turnover intention (r=-.23, p<.001). The factor of followership influencing organizational commitment was active engagement, and this factor accounted for 23.3% of explanatory power. The factor of followership influencing job satisfaction was active engagement (F=45.00, p<.001), and this factor accounted for 17.8% of explanatory power. The factor of followership influencing turnover intention was active engagement (F=19.69, p<.001), and this factor accounted for 17.0% of explanatory power. The factors of followership influencing customer orientation were active engagement (F=51.38, p=.004) and independent, critical thinking (F=24.55, p=.011), and these factors accounted for 22.1% of explanatory power. CONCLUSION: Findings indicate a need to develop followership to promote organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and customer orientation and to decrease turnover intention in nurses.

This study was conducted to investigate the clinical application of three-dimensional (3D) reconstructed computed tomography (CT) images in detecting and gaining information on esophageal foreign bodies (FBs). Two patients with esophageal FBs were enrolled for analysis. In both cases, 3D reconstructed images were compared with the FB that was removed according to the object shape, size, location, and orientation in the esophagus. The results indicate the usefulness of conversion of CT data to 3D images to help in diagnosis and treatment. Use of 3D images prior to treatment allows for rapid prototyping and surgery simulation.

PURPOSE: Emergency departments (EDs) are complex and dynamic working environments in which crises can easily develop. ED members must be trained to recognize and prevent impending crises or resolve active ones. Patient simulation (PS) is emerging as an effective tool in team training. We investigate the participants' responses to a simulation-based ED Crisis Management Team Training (CMTT) program we developed and applied. METHODS: We developed a pilot 2-hour simulation-based ED-CMTT program and applied to ED members who worked in three different types of EDs. The program was consisted of a lecture for principles of crisis resource management (CRM) and team dynamics, orientation to simulator and simulation environment, PS session with videoassisted debriefing and survey. After finishing the program, participants completed a survey and were solicited comments. RESULTS: Fifty-two trainee participated in more than one of total seven pilot programs. The responses for the program are as follow: enjoyable and satisfied, 4.00+/-0.74; helpful for their teamwork, 3.98+/-0.73; understanding of CRM principles, 4.00+/-0.63; attainment of learning objectives, 3.80+/-0.83; quality of faculty, 3.90+/-0.63; time allocation, 3.40+/-0.70. The responses for PS session are as follow: realism of scenario, 3.98+/-0.63; realism of simulator, 3.10+/-1.05; realism of simulation environment, 3.44+/-0.98; quality of audio-visual system, 3.81+/-0.74. Overall comments were positive and commonest request was to have more experiences in variable scenarios. However, some problems like time shortage and lack of realism were also pointed. CONCLUSION: The participants' reaction show that the simulation-based ED-CMTT program was well accepted by ED members. Creating more variable crisis scenarios and realistic simulation setting will be necessary for improving the program.

Recent years, in the light of the modern scientific knowledge, own opinions of health and illness expand more and more, methods for preventing, treating illness and improved health also become more abundant and various. However, if going deeply to study ideology of ancient people, especially in Philosopher and the ancient Orient medicine, we can see that established a pretty comprehensive opinion of health and ill issues in early stage by the Orient people: coming from its content to establish preventing, treating and developing health methods. Studying opinions of ancient people to health and illness have a great significance into Vietnamese population’s health care work in recent period.

An evaluation of activity model of village health as socialization in 3 communes of Thai Nguyen province has shown that the people’s knowledge of environmental hygiene and reconstruction of hygienic facilities. The mother and children protection and care were improved. The morbidity rate was significantly reduced. The quality of the village health workers was good. The model of the village health was affirmed effectively and practicably.
